Eolly's POV
Today is my 1st day of work and I'm very excited about seeing Richard again. I like it when he gets mad and when he wrinkles his face so that no painter can make a portrait of him. Those times that we were together, I felt my heart beat faster, and though he always looked angry, I didn't fear him. I don't know but that's what it is.
I didn't know which department I would be assigned to, so I just wore my black skinny jeans and paired them with a crop top. I put on a black bolero to make my attire semi-casual. I ponytailed my hair sideways and applied a very light pink blush on and lipstick. My eyelashes were naturally curved and long, so I did not bother putting on mascara. I sprayed my favorite baby cologne and looked in the mirror. I was satisfied with my looks so I got my keys and left.
When I arrived and entered the Knox Corp. building there were already a lot of employees. They were looking at me and I felt uneasy, so I made my way to the elevator to get to Mr. Knox's office. When I got out of the elevator, I saw Mr. Lewis and approached him immediately.
We greeted and dropped formalities with each other as we are in the same position. I never thought I would be assigned as Mr. Knox's assistant and shock was all over my face. Lewis started his briefing and listened to him carefully. We both didn't realize the time and when we were done with the briefing it was already 10. We exchange numbers for future needs. Lewis asked me to make Mr. Knox's coffee and sent it to his office.
I knocked on Mr. Knox's office and when I heard his permission I slowly opened the door. When I walked in and saw him, my heart skipped and happiness overflowed my body. He was not looking at me so I told him to put down his coffee and ask him if there was anything he needed from me. He said no and I told him I would be taking my leave and went to my office.
I started to organize my working area and try to familiarize myself with my job. I did not notice that it was already 12 nn until Lewis informed me and handed me the files that Mr. Knox will be needed in the meeting with the Marketing Department. I took the files and thanked him for reminding me about the time.
Because I wanted to organize the files for the meeting, I decided to order a food delivery. While waiting for it, I started the sorting of files and photo copied the files that needed to be handed out to the personnel of the marketing department. I was busy with my stuff when I felt like there was someone staring at me. I looked up and saw Richard leaning on my office glass door. I was lost for words for a moment because he looked so appealing.
He asked me about the time and I answered him coolly, he got mad and informed me about strict rules that he was implementing about working and break time which Lewis had already told me. Though he looked angry, I rather felt he was concerned about me. I was about to explain to him but suddenly a receptionist came in and gave me the take-out food I ordered.
I said my thanks and approached her to receive it. The receptionist left my office and, before I got back to my desk, I informed him that I would now have my lunch and keep in mind the importance of breaktime. He just stared at me and was about to leave when I teased him about not always keeping his eyebrows creased and reminded him to have a happy meal before he got angry and said goodbye.
I was eating when Lewis approached me and asked "You are just eating now? Didn't I tell you to have your lunch first before anything else?" Lewis preached to me.
"Halt, Mr. Knox has already scolded me about this, so you can relax now. Anyway, where is Mr. Knox?"
"He should be at the restaurant near our building. He usually has his lunch there. If you can keep up with your lunch, please do so. Don't make him catch you not finish with that or else..."
"Alright, thanks." I said and Lewis left.
After I ate, I cleaned up my table and sprayed some air freshener to remove the unpleasant smell from the food I ate. When I was about to take my seat, I saw Mr. Knox about to enter his office. He stopped suddenly and talked to Lewis. After that, I saw Lewis walking into the pantry area. After a few minutes, I saw him walk out of the pantry with a cup of coffee in his hand.
I was going to the comfort room when Lewis walked out of Mr. Knox's office and told me, "Mr. Knox wants you to attend the meeting with him later. See to it that everything was ready. Mr. Knox hates it when they are missing during presentations at meetings."
"Copy that"
"If you have input or opinions during the meeting you can say it or include it in the meeting summary that you are going to prepare after the meeting to hand over to Mr. Knox." Lewis added. "Noted", I replied.
It was 10 minutes before 2 pm and I decided to head over to the meeting room. When I walked out of my office, I saw Mr. Knox and he saw me too. He stopped walking as if waiting for me. As I was approaching, I felt like I had butterflies in my stomach. As I got nearer to him, he said "let's go" and decided to tease him. He thought I was criticizing his appearance and was not happy about it. We moved on and entered the meeting room.
As I entered the room with Richard, I noticed that everyone was there and they looked uncomfortable. I shifted my gaze to Richard and gave him an "I told you so" look. He just ignored me and proceeded with the meeting.
Everyone's idea was all good. I can tell that they really worked hard and thought about it well. I was constantly smiling whenever a very good idea was raised. When I looked his way, I caught him looking at me too. He shifted his gaze to the presenter immediately and I smiled. The meeting has ended and we agreed to reschedule another one for other ideas and suggestions because Richard thinks that something is still missing.
I have found out that Knox Corp. has acquired a losing magazine company and will do everything to revive it. I was in my office when Richard asked for me.
Inside his office, he reminded me of the meeting summary and asked me if it was possible to hand it to him at the end of the day and I said yes. He told me, "You can go", and looked at me only to notice me grinning.
"What is it?" he asked.
"What?"
"Why are you grinning like a wicked witch?"
"Wicked witch? This face, a wicked witch? I look like an angel Sir!!" I depend on myself.
"And who told you that?"
"My mother"
"Of course she is your mother, she will tolerate you."
"As well as your mother, my friends, colleagues and other bystanders," I said with a wicked smile. He looked at me and I noticed that he had swallowed. I think he's on the same page as me. I never thought that Mr. Knox was very easy to read.
He cleared his throat and said "whatever, you may leave".
"As you said Sir, I will take my leave then." I said with a twinkling smile.
My first day of work turned out to be what I felt earlier. It was indeed exciting. This is the first time I enjoyed doing an 8-5 job. I am happy and content being a freelancer. I don't like being contained in a four corner working space every day. But if I were able to be with my Richard, how lucky could I be?
My phone rang after I left the building. I picked it up and looked at who was calling. It was an unregistered number, so I ignored it and put the phone back in my bag. My phone kept on ringing so I answered, "hello".
"Girl........ what took you so long to answer?" my best friend Seily said.
"Ouch! you're so loud. You know I don't answer calls from unregistered numbers. What's with the new number?"
"I'm at the police station because of some jerk that hit my car." She said,
'What do you mean hit your car? That was an accident!' said a man in the background.
" OK, I'll be there now. Which precinct?" I asked her. She told me about the police station and went there immediately.

I arrived at the police station and saw Seily bickering with the man in a coat. I knew instantly that the man was the one responsible for Seily's rage.
"What! Are you trying to deny that you hit my car now?" Seily said to the man as her eyes widened. I figured they could come up with an agreement because she knows her best friend who does the nagging before understanding the situation. I feel sorry for the man who was already irritated with the situation. The police can't even interrupt Seily's blabbering.
As I approached Seily, she immediately hugged me and cried. The man looked at us furiously.
"It's OK now, I'm here," I hugged her back and told her. I looked at the man and gave him a sincere smile.
"Let us settle this now, girl. I know Uncle Rod has been waiting for you."I told Seily in a convincing tone.
" OK, thank you for coming."
The policeman talked to us while I kept Seily at bay so she would not disrupt the settlement process. The man whose name was Aldrich Reeds managed to keep his cool too. They both agree that Mr. Reeds will pay for the repair of Seily's car. It was settled easily so Eolly wondered why this girl here caused a commotion.
We left the police station and found Mr. Reeds at the entrance.
"Thank you Mr. Reeds for understanding. My friend here is a little sensitive. I hope that you can let the incident slide.", I told him.
"No harm done Ms. Higgins. Thank you for coming over too or this will take longer." Mr. Reeds said and looked at Seily.
"We will take our leave then, bye." I said goodbye to Mr. Reeds and he nodded.
Inside the car, Seily was driving and I was looking at her with a big question mark on her face.
"Now, tell me. What was that?" I asked Seily.
"What?"
"That over-acting skill that you showed at the police station."
"Hahahahaa... Girl, did you see the look on his face? He was really furious!! He just came back from C City. He is the eldest son of the Reeds family here in J City. He went to C City for military training. I wonder what it could feel like to be confined in his arms." Seily said, that made my eyes roll over and she laughed out, really loud.
I was astonished when she heard what Seily said. She just confirmed how crazy her best friend was. Seily was overjoyed so she dropped me off at my apartment building.
When I was about to get out of her car, “Wait, give me your phone,” Seily said.
“Why?”
“I am going to save his number.”
“What number?”
“The one I used to call you, duh.... That’s his. I told him that I had forgotten my cell phone and insisted on calling a friend to help me out, so I borrowed his phone to call you” Seily said, grinning.
“You are really something, you had your pride and still managed to get his number as well as his address, right?” I said while handing her my phone.
“You know your best friend so well,” she said.
I continued getting out of her car and she drove away.
