I go to the store where Grandpa is lubricating the mower. I want to talk to him about the situation, and see how we can get help. Riri left a few minutes ago.
"Can I talk to you?" I ask, not sure about how to start.
"Yes. Sure. What is it about?" He inquire, looking up at me.
"Is Uncle Joe aware of the situation?" I don't want to say what the situation is out loud in case it embarrasses him further.
"What situation?" He asks.
Is he going to pretend not to know?
I'm trying to help here.
"The situation with that Alpha guy, the one that made him come here today." I explain.
"No. I've not had the time to tell him. And it is not just my situation, it is all ours." He tells me.
Oh no!
How is it our situation?
I was even here when he borrowed money or whatever it is he took from the Alpha.
"You should tell him, he might have a solution, and if he doesn't have one then we can call mom." I input.
"You don't have to bother Grace. And I'm not sure if you understand what the situation actually is. I would explain it to you if I could, but I'm not certain of how you will take it." He says, looking defeated.
Now I pity him.
"You don't have to explain to me, grandpa. We are family after all. I'm ready to help." I assure him.
"If only you knew what is required of you,". He says after a pause.
Nothing is required of me as long S I'm concerned. We will pay him his money, and he'll get off our backs.
And that is on period.
No one messes with my family.
"Go inside dear. Everyone will fall in place when the time is right." He dismisses me.
Well, I tried.
No matter what the outcome is, I would not be sold to a Mafia ring. I know my rights.
I go back inside, and see Grandma preparing dinner. I go to help her, and when she sees me she smiles fondly at me.
"You have grown into a very beautiful woman." She smiles at me, almost in tears.
Why is she so emotional?
I hug her to comfort her. I don't know what to say to her.
"You are going to be a great woman. The first of her kind. Your na will be written in history books, my beautiful baby .
What is wrong with her?
I don't like it when people get like this because I don't know how well to deal with emotions.
"Set the table for dinner," she adds.
I immediately get to business to avoid any more emotional talk.
Riri's POV.
It was a lonely evening on one of the days I returned early from training in the pack house. I ran past grandpa James' house and grandma Josephine called me back.
"I have news" she says.
I like the woman. We would have been best friends if we grew up together. I was best friends with her grandchild though, fate separated us.
"Reyna would be coming back in 2 days." She informed me, smiling widely, and waiting for my reaction.
Holy pearls!
"Are you serious?" I ask, to be sure she is not playing with my emotions even though I don't see why she would want to do that.
"Yes. Grace just called to inform me a few hours ago, and I couldn't wait to tell you." By the time she finished that sentence, I jumped up and down giggling.
Reyna is her grandchild who was my best friend and will still be once she comes back. Unless she doesn't want to, in that case I would be helpless.
"Could you come over tomorrow and help me with redecorating her room?" She asks politely.
"Of course. I would love to." I say truthfully.
"It's settled then. Drop by when you have time tomorrow." She informs me.
"I will. Good night, grandma Jossy." I wave, making my way home.
I love to decorate. I am a girly girl, which is hard to believe considering the fact that I'm a warrior. My father is the general in charge of pack security, which explains why our house is on the boundary of the wolf territory.
I am training to take over my father's duties when he retires. His pals are all retired and their sons have taken over. My father had me later than the rest of his team, and to top it up, I'm a female wolf. It is very unlikely for a female wolf to take charge of pack security, but my father wouldn't let anyone limit his daughter. He said I would do it like no man has ever done before.
Since our house is on the territory boundary, we keep an eye on any activity going on around, and look out for potential threats.
My mother got pregnant with me at the same time Grace, Reyna's mom, got pregnant with her. I was delivered 3 months before Reyna was, because a baby wolf only spends 5 months in the womb compared to the human baby that completes 9 months in the womb.
When Reyna was born, we immediately clicked and became friends. 3 years after our birth, Reyna's mom decided to relocate to a country som seas away.
That decision affected me to the extent of getting sick, which is rare for a wolf. I experienced extreme withdrawal symptoms close to the pain of the mate rejection. This is because I had bonded with her from birth and, since the emotions of a wolf are extreme, it felt like they ripped out a part of me away.
Apparently, Grace asked to keep us in contact, but my parents declined. They didn't want to ever see me like that again. I was just 3 years old, but the brain of a wolf develops faster, so it was given I would remember her in detail, but she wouldn't. I didn't mind though, all that mattered was her coming back.
And as promised, Reyna did come back. It wasn't really exciting to have to introduce myself all over because she doesn't remember me, but I remember her. The main challenge is, since she didn't grow up here and, as a result, does not know anything about werewolf existence, but every other member of her family does.
A few humans in alliance with the werewolf know about our existence, but other than that, we are a myth only to be read about in their fictional books. Those books c***k me up. That is why I love reading them.
Forte Woods high School is a school that was built by Alpha Forte the second. The school is a mixture of humans and werewolves. A few werewolves of trusted status are sent out to learn everything the humans teach and learn how to coexist with humans without exposing our secrets or creating conflicts. There's a school back in the heart of the territory where the pups are schooled.
The wolf territory is populated and hidden behind the forest that separates it from the human territory. The council had the government declare the forest extremely dangerous to keep off wandering humans. It has worked well so far.
Reyna's oblivion of the wolf existence has been a problem for me since she came back. She picks up on a few wolf slangs that confuses her, and labels them as weird. I can't change the way I talk about it because there's no other way to do it.
It kills me that I have to lie to her and keep her in the dark, but it is not in my power to tell her as she is still considered a stranger that might expose us till the Alpha deems otherwise.
Grandpa James is one of the few humans, apart from their government officials, who know about our existence and can enter our territory, and so his family is considered family too. He was a good friend of Alpha Forte the 5th and that is how his alliance with the werewolf race was formed.
Alpha Chris is so strict about the rules that it makes me worry if he will accept her as part of the pack. The way I look at it, Rey is tight-lipped.
Alpha's strictness is well valid. We almost lost the whole pack 3 years ago when some rogues sought the help of human wolf hunters to take over our pack. Alpha Chris had just become Alpha, and it was not easy for him. He fought for us with everything in him and defeated the enemy and that is why our people adore him.
For the past 2 years, Alpha Chris has become more frustrated about the fact that he has not found his mate yet.
An average werewolf finds its mate at 17 years. That is also when they get their wolf. The inner wolf and most abilities of werewolves are dormant till they are mature enough to handle it.
The wolf is wild in nature, and sometimes acts out of instincts. So, it needs a person to attain a particular level of maturity before they can handle it.
To the werewolf, a soulmate is its essence. When a wolf is mated to another, it is for a lifetime, and separation from one's mate triggers physical pain. One can reject a mate, which is a very rare situation. When rejected, a werewolf can run mad, or go into depression apart from the physical pain. Only the strongest can survive a mate's rejection.
Five months back, Alpha Chris defeated the biggest rogue pack and also won the contest to become the next grand Alpha. He is supposed to be in total charge of the whole werewolf race, but one thing is missing; his Luna.
An Alpha is the head of the pack, and a Luna is the next. Regarding the throne, an Alpha cannot ascend without a Luna. A Luna is in charge of taking all decisions for the welfare of the pack.
That is why Alpha Chris is almost running ballistic looking for his mate. The council has threatened to hold another contest for the position of the Alpha and make another Alpha the grand Alpha.
He has been given the opportunity to appoint a suitable female werewolf who will lead beside him and marry. But he refuses because he believes the moon goddess has kept his mate somewhere for him.
Alpha Chris has traveled far and near and far for his Luna to no avail. He is beginning to lose hope and believes that the moon goddess is really punishing him by not giving him a mate of his own.
