Chapter 3

Monday morning, Larissa arrived at the office bright and early, a bundle of nerves and excitement. She was shown to her new office, her heart lifting at the spacious room and the potential it held for her career. But her excitement turned to shock as she realized her office was right next to the CEO’s. It kinda made sense because she would be the assistant to the CEO. She wore an olive- green, fitted, midi length dress which featured a square neckline and cap sleeves. The dress had a peplum detail at the waist which added a slight flare before tapering into a pencil skirt and she paired it with black pointed toe heels. The dress had been designed and sown by Sydney, it was stunnimg but for some reason she did not want to start a clothing line. As she set up her things, the CEO’s door opened, and her jaw dropped as Jasper walked out. He looked equally surprised to see her, his eyebrows shooting up as their eyes met. “Larissa?” he said, his voice a mix of surprise and pleasure. “Jasper,” she replied, her heart pounding as she realized he was the CEO. “I, um… I didn’t realize you were…” “The boss?” He smiled a polite smile before stepping into her office and closing the door discreetly behind him. His grin disappeared and he seemed to regain composure, "Larissa i hope we can start on a new page and forget things of the past" he said as he extended out his hand to her. 'things of the past!' she thought to herself, she felt a pang of hurt in her heart before she shook the thoughts way and extended out her hand for him to shake without saying a word. He looked at her for a while still holding her hand before he let go and walked out of his office into the elevator. Larissa decided to do a little exploring with him gone since she didn't really have time for that beforehand, she walked a little around the floor only to realize that there were two offices on the floor, hers and Jasper's. The rest of the space was the mini kitchen, toilets and a huge boardroom. This was going to be harder than she thought, how was she supposed to keep it professional between them if it was going to be just the two of them for the majority of the time? she sighed at the thought of it. Larissa's heels clicked rhythmically against the gleaming marble floor, echoing through the spacious office. The door to Jasper's office was slightly ajar, allowing a sliver of light to escape into the hallway. The room looked untouched, like a museum exhibit waiting for visitors. She stepped closer, curiosity getting the better of her. The scent of leather and faint cologne lingered in the air, a silent testament to his presence. She pushed the door open, revealing a sleek, modern space that screamed of power and authority. A large oak desk, polished to a mirror finish, dominated the room, flanked by bookshelves filled with bound reports and trophies. The walls were adorned with abstract art, a stark contrast to the simplicity of her own office. She stood in the middle of it taking a look around and breathing in his scent. 'that's enough exploring' she thought to herself. As she strolled back to her office, she made a mental note of the things she needed to change. New curtains, a potted plant, maybe even some artwork that didn't look like it was picked by a committee. But the real challenge was the boardroom. It was a cavernous space that could swallow them whole during meetings. She didn't want to feel like she was in a library with Jasper, she wanted it to feel more... alive. Would he even allow her to make some changes to it? she literally just arrived. In her office she logged onto her desktop and tasks started appearing almost immediately, somehow she had so much to do on her first day. Lunch time rolled around and an email popped up on her screen just as she was about to shut it down, "please get me chicken alfredo and some juice. Thank you." It was from Jasper and she knew that even if it seemed like a request it wasn't something she could not do, This was not the same Jasper that was pounding her recklessly on Friday, this was her boss. She headed to the food court and got him his food and got a ham and bacon sandwich with cranberry juice then headed to their floor. She longed to make some friends in the office but she had so much work to do so she did not have time to make friends, maybe she would have caught up with work by the following week. The elevator dinged pulling her out of her thoughts, she stepped out and headed to his office. She knocked once and waited for a response, "come in" his stern voice instructed, she gently twisted the doorknob and let herself inside the office. He didn't even look up at her he just continued doing whatever he was doing on his desktop. She placed his food on the desk and headed to her own office, the air was thick with tension and she hoped that their future encounters would be less awkward. Jasper pretended to be busy when she walked in with his food, she looked amazing in that dress and it took everything in him to not put her on his desk and take her right there, he felt his trousers constrict underneath. This beautiful woman had so much power over him and she didn't even know. She munched on her sandwich as she continued her tasks of the day.By the time she looked up it was already dark outside, she took her phone and sent a text to Sydney, "I'm going to be home late" before she put her phone down it pinged and she received a text from Sydney, "are they overworking you? this better be overtime with pay" Larissa chuckled as she read the message. "i chose to stay here and finish my work no one forced me" she replied with a laughing emoji. "well come home if they are not paying you overtime Lar, you need rest for tomorrow" Larissa thought about it for a while before she decided she was actually tired, "okay I'm coming" she said as she began to save all the work she had done for the day and shut down her desktop. She walked out of her office and realized that Jasper's office was still lit, she thought that he may have gone home and forgotten to switch it off so she headed in the direction of the office, before she entered she heard papers shuffling inside which caused her to stop. She turned on her heels and walked to the elevator going home. Jasper heard the clinking of her heels coming towards his office, he started rearranging his paperwork to seem busy, he had been staring into space waiting for her to leave so that she doesn't feel alone, just as she was about to enter she stopped then he could hear her walk away, he sighed in disappointment before standing up to leave.
