Chapter 5

Juniper POV It had been a few days since the surgery to fix my shoulder and it was still hard to move it. I was doing physical therapy at least three times a day to gather strength back in it. The doctor wasn't happy that the healing process was slow but he made sure everything was where it should be. "How are you feeling, Miss Hudson?" The nurse asked as she came in with lunch. The hospital, and the Alpha, thought it was in my best interest to stay here so they can monitor my healing. "I'm ready to leave. I'm hoping today will be the day." I said, smiling at her but her smile was not reassuring. I had been stuck here for three weeks. I was growing tired of the place. Jace, Nichola and Traci all stopped by at least 3 times a week to exchange my homework and tests so I wasn't failing school. They would give me the scoop and juicy gossip as they would visit. The nurse left as my friends came pushing past her, laughing. They came in and settled down as I started eating my lunch. "Do you think they would get into trouble if you finally told the Alpha what happened?" Nichola asked as she handed me my math book. I took it from her and sighed. "No. I won't be saying anything and neither will you three. I don't need repercussions or a repeat of what just happened." I opened my book and looked at the foreign problems. I sighed heavily and looked up at them. "When will you be out? Feels like you're in prison for something you didn't do." Traci said as she grabbed a pop from her bag and handed it to me. "I was hoping today was the day, but it doesn't seem be there. "Come in." I said with a mouth full of food. I almost choked when the Luna stepped in. We all stood up and bowed to her. She paid no attention to the gesture. I guess when you're Luna and it's done all the time, it becomes something irrelevant, or so I would like to think. "Hello. I need to speak with Miss Juniper, please. Alone." She added as she looked at my group of friends. They got up and gathered their belongings and homework before wishing me a good rest of my day and they would see me sometime tomorrow. The Luna stalked about the room a bit, looking over everything. "How can I help you, Luna?" I asked, watching her nervously. "I see you're keeping up on school work. Very good." She said, trying to make some soft of conversation with me. "I graduate in 2 weeks." I looked down at the homework I had spread out on the bed. "I'm hoping I'll be out of here before then." The Luna nodded before clearing her throat. "They will be releasing you soon. The main reason I am here is because you are required to work during our holding of the Mate Ball this year." She folded her hands in front of her, making her appear taller. "The Mate Ball? I thought only the mated omega's help with the ball. I'm not mated yet." I looked at her confused. My birthday was coming up in a week, just in time for the Mate Ball. I should be going out with my friends and enjoying myself. "You have a chosen mate. You are going to be with someone to keep the peace between our packs. My husband and I chose him and he paid a fair price to have you." She said dismissively. "I get no choice in who I am with? That's not fair, Luna! I haven't even met him!" I sat down on the bed and looked at everything there. I was mad. I had been looking forward to finding my mate at the ball. Everyone was. That's what the ball is for. "Look, I'm doing you a favor. He rejected Hannah and then mentioned you. We agreed as long as he would pay you off. We weren't going to give you to him for nothing." She laughed coldly. "It's all said and done. Plain and simple. You will be what keeps the peace between our packs." "And if I refuse?" I looked up at her, tears already forming in my eyes. "It's a signed contract between the two Alphas. Because you're under aged and we are your guardians, you have no say. We did what we feel will be the best for you. You get to be Luna, so be grateful." She crossed her arms over her chest. "You shall want for nothing with this man. So after graduation, you will be leaving with him. After a week of staying with him, you will be marked and married. You will be on your best behavior for as long as you live. You will give him heirs and not be a burden." She went off on what I will and will not do but I started to tune her out. I stared at the wall growing lost in my thoughts. "Are you listening to me?" She stepped in my line of sighed which caught me off guard. I shook my head slightly. "I'm listening, Luna. I don't agree. What if I find my mate at the ball?" I asked. "You will reject him. Second chances can happen and I'm sure he will understand that." She said flatly as she walked up to me. She cupped my chin roughly to make me look at her. "This is a life given to an Alpha's daughter. He rejected Hannah and requested you. What he wants with an omega like you, I will never understand. You will put your pack first before anything else. I will not hear any objections on this matter. In two weeks, you will work as a server at the ball. Once the ball is over with, you will be on clean up duty." I nodded. What else could I do? I was being sold to a man I didn't know and forced to reject my fated if I were to find him. It wasn't right. I started to cry as she let go of me. I could feel my heart break for the loss of the one I would love. "This is the best life you will ever get" She went to the door before looking at me again. "Take it as a blessing." She left, leaving me to be a crying mess on the bed. "Things will work out, just wait an see" I heard the same voice from when I was in the water. I looked up and no one was around. Could it be my wolf trying to push through? One more week and I would meet her. One more week until the ball. Two more weeks until I lose my life.
