I steered her towards my car. If I left it up to her, we would have spent the whole day in that elevator. She is really quiet, which I am grateful for. At least I have some time to think before Damien disturbs my peace.
"Finally, I was about to organise a search party," Damien says as he sees us approaching. He doesn't notice Eleanor yet.
"Don't be dramatic, Dame. I wasn't gone for that long."
"A whole forty-five minutes is long in your book," he continues.
Well, he is not wrong. I usually don't waste time taking care of things like this.
"I had to take care of something."
"Something? What do you mean—" He stops talking. His eyes widen as he finally notices Eleanor.
He takes her in for a long moment, at least in my opinion.
"You can close your mouth now, Damien, " I drawled, ushering Eleanor into the back seat. She's still quiet. Like she's here, but not really here.
"What, why, who—" he splutters, trying to figure out what's happening.
"Just get in the car, and I'll explain everything," I say, entering the driver's seat.
When we arrive at my house, I take Eleanor to her room. It's opposite mine, at the other end of the long hall.
It's quite plain, pale white paint decorating the walls. A queen-sized bed, a dresser at the side of the room, a closet beside it, and a bathroom in the far corner.
I wasn't expecting any visitors, so this will have to do. At least until I figure out what to do with her.
She looks around the room with awe. I mean, aside from the fact that it's my house and everything has to be up to par, I don't really see what's so special about this room.
Opening the closet, she runs her fingers over the clothes, studying each piece.
" Whose clothes are these?" she asks, breaking her thirty-minute silence.
" I don't think that's relevant information, darling," I say, standing by the wall with my arms crossed.
" It is, considering I'm going to be wearing it," She responds, mirroring my stance.
"You can go without clothes, for all I care."
Her cheeks redden at the implication that she puts the clothes back. " Is it one of your victims'?" She asks, turning around to face me.
"What makes you think I'd keep my victims' clothes?"
"I don't know, maybe you felt guilty?
"Oh darling, I don't regret who I kill."
"Like your brother?" She asks quietly.
"Lunch is by two o'clock," I say, changing the subject. "Don't bother trying to run. I have cameras and security everywhere."
Turning to leave, her question halts my step.
" What do you want from me?"
Fuck if I know.
I ignore her question and leave to join Damien downstairs who also has a bunch of questions. One of them is obviously why she's here. I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that.
