The beginning
Looking back on it now she still questions if she has made the right choice, she followed the path she thought was the right one but now she didn’t know if she felt the same way anymore.
It was and still is a twisted path she is walking, she has agreed to things she never thought she would, and she has been kind and open-minded to things she never thought she would even have the opportunity to have an opinion on.
She has been given an opportunity of freedom but it does have rules, it has his rules.
Selene Master was her undoing, a fire she couldn’t help herself from playing with.
Chanterelle had done her best to resist him but if she was being honest she was completely obsessed with him. He was and still is her boss’s son and the playboy of the office or so that was his reputation when she met him.
But that’s not what she saw when she met him for the first time, no she saw the lost man, one who puts up the front that everything is okay but he was far from okay, he was barely holding it together.
His demons were eating away at him and she could tell all this by just one look, she was positive he had picked up on this thinking he had let a wall down, so he turned up his charm to distract her from what she had just sensed within him.
That would become their theme, he tried to hide his demons from her and she pretended as if she couldn’t see them.
For a while that’s all it ever was, small interactions and questionable flirting, Chanterelle always felt like it was one-sided, her side.
Not that she wasn’t a beautiful woman, of course she was but she lacked a sense of self-confidence.
Chanterelle was a tiny woman in height and weight, she was about 4ft 11in and weighed about 120 pounds, she had long light brown hair with natural highlights. Something her grandfather used to tell her was unique about her that lots of women paid good money for, yet she had it naturally.
As an adult, some of those highlights have turned white but at this stage in her life, she was trying to feel more like her old self so she had let her hair grow natural.
This was one of the first things Selene had picked up about her, she was beautiful but didn’t see her beauty the way she should.
What she lacked in her confidence in her looks, he did not.
Selene was gifted with beauty and confidence he was about average in height about 5ft 8in but what he lacked in height he made up with his body. He took pride in how he looked especially since he was now in his 40s, his body had been changing lately but his body was still well-cut holding definition within the muscle from his arms to his stomach.
What Selene was lacking was inner confidence, the demons that plagued his soul created a shell of a man, and hate-filled his heart.
It’s not that he lacked humility but he limited who he let have access to it, he trusted few people and he didn’t just give his trust willingly, your actions earned the amount of humility you would receive.
He wasn’t without flaws, he had let a few slip by and given access to those who didn’t deserve it, it’s the times he had let his mind and the demons blur the lines.
It’s why he had kept his distance from her to begin with, why he wouldn’t let himself cross that line with her, why he limited their interactions. He would destroy her, she couldn’t withstand the monster that lived within him, no one could.
That was the beginning of their story and the dark path and multiple betrayals that had left her questioning everything.
Chanterelle stood looking at herself in the mirror, remembering the day he had finally given in to her, the excitement and fear she felt, how badly she wanted it all but knowing how dangerous it was.
She always knew if he ever gave in to her, the journey wouldn’t be that of those romance novels, no it would be filled with dark challenges, being willing to know you're going to feel deeper in your feelings and not having it returned, it was willing to be at his call whenever he felt he wanted attention from her.
Chanterelle had taken the opportunity one day while in the midst of one of their conversations to give Selene her number, she had casually tried to invite him to the bar after work with a few coworkers but he had said no, so she took the chance and gave him her number in case he changed his mind.
Thinking nothing of it, that he probably just thought away her number did she think she be looking at a text message from him about 30 minutes later,
That one text changed everything between them, opening the text it said:
“Hey this is Selene and my number, please don’t tell anyone I gave you my number, but I wanted to talk to you about something would you be free for lunch?”
