There was a knock at my door.
I didn’t answer. I just remained on my bed, my face in my pillow filled with ridiculous tears.
The knocking persisted and I still ignored.
“Denver, it’s us. Can we come in?” I heard Lucy’s voice.
I didn’t reply and so I soon heard the door handle and the my door creak open.
I didn’t move from where I was. I just heard their footsteps approach my bed and they sat down.
“Hey Denv.” That was Lucy. “We came up to check up on you.”
I didn’t remove my face from my pillow.
“We’re sorry that we made you feel bad. We didn’t mean it.” Elise said apologetically.
I rose my head up from my pillow.
“I’m not mad at you two ok?” I said as I turned to them. “I’m not mad at anyone. I know that you were all just being honest and grandma on her own part didn’t want to have me worried and all worked up.”
I sniffed. “It’s just that I don’t know how to feel. It’s like a lot on my head. I’m ‘the’ hybrid, and then I’m ‘the’ girlfriend to ‘the’ next Alpha. It’s like being a local town celebrity. All eyes on you and everyone expecting so much from you.”
“Awwwwn sweetie are you crying?” Lucy said wiping away my tears.
I sighed and put my face back in the pillow.
“Okay can you please sit up for a while?” Lucy asked me, her hand on my shoulder.
I thought about it for a few seconds and then I obliged.
I sat up and looked at them both.
“We feel really bad that you’re crying and that you feel bad about all this.” Elise said, turning to look at Lucy. “We’re all just trying to protect you in one way or the other.”
“You see having you as our niece makes us act dumb sometimes. Makes us do things without thinking.” Lucy said and Elise nodded.
I looked at the two of them.
“Okay then. Alright then. So what is it?” I asked. “Is Jack’s mum the mean bad wolf?”
They looked at each other. Then turned back to me.
“The truth.” I reminded them.
“We can’t really say she is the mean bad wolf.” Elise said. “You see she is this strict business type of woman. She doesn’t like messing around or people messing with her plans and she has a reputation of being incredibly mean.”
“I’ve met her a couple of times and I didn’t like her.” Lucy said truthfully.
“Look, one of the reasons why Angela is probably so commandeering, the way she is, well that’s because she is a wolf. A mother wolf.” Elise said. “And mother wolves don’t just act the same way regular mothers do. They are more protective, more commandeering. They protect their territory and that’s one of the reasons why she is the way she is.”
I wanted to start crying again.
“But... but.... but....” Lucy told me. “Since she called to see you, then that means that she must want to know you.”
“Or want to threaten me.” I said unhappily.
“She could do that.” Elise said. “It’s possible. But no matter what it is, I want you to take a shot. I want you to see how it goes. I want you to know you tried. Cause girl there is nothing as bad as you regretting ever not making a move.”
I looked at the two of them.
They were right.
Yes Angela Brooks might have been rumoured to be a mean woman, and she had sent Jack’s ex girlfriend to come and take him back, but then that didn’t mean she was completely bad.
I still had not meant her yet. I could not conclude. It just wasn’t the right thing to do.
I sighed and looked at the two of them. “You’re both right.”
“Of course we are.” Lucy smiled at me. “We’re your aunts and we would always want what’s best for you.”
They embraced me into a very tight and warm hug. I was so happy to have the both of them in my life.
“Thank you so much.” I said in all earnest.
“You’re welcome.” They said at once.
“So what are you going to be wearing?” Elise asked me. “What type of setting is it?”
I shrugged. “Well, Jack said it’s a normal type of family dinner. I don’t know.”
“Oh right.” Lucy said nodding her head. “We need you to make a statement.”
“You can’t definitely go looking simple.” Elise said and I laughed.
“Look is there anything else we need to know?” Lucy asked me. “Is there anything else that you aren’t telling us?”
I started to sweat. I wasn’t sure if I should tell them.
I swallowed. Maybe I could handle this all on my own.
“Denver.” Elise said and I jumped up.
“Jesus Christ.” I said startled my hand on my chest.
“Are you sure you are ok?” Elise said looking at me up and down.
“Of course I am.” I told them, laughing uncomfortably. “I was just thinking about somethings. I get my mind traveled way too far.”
They eyed me suspiciously. Before they could say anything, I jumped up from my bed and started pushing them out.
“Well before I eventually get to get late, I think you two should start being on you way out.” I said.
“But I thought you needed us to get you ready.” Elise pouted.
“Yes, you would.” I said. “It’s just that I need to have my bath right now and everyone knows how I am about my bath.” I smiled awkwardly.
“How is she about her bath?” Lucy asked Elise.
I successfully pushed them out of my room and was about to close the door when Lucy held it.
“So you forgive us right?” Lucy asked me.
I was lost for a second. “Huh?”
“For making you cry. We made you cry.” Elise explained.
Then I remembered.
“Oh yeah. Oh that.” I said and laughed and waved it off. “Oh that was nothing. Of course you two are forgiven now I have to be on my way to get ready. Bye!”
I slammed the door shut in their faces before they could say something else.
“What was that all about?” Elise asked Lucy.
Lucy shrugged.
“Who knows? Teenage secrecy I guess.” Lucy replied and then they left.
I leaned my back on the door and closed my eyes.
I felt so guilty that I was hiding this from everyone. Even my aunts who I could tell anything without feeling ashamed.
I just didn’t want to have things getting out of hand.
I didn’t want anyone to know that I had kissed Asher, Jack’s twin brother. My boyfriend’s twin brother.
