My body was extremely tensed up, my hands were balled into fists. I walked slowly because I really didn't want to go where I was going. But with Sarah next to me, I knew there was no avoiding it, no avoiding my home.
I unlocked the door and Ellara was in the kitchen, trying to make a sandwich. Her movements were ridged, forced, like every movement brought her pain. “Ellara what are you doing?!” I asked as I saw her small intestine strung out across the floor from the living room to the kitchen.
Sarah just stared, horrified at the site of ellara. But when she saw me trying to help Ellara to the couch she hesitantly started helping me.
Ellara answered weakly, “you were willing to hide me from-” I stopped her by putting my finger over her mouth.
“Shhh- it's ok. I brought someone who might be able to help. Just rest.”
Ellara closed her eyes and didn't say anything more until I could hear the heavy, rhythmic, sounds of her breathing as she drifted off to sleep.
“Is- is that what you need help with?”
“She showed up here yesterday and I actually lied to the police. She's hurt, bad, and people only want to make things worse for her. Can you help me fix her?”
“Yeah, I think so. Help me gather up, well her.” And immediately we started trying to gather up Ellara's small intestine, extremely careful not to tear it open.
After about an hour of us performing extreme surgery and robotic engineering, me and Sarah sat on the ground in a puddle of bodily fluid, knowing we'd need to take a shower. “We've done everything we can for now.” Sarah finally turned to me, “Jen, what the hell?!”
“Sarah-”
“Don't Sarah me. We've known each other for ten fricken years and you were like the biggest rule follower I knew! Now you’re saving robot princesses and lying to the fricken police?! What the hell happened?!”
“You inspired me to change.” I finally admitted, “and Ellara gave me the opportunity."
Without thinking I pulled off my mask, pulled off Sarah's mask, and started making out with her on the ground. She didn't pull away, in fact she embraced every intense moment of it.
