Chapter 10: Lily POV I was twirling my fork around in my spaghetti telling Phillip about how Daniel met his mate when suddenly my wolf started howling in my head. "Bad. He is bad. Get away." I felt panic wash over my whole body. I wasn't sure what to do but my heart was thumping with pain. I excused myself to the restroom. Phillip tried to follow me. I immediately linked Paul. "Don't leave me alone with him." I heard Phillip huff when I told him to wait for me at the table. The moment I was alone in the bathroom I slid to the floor and began to hyperventilate. My wolf was scratching at my mind trying to break free. The harder I breathed the harder it was to understand what she was trying to tell me. "I'm having a panic attack," I linked to Paul. "Do you want me to come in there?" He asked. "No, I want Alec. Can you please call him for me?" I wasn't sure why but I had this inkling only Alec could make me feel better in this situation. "Yes ma'am. I linked Alpha Daniel as well." Oh god! Too much! This was too much! I started rocking back and forth. My anxiety was calming down after Paul linked me that Alec was on his way to me. He lived on campus so he was very close! Suddenly I heard someone banging on the door my back was pushed against. Phillip's angry voice boomed and echoed. "Lily!" I heard Paul tell Phillip something and then he told me to stay where I was. The door knob started jiggling like someone was trying to get inside. I started shaking when I heard Phillip's angry voice again. "What the f**k is going on, Lily?! Mates don't hide from each other!" Paul told him to back off. "Miss Lily is having a panic attack and needs to recover. I need for you to stand down." Phillip ignored him and kept banging on the door and screaming. I finally emerged from the bathroom. I still felt sick but I didn't want him making more of a scene than he already had. Humans would call the police over something like this. He led me back to our table and I started sniffling. He tried to interrogate me but all I could do was sob. "Something doesn't feel right. I need to go home," I told him. I didn't know what else to say. My wolf was scared of him so I was scared of him. He offered me what looked like a fake smile and told me he could take me home later. I felt my whole body tense up when the front door opened and closed. Daniel and Alec arrived at the same time. My anxiety was creeping up again. I fidgeted with my fingers in my lap. I wanted to be free of Phillip and whatever bad intentions he had. "Good evening," Daniel said, looking like he was trying to stay calm and collected. My saviors looked down at me. "I-I-I don't feel well. Can we please go home?" I asked, stuttering. Daniel linked me to get up very slowly and follow him out of the restaurant. Phillip grabbed my wrist as I tried to get up to leave the table. "Lily, are you sure you don't want to stay? I could drive you home." He tightened his grip on my wrist. He was trying to intimidate me! I felt panic rise in my body once again. "P-p-please let go. I need to go h-h-home," I said, barely above a whisper. "Enough of this," Daniel linked me. He pulled me away from his grip and led me away. Paul was at my rear and Alec wrapped his arm around my shoulders. "It's gonna be okay, Lily," he whispered to me. His voice brought me a lot of comfort. Once outside Daniel blew up at Paul. "What were you thinking?! She should never have been here in the first place!" I begged him to stop yelling at poor Paul. "Phillip said he is my mate. Daddy gave me permission to go out tonight." Daniel stared, shocked. Alec looked confused. Daniel growled angrily. "Father allowed this?!" I'd never seen Daniel behave like this before. It scared me. I ran into Alec's chest and begged him to not leave me alone. He wrapped his arms around me and whispered that he wasn't going anywhere. "Go home. I can handle my sister from here," Daniel told Alec as I clung to him. His chest was so warm. "Please stop, Daniel! I'm scared and you need to go home to Jeanie!" Daniel huffed but relented when he saw I wasn't giving up. Daniel drove me home while Alec followed us back to the pack house. It was getting late. "Your door stays open," Daniel said pointing his finger at me. I nodded as I walked up the stairs to my room. Alec followed me at a slow pace looking at everything. He looked like he wanted to say something like "Your house is amazing" but kept quiet. I led him to my bedroom. My wolf was howling again. "Good. Human is good." I sighed out of relief. I didn't need any more surprises tonight. "What happened at the restaurant?" He finally asked me as we stood alone in my bedroom. I shook, remembering how scared I was. "Did he hurt you?" He asked. I shook my head, "Not exactly. I got a bad feeling and then I had a panic attack. That is why I had Paul call you." He looked at me with concerned eyes. "I'm sorry that happened, Lily." I held back tears as I said, "Would it be totally inappropriate for me to ask you to hold me?" His eyes lit up. He didn't answer. He just enveloped me in a tight hug. "Alec, there is something you need to know about me. There is a chance you won't like it. I will understand if you hate me but I ask you try to be open-minded about it." He stared at me, confusion swirling in his beautiful hazel eyes. "I could never hate you, Lily. To be honest I've been in love with you since the first time I laid eyes on you." I felt my heart race. Alec loved me?! "I think I'm in love with you too," I said. He looked like he might melt after hearing my confession. I was about to start explaining my werewolf lineage when the digital clock on his wristwatch beeped. It was midnight. I felt waves of warmth overtake me. "Mate" slipped from my lips involuntarily. Alec stared at me. "Mate? Why do you keep saying the word mate?" My wolf surfaced but did not block me out. Years of pent up frustration overwhelmed both me and my wolf. We lunged at Alec and kissed him. He happily accepted our kiss. It was innocent at first but then I got the urge to kiss him deeper. I bit his lower lip. He granted me access. Our tongues battled for dominance. I let him win. He looked so sexy. "What did you want to tell me?" He asked, smiling up at me. My body was on top of his on my bed. "I'm a werewolf and you're my soulmate." He chuckled. "Very funny. Seriously. What did you want to tell me?" I stared down at him. "I'm not kidding. My father is Alpha of our pack, which is why we live in this massive pack house and I have a bodyguard." He stared up at me. I could tell he was conflicted about whether he believed me or not. "I'm not lying," I said. He started stuttering. "Y-y-you turn into a wolf?" I nodded. "I would never hurt you, Alec. I love you." He looked scared. "I'm sorry. I should have never brought you into this mess. My life is too messy for a human." I started pulling myself off his body. He grabbed my waist, forcing my frame to freeze where it was. "Are you telling me the truth?" I nodded. "I love you. I didn't want to keep hiding my true self from you. But I also can't change who or what I am. I'm sorry." He looked up at me with sad eyes. "I love you too, Lily, but if this is true it's a lot to take in." I nodded, "I understand. Believe me, I do. I've been trying to wrap my head around it my whole life." He kept staring at me. I couldn't read his expression. I felt tears threatening my eyes as I said, "I wish I could read your mind. I'm so scared you're going to disappear and never come back." He cupped my cheeks. "I won't do that to you. I just need some kind of assurance you're not dangerous. Can you control whatever this part of you is?" I sniffed back my tears. I touched his cheek. I felt the sparks. They were everywhere I touched him. "Most of the time, yes. Sometimes my wolf can act of her own but it isn't what you think. She would never harm you." He took my hand in his. "Why do I keep feeling electricity wherever you touch me?" I smiled, "That is what we call the mate bond. It's meant to bring comfort to our mates. I feel them too when you touch me." He stared up at me. "I felt it the first time your finger grazed mine." I leaned down and inhaled his scent from the crook of his neck. His human scent was so attractive. "Please don't hurt me," he whispered. I felt depression hit me like a slap to the face. My mate didn't want me. I pulled away, out of his grip. "I think I made a mistake. You can leave. Please just don't tell anyone what I told you. There are people out there who hunt my kind. They would love to kill a runt like me." He sat up on the bed, his eyes wide. "You're not a runt!" I stared at him. "In my world a wolf who is short and has medical issues like me is called a runt. Hunters love us because we are easy prey. I am not as fast or as strong as everyone else in my family. I was excited to meet my mate because runts become stronger when they mark and mate but that obviously isn't going to happen. Please leave." Alec stared at me. "What do you mean by mark and mate?" I felt my breath hitch. Why wasn't he running away? Why was he asking me questions? "Marking is where you lightly bite your mate's neck, marking them so everyone else knows you're taken. Mating is well...making love..." Silence filled the room. "You want to bite my neck and have s*x with me?" He asked, flabbergasted. "It doesn't matter what I want Alec. You're obviously freaked out about what I am. I'm giving you the option to leave. Just, whatever you do don't speak the rejection words. You'd kill me. My heart wouldn't be able to handle it. Please just go and live your life. You don't have to stick around and be afraid of me." Tears came to his eyes. "Reject you? Kill you? What?!" I sighed, frustrated. "Mates can reject one another but someone like me who isn't strong would probably die of heartbreak. It is a real thing in my world. That is not an exaggeration. Telling me you reject me is the same as stabbing me with a knife or feeding me wolfsbane. You have the power to end my life with a few simple words." "And what if I didn't want to hurt you? What if I wanted to be with you?" His words caught me off  guard. I stared surprised. "I'd be the happiest girl in the whole world. I would do anything to make you happy. I'd love you for eternity and then some." His eyes looked at me at that moment with so much love. "Will marking hurt?" I felt my eyes bulge. What was he saying? I shook my head. "My teeth are the equivalent of baby wolf teeth. It would not hurt for more than a second. Why?" Alec gestured for me to come to him. I hesitated. What was he doing? Was he doing to reject me? Kill me? I slowly stepped closer to the bed. Alec reached out and pulled my body to him. He sniffed my hair and said, "If mates are soulmates and I'd get to be with you forever I'm willing to risk the danger." I couldn't speak. I was too flustered. "Please mark me, Lily. I want to make you happy and if it makes you feel stronger and healthier I definitely want that." Tears welled up in my eyes. Was he serious? "Are you sure, Alec? Once I mark you there is no going back. There is no more regular human life. You'd have to be around my family and live your life with me. You'd have to mate with a werewolf. Do you understand that?" He nodded, "Yes. I was scared and caught off guard. But I also know I love you too much. I don't ever want to let you go or have anyone else touch you. I want to be your one and only." My heart fluttered and butterflies filled my stomach. "I love you," I said, hugging him. "Do it," he said again with more confidence. I bent into the crook of his neck and carefully bit into his flesh. He flinched for a second but then he shook with excitement. I could smell his arousal now. He moaned. I extracted my teeth and lapped the mark with my tongue. He grinned and called me "mate" before passing out on my bed. I was filled with an unusual amount of warmth and felt myself grow sluggish as well. I curled up into his warm chest and closed my eyes. I felt very lucky as I breathed his scent in and fell into a sweet slumber.
