Chapter Eight

Richard's POV

When I left Eolly's office, I went to the restaurant near the Knox Corp building to have my lunch. I think about how Eolly has spoken to me. It was very casual. It confuses me how she manages to stay calm in my presence. Other staff kept their heads down whenever they were talking to me, but Eolly has never done that from the very beginning.

She always had this confident and superior attitude but remains respectful. She likes to talk back to me and I think she finds it amusing, that is why she always does it.

I feel irritated whenever she talks to me and has this relaxed and collected mood, while my whole being is restless. I always wanted to see her. That is why I assigned her as my assistant along with Lewis.

I was having my meal when I heard a familiar annoying voice, "Richard, I'm so glad I came straight here. I knew you would be here this time. Waiter,"

She is Lesly, daughter of one of the board of directors, Mr. Green. She had been eyeing me to be her boyfriend but I knew better not to have anything to do with her. She is a spoiled brat whose vocabulary lacks the word "shame".I hurried to my lunch and as the waiter that Lesly called came in, I stood up and handed him my bill, not minding the change. I just want to stay away from this brat as soon as possible.

As I walked out of the restaurant, Lesly followed me, going back to the office. "Richard, come on, why are you walking so fast? Babe, please wait for me. I came here to have lunch with Dad but I suddenly remembered he was not here today. So can we have lunch together?" Lesly said, trying to grasp her breath when following me.

I was already annoyed with Eolly being so calm and was thinking about her, so I got irritated with Lesly's non-stop annoyance. Thinking that this might come to her knowledge and I didn't want her to misunderstand, so when we were at the Knox Corp. building lobby and were about to be in the elevator, I faced her and said "I have no time for you if you are here to annoy me. Just leave. You know your father was not here during that time, so don't tell me about the bull s**t." I said angrily, not giving her time to say anything. The staff in the lobby heard this and looked at Lesly with a smirk.

They know how she clings to me every time she visits, using her father as an excuse. I remembered Eolly, so I stopped walking and told her "I don't want others to misunderstand your presence in my company, especially in my office. I don't want any humor about me and you being together circulate. I hope I made myself clear, Ms. Green." I said and went to the elevator, " Please don't just barge in here next time whenever your father is not here. " I added and walked into the elevator, not giving Ms. Green an opportunity to say anything.

I still had time before my meeting with the marketing department, so I called Lewis and asked for a cup of coffee. As he gave me the coffee, I told him, "Lewis let Eolly attend the meeting with me." Lewis looked at me and I continued to say "you go to the Tech Department and take care of the collaboration we want from A Game Dev." After I said that, Lewis nodded and left without further instructions.

I was thinking about Eolly when my phone rang. It was an unknown number. I think I knew who the caller was. Even so, "hello," I answered in a low voice.

"You have a good staff there, Richard. I cannot get into your system. I have never encountered such a wall in my life."

"What do you want?"

"I just want to talk to you. I want to explain what happened, why I left."

"I already told you, keep explaining to yourself. I am not interested."

"I wont stop Richard, unless you listen to me. I would be able to penetrate your wall, keep that in your mind. You know me well."

"Do whatever you want, and no, I never know you. Goodbye!."

I put down my phone and had a deep thought. This woman seems to be getting on my nerves. I don't need her explanation, I am not going to be under her spell once again. My mind was already full of Eolly and I didn't want to add another, especially if it was her.

"Lewis, come to my office now!"

"You called for me Sir."

"Yes, please look for her. Anything and everything about her."

Lewis looked at the table and wondered if I was sure about what I was asking him to do. I gave him a nod and said "right away Sir." and he left.

After Lewis left, I prepared to leave for the meeting when another phone call interrupted me. I looked at it and saw Mr. Green's name. I was already annoyed with what had happened and with his daughter. Was he going to be an addition to my irritation?

"Mr. Green," as I answered his call. "Mr. Knox, forgive me for bothering you, I just want to ask you a favor. My daughter Lesly has started to become responsible and wants to work for the company. I hope you will be able to give her a chance."

"Mr. Green, you know my stand on this matter. If she wants to work here, she needs to undergo the process. Let her submit her application to HR. If there is nothing more, I need to hang up and attend the meeting with the marketing department.

I could not believe this old man. I never thought he would try to negotiate with me in favor of his daughter. Who would believe his daughter's decision to become responsible? And why does she just suddenly want to become responsible when I just had a talk to her earlier? Her daughter was famous in J City for being bratty and spoiled. I looked at the time and found out that it was almost time for my meeting. I stood up and went to the meeting room.

As I closed the door, I glanced at Eolly's office door, located at the end of the hall. I found her going my way. She should be on the way to our meeting. I waited for her and she stopped when she was near me. On seeing that she was prepared, I told her "let's go" and walked away. She followed me and never thought she would say "Sir, I cannot paint your face."

"Come again?" I asked.

"I said you looked intimidating. Can you breathe and relax? The moment you enter the meeting room with that face you are wearing they will think that you lost a hundred million dollar deal."

"You even criticize my appearance? Don't you have anything to do, Ms. Higgins?"

"Hahaha, I have a lot to do but we are currently together and I can't help myself from noticing how stiff you are, Sir." I just looked at her intently and said nothing.

When we entered the meeting room, I noticed that my staff looked worried and uneasy. When my gaze turned to Eolly, she was giving me an "I told you so" look. So I relax and sit.

The marketing department was working on our recently acquired magazine company specifically. Though they are responsible for Knox Corp. marketing related issues, I asked them to do the magazine's marketing because of the conflict with that particular department in the previous management.

"Let's start the meeting." I said.

Everyone started presenting their proposal and I must say that I get their point. I want to focus solely on the matter, but Eolly's smiling face whenever she agrees with the idea of everyone that presents is grabbing my attention. She caught me staring at her and I instantly diverted my eyes from the one presenting and tried to understand everything that she was saying. I nodded every time it became interesting. The meeting is done though there are some matters that need to be ironed out, so we rescheduled another meeting for other improvements.

I stood up first and left Eolly in the meeting room. I don't want to hear anything from her. She might annoy me because she caught me staring at her. With what happened last night, judging from her attitude towards me now, she looks like she has got over it already.

In my office, I called Eolly and she came in. "Yes Sir?" she said, giving me a sweet smile.

"Make a summary of the meeting that happened today and include everyone's suggestions. If you have anything on your mind that can help, please include that also. If you were able to finish that within office hours, that would be great."

"Copy that Sir"

"You can go" I told her, and looked at her only to notice her grinning.

"What is it?" I asked her.

"What?"

"Why are you grinning like a wicked witch?"

"Wicked witch? This face, a wicked witch? I look like an angel Sir!!" she exclaimed.

"And who told you that?"

"My mother"

"Of course she is your mother, she will tolerate you."

"As well as your mother, my friends, colleagues and other bystanders," she said with a wicked smile.I looked at her and I was f****d up. She looks so beautiful and I want to smash her lips with mine. I cleared my throat and said "whatever, you may leave".

"As you said Sir, I will take my leave then."

I caught my breath that I was holding when she finally left my office. I don't know what to do with her. I know she was taunting and teasing me. I don't know until when I can resist this feeling. Assigning her as my assistant might be a bad decision.

When working hours were over, Eolly knocked on my office door and gave me the summary that I asked her to do. I checked it and found that she was very efficient. All details were sorted accordingly and easy to understand. She even noted her opinion on every suggestion the marketing department staff made.

" OK, you may leave," I said, looking at her.

"Alright, I will take you ---- I mean take my leave now. Bye sir" she said, smiling and giving me a peace sign. I was caught off guard and could not say anything until she was out of my sight.
