One
It has been six months since I left the Pack to attend to my husband's sick grandfather, the Alpha wanted me to attend to him, and when he was recovering.
I had just returned to the pack because tonight was our seventh marriage anniversary.
I wanted a quiet family time with my twin and my husband Ethan. I wanted us to have dinner together, it has been my deepest wish.
“Luna, you’re home.” My maid in charge of taking care of my kids bowed before me while she took my luggage.
“Where is the Alpha?”
“He’s out for business.”
I bit back a reply, has he forgotten, he didn’t come to pick me up, he didn’t send flowers or even a text. He forgot about it last year, and he promised he would let that happen again.
But this year, too?
“When will he be back?”
“He didn’t say.”
I nodded. “Where are the kids?”
“Playing in their rooms.”
She took my luggage to my room, and I walked briskly to meet with the kids, I haven’t seen them in months.
I got them some presents which I hope they would like. The door of their bedroom was partly opened. I could hear Toni’s voice, my six years old son, and my daughter Tani.
I held the door open with a smile and about to open. “…when is Dad coming? I miss Symphony, when is she going to come?”
“Daddy said we are going to see her tonight,” Toni replied, I could tell he was smiling with the sound of his voice.
Symphony?
Does she mean the Alpha’s secretary?
I cleared my throat. “Hey, babies.” I opened the door, with a bright smile.
“Mommy?” Toni asked with his nose scrunched. That wasn’t the reaction I expected from him.
Tani stood up from the bed while I stretched my arms towards them hoping for a hug.
Reluctantly, they moved towards and hugged me briefly.
“You’re back?” Tani asked, and I nodded as she stepped aside, I noticed that she was drawing something in a book.
“I bought you something,” I said and patted Toni’s hair, I brought out the box from my side and gave it to him, and the other to Tani.
I watched them open it. “What do you think?” I said trying to ease up the tense moment.
Tani rolled her eyes. “You don’t know what I like.” I watched her dumb the doll on the bed.
“Maybe you should ask Symphony, she does.” She went back to her bed and started drawing on it.
“Mommy doesn’t like Symphony,” Toni grumbled quietly and moved close to Tani.
“She doesn’t like anyone,” Tani whispered back.
I stood there in disbelief.
“She only cares about her business more than we…”
“Tani!” I didn’t know when I raised my voice at her and at that moment she burst into tears.
“I didn’t mean…” I tried to soothe her but she pushed me away and didn’t want me to come close. The maid came in, and took her in her arms, before she calmed.
I came out of their room and made my way to mine. I sat on the bed with my hands folded.
I took my handbag and pulled out my phone from it. I put a call through to Ethan twice, but he didn’t take my calls.
I decided to send a text.
*Tonight is our anniversary, have you forgotten?*
There wasn’t a response to the text.
I sent another.
*When are you coming home?*
Still, I got nothing in response from him. I lay on the bed, waiting for a call or a response text from him, and when it beeped with a message, it came from Ethan.
*Do you have any plans tonight?*
*Are you not coming home?*
*I’ll meet you after work, what do you want?*
*I want to have dinner with the kids, it’s our marriage anniversary.*
*I’ll make the reservation at 8pm.*
There was nothing else from him, he didn’t even wish me a happy anniversary, but at least he was going to make a reservation, I should be okay with that.
I glanced at the time, I have two hours to get ready for it.
A message from Ethan came, he had made the reservation at Backon’s Hotel.
I smiled softly, there might be a surprise at the hotel. Then I would have to fix whatever was wrong with the kids.
I started getting dressed, I had extra care because I hadn’t seen him in six months, and it was time for Ethan to acknowledge me because I have worked hard enough, and he could finally see me, and the love that I have for him. I tried to straighten my curly hair but it was quite furtive, I put on my glasses and some lipgloss. I couldn’t wear heels so I went with a flat shoes.
“Where are the kids…”
“They are in the car, waiting for you.” The maid, Cassandra muttered and lowered her head. I made my way down to the car.
The door was open for me and I got in.
Tani still had her drawing book with her, and now she was painting.
I leaned closer on the car seat, “Can I see what you’re drawing?” I asked with a warm smile.
She lifted the book from her lap and showed me the drawing book.
“Who is the woman beside your dad, is that me?”
She didn’t look like me, I didn’t have short hair, and I’m not blonde.
“That’s Symphony, that’s me and Toni.” She smiled, showing off her broken front teeth.
The smile faded off my face, and she closed the drawing on her lap.
“We are here, Luna.” The driver announced, and I stepped out of the car.
“Do you know it’s our anniversary today?”
“Really?” Toni asked. “Daddy didn’t mention it, he said we are meeting with Sym.”
The car door was opened before I could speak, and I needed time to process what he had just said. They came out of the car, and followed the guard to the entrance of the restaurant, which was also a hotel.
“I’ll take them to the reservation table,” I said, and led them to the table. We had to take the elevator to get there.
I stare at the text on my phone that states the hotel room.
I stared at the kids. “Stay here for a minute, I’ll be back. Your daddy will be meeting us here, can you do that?”
“Yes mommy.” They replied and I smiled, and walked out of the table. The hotel room was in another direction, adjacent to the place that we were.
“Luna.” The receptionist greeted me.
“I want to see the Alpha, he is here isn’t he?”
She looked flustered and glanced at the lady beside her.
“The Alpha…” Her voice trailed off.
“I want to see him.”
“But.”
I headed towards the hotel rooms, glancing through the numbers on the door, until I got to the one in the middle, which had the number sent to me.
This was the room.
I wonder what I should expect, flowers? Some bottles of my favorite wine.
I was a bit anxious when I opened the door.
The air in the room reeked of s****l pheromone and that was what hit my nose. I saw his bare back, the duvet covering the rest of him, roughly riding the woman that lay beneath him. Her hands over his back, moaning his name.
I gasped, my hand dropped from shock.
When she turned I caught a glimpse of her, it was that same woman, Symphony.
With no words, I turned and slammed the door shut.
