Chapter Ten

Third Person's POV

It has been three days since Eolly started her job at Knox Corp.. She has gotten the hang of it now. Mr. Lewis is very efficient too and they divided their work. Things that needed to settle outside were reserved for Mr. Lewis and those inside were with Eolly. Besides Eolly and Mr. Lewis, there are three other secretaries. Because Knox Corp. was a very large conglomerate, Mr. Knox needed a lot of people to help him.

Later, Mr. Knox will interview a new applicant that will be assigned as his fourth and fifth secretary. It is said that one of the applicants was a daughter of one of the board of directors. Eolly was hoping that she would not be difficult to deal with.

Eolly was in the pantry making her and Mr. Lewis's tea when one of the secretaries approached her.

"Tell me how many times?" The secretary, whose name was Lily, said to her,

"Excuse me?"

"How many times did you sleep with Mr. Knox that he broke his rule of no hiring under the table?"

Eolly raises her left eyebrow because of what she heard. She immediately got what she meant, but instead of denying it, she lit it up. "Oh that.... not so many times yet dear. We have just started our affair, so you should expect more in the future. Maybe because I was a virgin, that is why Mr. Knox values me more. After all, he was the first man in my life." Eolly said, smirking.

Lily's face turned red out of anger. She didn't know that Eolly would talk back to her. She was about to slap her when, "What is going on here?" It was Mr. Lewis who heard everything.

"Is this what you do during working hours, Ms. Lily? You can tell me so I will just replace you."

"I'm sorry Mr. Lewis, this won't happen again." Lily said fearfully.

"I will let it slide only this once, but if this happens again you are fired. Now, get back to work." Mr. Lewis said sternly.

Lily left the pantry as fast as she could. She felt humiliated even though it was just the three of them there. She knew that what had happened would reach Mr. Knox's office and she was frightened that he would fire her.

"Your tea, Lewis", Eolly said and handed Mr. Lewis his tea.

" I'm sorry about that. None of the employees who were not in the Tech Dept. during that time they knew how you got hired. Mr. Knox sees to it to conceal the incident to protect your identity and I agree with that. We just never thought that unpleasant humor would spread instead." Mr. Lewis explained to Eolly.

"It was alright, I understand. I don't want to be exposed either."

" By the way, you have to get prepared. The way you answered Lily will surely circulate. Are you sure you can handle that?"

"Don't worry, I am not the type to bother myself with unimportant matters."

"Alright, let's go then." Mr. Lewis ended their conversation and went on with their respective responsibilities.

Meanwhile, there were a total of five applicants who passed the test and initial interview and were lined up outside the testing and interview room. One of them was Lesly. She was confident that she would be hired because of the information she heard that none of the other applicants knew.

She was wearing an above the knee dress hugging her body with a low neckline showing her cleavage and paired it with her 6 inch red stiletto. She made sure to look beautiful and sexy when facing Richard.

"Hi, I'm Raine. Are you feeling nervous too? I was lucky I made it up to the final interview. I was starting to lose hope when that lady announced that I had just made it to the passing score." The applicant said uneasily.

"Do I look like I care? Does it look like I am not capable of passing this final interview?" Lesly replied arrogantly. "One more thing, do you think you will eventually pass this interview? If I were you, I would get up now and walk out, you piece of trash." Lesly added with a mixture of contempt.

Raine kept her mouth shot and head down. She was just trying to feel at ease and eventually find a new friend if ever she passed. Another applicant joined their conversation, "you think highly of yourself. Didn't you see her outfit? Does she look like an ordinary person to you?" The applicant told Raine. "You are so beautiful Miss, I'm sure you will be one of the two secretaries that will be hired. None of us here could hold a candle for you. I am Reese, by the way." Reese said, flattering Lesly. She instantly had a feeling that this woman was not an ordinary applicant. She thought that she had to be on her side to secure her spot.

Lesly looked at her and said, "at least there is someone who is not stupid here." She was about to say something when Leila, one of Mr. Knox's secretary appeared and said, "Please all of you get inside, the interview is about to start."

Lesly stood up and pushed Raine, which made her stumble. Leila knew who Lesley was and an annoyed feeling flashed in her face, praying that Mr. Knox would never hire someone like her. Though there was humor that the new assistant was hired under the table, she did not believe it all. She knew how their CEO worked and he was not the type to bend his rules.

Inside the testing and interview room, Mr. Knox was seated in front of the five applicants. None of the applicants other than Lesly knew that the CEO would do the interview. He could see that everyone was afraid and hesitant except for Lesly, who was looking at him with lust. The interview went on and ended. Mr. Knox left and left the announcement to Leila.

As Raine and the other male applicant were informed that they had passed, Lesly was in a rage that she could not stop herself from yelling at everyone in the room. "How can I not pass?" she asked harshly. "I am the daughter of one of the directors here and you chose this loser over me?" she added and pointed at Raine, who was feeling uneasy. She herself could not believe that she had been hired.

"You know that Mr. Knox does not do underhand hiring. He always looked at applicants' potential and intelligence, and you being the daughter of Director Green will not be a reason for him to hire you." Leila explained with honesty. Lesly became furious with what she said and before Leila could react, Lesly slapped her. Everyone in the room was shocked.

"What is going on here?" Eolly asked as she entered the room. Mr. Knox asked her to brief the newly hired secretaries along with Leila, so she went to the testing and interview room to get them. When she opened the door, she witnessed the unbelievable.

Leila looked at her and explained what had happened. Lesly could not accept the fact that Leila was trying to explain to someone she did not know. She immediately interrupted them and asked, "who are you?"

"I am Mr. Knox's assistant. You are not in the position to hurt Leila, you should apologize to her." Eolly answered with a serious face and tone. Lesly knew that Mr. Lewis is Mr. Knox's assistant and Eolly being there saying she was Richard's assistant enraged Lesly more. "So you are the b***h that had been hired under the table? You have no right to be his assistant. I am more capable than you. In addition to the connection I have, being a daughter of one of the directors here.'' Everyone gasped at what she had just said. They are all looking at Eolly, who is now staring at Lesly sternly.

"Leila, give me Ms. Green's test papers as well as the others." Leila handed her what she needed and looked at those.

"Ms. Raine and Mr. Dean barely got the average score. The other two, Ms. Reese and Mr. Ryan got 23 and 46 points respectively, and you Ms. Lesly scored nothing. You were given one and a half hours to answer these tests and only got these scores. While I perfected all of these, in addition to Mr. Knox's newly generated questionnaires. On top of that, I was done in merely ten minutes. Now tell me, Ms. Lesly, between us, who is worthy of the position? Can you apologize to Leila now?" Eolly said in a business-like manner.

"Another thing, Ms. Lesly, listen to me and listen very well. This is Knox Corp., a bratty b***h like you who only knows how to be slutty will never have a chance to get hired here, and because you lose the chance that Mr. Knox has given you to be hired, you can start picking up your things and leave." Eolly added and everyone in the room looked at her fearfully.

"Eolly, what is taking you so long to get the new secretaries?" Mr. Knox asked. No one noticed that Richard was already there. Leila texted Mr. Lewis on what was happening there that made Richard come over.

Eolly faced him comfortably and gave him a charming smile and said, "I am very sorry Mr. Knox, I just need to give some sense to one of the applicants who thinks highly of herself, but other than being human, but actually inhumane, was brainless."

"I see, what Ms. Lesley needs to apologize for?"

"She slapped Leila when she tried to explain why we did not hire her."

"Ms. Lesly, what are you waiting for? Apologize, NOW!" Mr. Knox said, stressing the urgency.

Lesly can't do anything but follow Mr. Knox and said with her head down, "I'm sorry Ms. Leila."

"It is done now. Wrap it up and get back to work."

"Copy that," Eolly said snappily as she gave a smile and salute. Mr. Knox turned around and left with a smile on his face. An action that did not go unnoticed by Mr. Lewis and Eolly.

'He is indeed always on Eolly's side' thought Mr. Lewis.

"Alright, Ms. Raine and Mr. Dean, please follow me and Leila," Eolly said to the two new secretaries with a welcoming smile that made them feel at ease.

She faced the other three applicants who did not pass and said," For those who are not lucky today, don't lose hope. We are always hiring and you can still send another application to another department that will suit your abilities if you want. This incident should give you a lesson and an advantage on your next job hunt, whether here or in another company. Thank you for giving us your best, you may go.`` As she said that, she turned to Leila and the other two and guided them to the 28th floor for a briefing.

In the secretary's area, Eolly and Leila introduce their new colleagues to Lily and Brent. Eolly does the initial briefing and Leila tours them in the building as well as informs them about other matters and details they need to be familiar with.

"Ms. Eolly, thank you for earlier. I never thought that you would stand for me. Ms. Lesley was Mr. Green's daughter and we all know that he is one of the directors. I am afraid that it will affect you," Leila informed Eolly reluctantly.

"How long have you been here Leila?" Eolly asked.

"Five years. It will be my sixth this coming month."

"You have been here long enough to know our boss. You have to feel confident if you are doing your job efficiently. With Mr. Knox, nothing is more important than doing your utmost best for the better of Knox Corp. in a legal manner. So, you have to stand your ground if you know that you are correct because our boss is capable enough to defend us."

"I will keep that in mind, Ms. Eolly. Nevertheless, I admire you for facing Ms. Lesly in a mocking manner but in a professional way. I had picked up a new way of confronting someone like her."

" Just as I expected from Mr. Knox's secretary. Now, let's go before he notices us going idle."

They both laughed as they went to their respective work. Other than the earlier incident, nothing unpleasant happened after.
