Endrei’s POV:
I rushed off to Makayla’s house that very night much to my mother’s protests. I needed to find out why she was being locked in the basement, again might I add, by her parents. I found my way into their house as we lived close enough and I tried really hard not to show my disapproval to her parents who looked to be fidgeting when I came in.
“Hey Greg. Hey Carol, what happened? Why is she locked up?” I asked them as respectfully as I could manage. In a normal pack hierarchy, Greg and Carol could be considered Omegas but this was not such a pack.
“One of the warriors has been sniffing after her whenever he comes on patrol, I do not want my daughter exposed to that. He could command her obedience and defile her.” Carol said to me and she truly looked distraught. Makayla was different from her parents because her actual father was a warrior and he does nothing to acknowledge her existence. So her mother’s fear was legit, but there was a decree from the alpha king and we just had to comply.
After spending a few hours over there I was only successful in convincing her parents to allow her to attend the ball so our pack does not face any repercussions.
So here we are on the day of the ball and I am helping Makayla to prepare. Because she was locked up till this afternoon so nothing was done for her and now I was equally in danger of not attending the ball. My brother already left with the second bus that arrived, but I could not leave Makayla behind because her mother was worse than me when it came to dress up.
“Ouch! Watch my face Enny!” Makayla screamed for the umpteenth time this evening but she was going to have to choose between precision and getting ready on time. News reaching us was that there was going to be only one more bus leaving town and gaining entrance to the pack without a pack was just not a good idea. We could die.
We stepped out of the house just as the bus door closed. Just great.
“Wait! We are still here!” We yelled and ran after the bus. It was really embarrassing and totally annoying because they would not say that they did not hear us when we were calling out to them, they were warrior wolves after all. Then the bus stopped and we stepped on, surprisingly the bus was air conditioned. We both quietly took our seats after muttering a thank you.
As the bus passed our borders, Makayla and I could not help but be glued to the window. None of us have ever gotten this close to the border line. As a matter of fact we do not even think about it.
When the bus finally drove into the driveway our jaws needed to be scrapped off of the floor. The Blaze warrior pack was beautiful, things that we usually saw on the television existed here. Even their roads were special.
As the bus came to a halt the doors opened and Gamma Donald stepped into the bus. There was just something dangerous about him in that moment that had us shrinking into our seats.
“Listen up everyone, this is the last bus to your pack as you already know. More buses would be made available for your departure after the ball. As I said to those before you, just enjoy the ball and try not to piss anybody off. Just as you all I want everyone returned back to their homes and beds tonight. Behave yourselves. Come on then, I need to walk you through the doors.” Gamma Donald said to the half-filled us and we all absentmindedly nodded our heads.
It was kind of a conditioning, nobody dared argue because the threat did not fly over anybody’s head. The instructions are pretty simple, try not die before the night runs out, and most importantly try not to piss anyone off. Because then it would definitely not end with just your death alone.
Without a fuss everyone got off the bus and followed Gamma Donald.
The ball room was gorgeous, everything screamed money, wealth and affluence. I was scared to even come in, the floor looked like my shoes would scratch it but I had to move in especially after the second impatient huff from the guard holding the door open.
Suddenly a hush fell over the room and a round of applause suddenly went up.
Not knowing what was going on I joined my pack members to clap but then there was a shift in the air and instinctively everyone bowed. The aura was just so strong, without raising my head I already had a fair idea of who it was that just made an entrance, it was either one of their ranking officials or all of them.
“Rise.” A single command and we all complied, the life band soon took over.
The members of the warrior pack began ignoring us like the plague, or they were doing that all even and I just did not notice. Now where on earth was the child my mother birthed after me?
Just then I saw him walking in my direction.
“Hey, are you enjoying this?” Andre asked me as he approached me with a glass. I did not know what it was but I took it from him with a grateful smile. After taking a sip I smiled wider, I loved cherry.
“The place is beautiful but it seems like we are not welcome here.” I said to my brother truthfully who nodded his head.
“Yes, but the male warriors are a little more chilled than their ice princesses. I will be back.” Andre said to me and left. I saw there was an open door and nobody seemed to be there. I walked through the door and sighed when I saw it was a balcony.
Since it was a full moon the stars were obscured but there were a few visible, and conveniently there was a telescope on the terrace, time for some exploring.
Soon the hairs on my body stood and there was that change in the air again. This time it was stronger, I somehow knew I was in trouble.
