Daniel just stood in the middle of the room, his eyes wide and unreadable.
The night light caught the gold flecks in them.
He looked beautiful… breathtaking.
Wanted to say something to ease up the silence but my throat felt too tight, like it would tear apart if I tried to speak.
We just stood in silence, then he walked to the table to drop the envelope.

“I know what that is, Jake.” He snapped, and I think he immediately regretted it.
How could he be so mad when he hadn’t even opened it yet?
