Chapter 9

742 Words
Noah’s POV We slammed open the double doors. The Alpha ceremony had just concluded, and everyone was in a frenzy of excitement, cheering and jumping up and down for the new Alpha and Luna. The room was filled with a multitude of scents, but one scent stood out and overwhelmed them all. “She’s here!” my wolf growled. We looked up at the alter, and on the right-hand side, we saw a girl. She had long red hair, high cheekbones, piercing emerald eyes, and the body of a goddess. She was smiling ear to ear at Alpha Kaden. “That better not be his wife!” my wolf growled menacingly. We stepped forward, our wolves growling, “Mate! Mate! Mate!” Finally, we found her. Her gaze shifted and met the eyes of a familiar man, Beta Ben. He grabbed her by the waist and swung her around like she was his property, and she allowed it. My wolf growled angrily, clawing at my surface for control. Nathan was right beside me, also looking at the entire situation. She looked at him with so much love and adoration, those eyes should only be for me! I stalked forward, ready to shift, but Nathan held me back. He flashed his wolf eyes at me and snarled, “She cares for the boy. If you kill him, we’ll lose our mate for sure. Keep your wolf in check!” My wolf was nearly uncontrollable with rage. I watched him take the lead while I controlled my wolf. He clapped his hands loudly, loud enough to silence the room and the pack, as they felt our presence. The Alpha stared in disbelief, whispering something to the Beta. Our father grinned, seeing us. “Boys, welcome to Stone - Brooke,” he boomed. The Beta tucked my mate beside him, making my wolf even more angry. “He doesn’t need to protect what’s mine!” he said, clawing at my mind. We made pleasantries, congratulating the Alpha and Luna respectfully, while our mate stayed under the Beta’s arm. “I’ll kill him right now,” Nathan linked. When the girl was finally pulled from beside him by Kaden, we learned that our mate, the girl we’ve been searching for, is none other than Kaden’s little sister, Evelyn. Flashbacks of when she was just a little girl flooded my mind. It had been a few years since we last saw her, and we were both freshly 18 or 19. I remember thinking she was a cute kid, but nothing more. She was just a pup. When her mother passed away, Nathan and I were the ones who picked her up to protect her from seeing her mother in that state. I remember feeling a strange pull when I saw her crying for her mom, but I chalked it up to her being a child who had just witnessed the passing of her mother. That’s enough to make any Alpha feel something, right? She fought me when I tried to carry her. She didn’t care that we were royalty, she wanted her mother. And now, recalling it correctly, we handed her over to Beta Ben that night. He took her upstairs and came down saying he had managed to calm her down and put her to sleep. “Bastard,” I muttered under my breath. He’s been in her life since the beginning, and this isn’t good at all. She looks at him like he’s the only man in the world. We introduced ourselves, and it was as if she hadn’t been affected by the mate bond at all. We shook hands, and her hands were dainty and soft. When I touched hers, sparks erupted from her touch, but did she not feel anything? The same thing happened to Nathan. I could feel it. “Why doesn’t she recognize us at all?” he asked. “I don’t know, but we’ll figure it out,” he assured me. They walked hand in hand, and the action made me want to kill that bastard. This was definitely punishment from the moon goddess. Had we waited, had we not been with so many women in all these years, maybe our mate would at least look at us with some potential. “I TOLD YOU!!!” My wolf whimpered angrily. His mate was literally in the arms of another, and we couldn’t do anything about it. Not yet, at least…
