Chapter 1
Chloe
Chloe was thinking of taking a vacation from her work. She has been working for almost two years and has been exhausted to the max. Chloe was 21 when she joined Roosevelt Corporation as a finance executive. Lately she has been stressed out from all the work she has been doing on a new project. Now that the project has been over she has been considering for a while to take a vacation.
Finally, Chloe took a month’s vacation from her work. When she came home she decided to stay home for a while and visit her hometown, city B. It has been so long since she last visited her grandmother as well. So she thought that she would have a week for herself and spend the rest of the vacation staying with her grandmother.
Chloe was taking her first week of vacation to clean her house. She never expected her house to be so unclean. Although she has been cleaning her house once a week, she had not expected her house to be filled with dirt. Therefore, she had to spend more than a week alone cleaning her house.
On the 10th day of her vacation she finally drove to city A, to her grandmother’s house. She was so happy to visit her grandmother. “Oh my dear, it’s been such a long time you last visited your nana.” Chloe’s grandmother only lets someone who is close to call her as nana.
“I’m so sorry nana, I was so busy with work and I couldn’t visit you often. I tried my best to come within a week but I had some work in my house. And it took way longer than I expected, I hope nana would forgive her little angel, right nana? However, I guess its best if we visit mom as well before we spend some time together and enjoy ourselves nana.” Chloe was however, not happy with her own suggestion she made.
“I think it’s a very good idea my dear, but why don’t you have a bath while I heat up your favorite lunch. Then let’s visit your mom refreshed.” Chloe thought it was a good idea as she hadn’t had her breakfast and she was actually hungry by now. Chloe took a quick shower and changed into a tank top and a pair of shorts and came to eat her lunch. They both ate lunch while chatting how they missed each other and loved each other although they aren’t able to see each other for a long time.
“Okay dear I think you should get ready now so that we can visit your parents and come back before it’s too dark. And remember, this time you have to properly greet your father.” The last words were ringing inside Chloe’s head. She did not want to greet her step father or even see him. However, she nodded and headed back to her room to change her dress.
By the time Chloe and her grandmother reached her parents’ house it was almost tea time. She hadn’t expected her step father to be there, and possibly not to see him together with her mom laughing and kissing when they entered the house. Chloe was shocked, however she managed to put on a straight face without anyone noticing her being shocked.
“My baby girl, why didn’t you inform me earlier that you will be coming to visit us. I would’ve prepared dinner. Why don’t you stay the night dear?” Chloe’s mother, Rose greeted her hugging and kissing her cheeks.
“No mom, I guess I should stay with nana for today, we have a lot to discuss and where is my baby sister. I haven’t seen her ever since the last time you visited me with Cathy. How old is she mom?” Chloe asked eagerly as she wanted to see her baby sister. The first time Chloe saw her baby sister was when her mother visited her. Catherine was 3 months old then.
Chloe tried her best to avoid eye contact with her father, Nate and was searching for Cathy around the room. “She is in the nursery, we rebuilt a guest room as the nursery. Your step father was the one who built it.” Turning towards Nate, “Nate, baby could you please show Chloe to the nursery while I prepare tea?”
“Sure dear. It has been so long since I saw you Chloe. So how have you been?” Chloe still didn’t meet his gaze. “I’m good dad. How have you been?” It hurt me so much to call Nate, dad. We went inside the nursery and Cathy was inside the crib.
My little sister is so adorable. She was playing with a toy. Her eyes were magnificent and so beautifully sparkling. I lifted her up from the crib, she is so small and so warm in my hands. She felt fragile. I think I can spend a little more time with my parents after all. I have my reason now.
