Chapter 4: The Walk by the Lake

546 Words
The afternoon sun was slowly fading as Amara and Daniel stepped out of the library. The cool evening breeze moved gently through the trees, and the campus had begun to grow quieter as many students returned to their dormitories. Amara adjusted the strap of her bag on her shoulder while Daniel walked beside her. For a moment, neither of them spoke. But the silence between them felt calm rather than awkward. “So,” Daniel said after a while, “are you heading back to your dorm?” Amara nodded. “Yes… but I’m not really in a hurry.” Daniel smiled slightly. “There’s a place nearby that I like to go when I need to relax,” he said. “It’s not far from here.” Amara looked at him with curiosity. “Where?” “The lake behind the campus,” he replied. “It’s quiet there, especially in the evening.” Amara had heard about the lake but had never visited it before. After a moment of thinking, she nodded. “Okay.” They walked along a small path behind the campus buildings. The sky had turned a soft orange color as the sun began to set. After a few minutes, the trees opened up to reveal a beautiful lake. The water was calm and reflected the colors of the evening sky. A few wooden benches stood along the shore, and the sound of birds returning to their nests could be heard in the distance. Amara stopped walking and looked around in surprise. “It’s beautiful,” she said quietly. Daniel smiled. “I come here whenever I need to think,” he explained. They walked closer to the water and sat on one of the benches. For a while, they simply watched the lake in silence. The peaceful moment made Amara feel relaxed. “I can see why you like this place,” she said. Daniel nodded. “It helps clear my mind.” After a moment, Amara turned slightly toward him. “So… why did you choose architecture?” she asked. Daniel thought for a second before answering. “When I was younger, my father used to take me to different cities,” he said. “I was always fascinated by the buildings and how they were designed.” He looked out across the lake as he continued speaking. “I wanted to create something that would last for a long time… something people could look at and feel inspired.” Amara listened carefully. “That’s a beautiful dream,” she said softly. Daniel looked at her. “What about you?” he asked. “Why literature?” Amara smiled a little. “I like stories,” she replied. “Stories help people understand emotions and experiences. They connect people even if they’ve never met.” Daniel nodded thoughtfully. “That’s true.” The sky slowly grew darker as the stars began to appear. For a moment, their eyes met, and neither of them looked away immediately. Something warm and unfamiliar filled the quiet space between them. Neither of them said it out loud, but both of them felt it. Their friendship was slowly becoming something deeper. And the quiet lake had just witnessed the beginning of something special. 🌅💕📖
