CHAPTER 4

~MAYA'S POV~

The moment I walked into the classroom, the atmosphere seemed to change; everyone's conversation stopped.

A few students glanced at me and quickly looked away as I walked back to my seat. I could hear the whispers following me.

I quickly walked back to my seat and brought out my notebook, pretending to focus.

A few minutes later, Sophie walked up to me, looking nervous.

"Maya", she said, taking the seat in front of me.

"What's wrong?" I asked her. "Why is everyone looking at me?" I whispered as I scanned through the class.

"You are now the talk of the school"

I'm new here. How did I suddenly become the talk of the school?

"You are literally the first person to stand up against Adrian", she said.

"Sophie, I didn't do anything wrong. I just

...."

"Maya, you did something wrong. You are new here, for goodness sake," she said.

"I was just trying to..."

"I hope you won't get into trouble; Adrian is not someone you can stand in the way of"

I sighed.

"Why is everyone acting like he is some kind of king"

"Cause that's exactly who he is"

The room went silent. I looked towards the door and saw Adrian.

I felt nervous seeing him. He walked to his seat beside me and sat down.

"See you later", Sophie said and walked back to her seat.

For a moment, neither of us spoke.

I was about to say something, but the word died in my throat; I couldn't start another drama.

Mrs. Foster walked to the classroom and dropped her book on the desk.

"I'll be giving you an assignment today, and it should be submitted by the end of the week." She said. "The assignment will be completed in pairs, so choose your partner wisely.

The students chattered excitedly, already discussing their partner.

"I'll be collecting your names by the end of the day. Good luck." She said and left the class.

"Sophie", I called "Do you mind being partners with me?" I asked.

"I'm sorry, I already have a partner", she said and gave me an apologetic smile

I scanned through the class and noticed everyone already had a partner.

Just then, Vennessa stood from her seat and confidently walked towards Adrian

"Adrian", she said, smiling. "Do you want to be partners for the assignment?"

"I already have one", Adrian said, looking up.

Vennessa's smile froze.

"Oh, Who?"

"She," he said, pointing at me.

"Me?" I said, looking surprised.

"Yes, you", he said, looking at me.

Oh no, is he trying to get back at me after what happened this morning?

Vennessa gave me a sharp glare and walked away.

Only if looks could kill, I would have been dead by now.

"When did we agree on that?" I asked Adrian.

" We didn't." He said.

"Then why did you choose me?"

"Cause neither of us has a partner"

Unfortunately, he was right. This was going to be the biggest disaster of my life.

I sighed.

"Meet me at the library during Lunch break" Adrian said standing up.

"Why?" I asked.

He didn't say anything and left the class.
