Lucas Pov
How perfect is she? Everything didn't go as plan but it was perfect nonetheless. She was perfect. Every little thing she does. Her smiles, her laughter, and every glance she gives me. I wish she knew how much she meant to me. I wish she knew this feeling I have deep down in my chest. I wish she knew about mates and how she was fated to be mine. I at least wondered if she knew how much I desired for her to be mine, completely.
The next day, I showed up at her job and so did that very determined doctor.
"Oh this isn't awkward at all," her coworker with the red hair said. I believe her name was Rachel. The other one was just grinning at Elena.
"Stop," Elena elbowed Rachel. "They might hear you." Of course, I could hear her but the doctor didn't.
"Today is one of our slowest days," the one with the piercings said. Her name was Carmen. Carmen started to play a song on her phone.
"Help me feed the dogs, Elena," Rachel said. Elena moved slowly around the counter. She was nervous to come close to any of us. I hated that. I wish she would just come to me. I knew she wanted to. She looked at me more than she did the doctor. Elena went over to the dog bowls on the back wall and began to fill them with dog food. They all rushed to her.
"Hey, hey, relax," she giggled. One pug tried to take the bag from her. "Behave Benny." Another one wasn't interested in eating and jumped on Elena.
"Oh, you want to dance," Elena grabbed the pug's paws and pretended to dance with him. I wasn't the only one admiring her but I didn't care. She was mine. The doctor stood up and walked to Elena. My eyes never leaving them.
"It was nice seeing you Elena," he said. "I have to get back to the clinic. Hey, I was wondering, do you want to go out with me tomorrow night?" She quickly glanced at me and I just winked at her.
"I have plans but um maybe some other time," she replied. I hate that she said some other time and didn't just tell him she wasn't interested but I wasn't going to let that upset me too much. The doctor finally left and like a moth to a flame she came to me.
"Hey, everything all good?" she asked.
"Yeah, it is now," I laughed. She shook her head and brought me some more coffee. "Sit with me."
"You know I can't," she said softly. Carmen and Rachel both coughed to catch Elena's attention. She turned around and saw both of them nodding at her. I smiled and she looked back at me and said "Fine."
"So, how are you?" I asked.
"I'm good," she laughed. "You saw me just last night."
"I know but I was wondering how your morning was," I told her.
"It was fine," she responded. "How about yours?"
"It could have been better," I replied. "So are we still on for tonight?"
She smiled and said "Yes."
"I won't bother you any longer,"
"You're leaving?" she sounded so worried. It took her by surprise.
"I won't if you tell me not to," I said.
"Um, no, it's okay," for a second it looked like she wanted me to stay. I grabbed her hand and kissed the top of it.
"I'll see you later,"
"Yeah," she smiled.
"Goodbye,"
"Bye,"
Elena Pov
"Bye," I said with a hesitant tone. I don't know why it was so hard to say goodbye. I finished my shift and headed home. Lucas said he would stop by after work. I drove as fast as I could. I wanted to freshen up and change clothes before he showed up. I found my black off-the-shoulder crop top and some light blue jeans. I put my hair up in a messy bun and waited for Lucas to show up. The minute I heard the knock, my heart started to beat faster.
"Hey," I said as soon as I opened the door.
"Hi," he smiled. "You look nice."
"Thank you," I smiled back. "Come in." I walked him over to the couch. He sat beside me.
"So, are we going to play another round Jenga," he joked. He knew he would beat me again. I pursed my lips at him. "I like it when you pucker your lips." I immediately stopped.
"Want some ice cream?"
"Sure," he answered politely. I went over to the kitchen and brought back two bowls of rocky road ice cream.
"So when do I get to meet your grandma?" Lucas asked.
"You want to meet her?" I was surprised. I mean we have only been on two dates and usually, guys don't like meeting family so soon or at all.
"Yeah, why not? She is important to you and I want to know more about you," he said. I told him all about my grandma so I guess he was just curious to meet her.
"Okay," I didn't know if it was a good idea or not but I kind of liked the idea. "How about next week?"
"Perfect," Lucas looked deep into my eyes and for a moment I saw him. I don't know how to explain it but I really saw him. He was kind and perfect. He was sweet and gentle. He put his bowl down on my coffee table and I did the same.
"Elena," I didn't say anything back. "You have no idea how long I have waited for you." I don't know if it was just me but he looked so sad and like he wanted to cry. His eyes were filled with secrets and sorrow. His hand came up to cup my face. His thumb caressed my cheek.
"Elena," his voice was so longing and needy. His lips slowly came closer to me. They gently pecked mine. He moved again and kissed me slowly. He quickened the kiss and made it deeper. I felt his tongue push past my closed lips. Our tongues danced in my mouth. This kiss felt like the missing piece to my entire life. If I heard birds singing right now it wouldn't even surprise me.
How can anything be better than this?
