DENVER’S POV "Yes, he did." She answered. "He told me that he wanted you to come over to his house for a sort of dinner." I wanted to pull my eyes out in frustration. I had hoped that he was joking and maybe he hadn't asked grandma for permission. Grandma eyed me from the corner of her eyes. "Why is there a problem?" She asked me as she opened the fridge. I sighed heavily. "Grandma can I tell you something?" "Of course sweetheart, anything." Grandma said and then she pulled out a packet of chicken and pork. "Chicken or pork?" "Pork." I said and then she returned the chicken back to its place and closed the fridge shut. "Ok so the thing is Jack's twin brother is in town." I told her. Grandma tilted her head. She did that when she tried to think for a second. “You say twin brother huh?” Grandma asked me. I nodded. “Hmmm.” Grandma said to herself. “What is it?” I asked very anxious. “Nothing.” She told me. Then she turned to look at it. “It is just that now that you have said it, I recall that there were actually two Brook boys.” “Huh.” Grandma said to herself again. “That Angela really had a lot of twins in her.” I thought so too, I mean after all, she literally had had two different set of twins. “So why are you worried?” She asked me. “I don’t know grandma. It’s just really a lot to digest.” I said. Grandma smiled at me. “You’re my granddaughter. A Howe witch, a hybrid. Meeting your boyfriend’s family shouldn’t make you anxious.” I sighed and touched my forehead. “It’s like everyone expects so much from me. Just because I happen to be a hybrid.” I said unhappily. Grandma stopped what she was doing and turned to look at me. “Sweetie don’t say that.” Grandma said reasonably. “You aren’t just anyone. Hell you aren’t just any hybrid. You are the only hybrid on this planet. You are her for a reason.” “I need you to understand.” She told me. Then she put her hands on my shoulder and looked into my eyes. “If you were just any hybrid, then why wasn’t your brother chosen instead of you.” I kept quiet. I did frequently think of that. Why wasn’t Denis the hybrid? I mean he was much more responsible than I was. So why me? “Your Brother is special in his own special way.” She told me. “So are you. Okay sweetie?” I nodded and then she kissed my head. “Good Girl.” “Try not to worry about all this.” Grandma told me. “Even though his mother is a complete..... I looked at grandma. Then she cleared her throat and said. “Is a great mother.” I looked at grandma. “Are you sure that is all you want to say? Great mother?” “Yes.” Grandma replied. “She is a great mother.” “Who is a great mother?” Lucy asked as she came into the kitchen with Elise. “Angela Brooks. Jack’s mum.” I said. “Angela Brooks?” Elise said. “A great mum? Since when?” I turned to look at grandma. I knew Grandma wanted to say something else. “She is a terrible person and a complete pain in the ass.” Lucy said. “And a complete b***h too.” Elise said. “Yup, that too.” Lucy said. I turned to look at grandma. “You were lying to me.” I complained. Grandma sighed. “I didn’t mean to sweetheart.” Then grandma looked up at Aunt Lucy and Elise. “Great work you two huh. I was trying to save your niece from feeling so bad about her boyfriend’s family. Great job you guys.” “Oh.” Elise and Lucy said. “Wait i thought that she had already met Angela.” Lucy chipped in then she turned to me. “Denver didn’t you meet Angela at the pre coronation party?” I shook my head. “No I didn’t. I mean I just saw her in the distance, but then no I didn’t meet her personally.” “But don’t you think it’s better for her to know what she is dealing with?” Lucy asked grandma. “Know what im dealing with? What does she mean?” I asked quickly. “Nothing.” Grandma smiled at me. “Just that your aunts have two really big mouth that always seems to be running and saying absolute nonsense.” Grandma smiled at me. “See I promise you there is nothing to worry about. Angela is a strict business woman, that does not mean she is a killer or she is going to hunt you down.” “Or pluck your eyes out.” Lucy said. “Or have her followers turn you into a dog and keep you in a cage as her pet forever.” Elise said. Grandma turned to look at them with an angry face. I was so mortified. “What your aunts are trying to say is that your Angela is not going to harm you. She does not have any reason to anyway. Once she meets you I am sure she is just going to love you.” Grandma said. “It would be love at first sight. She is just being protective like any other mother would.” I looked at all three of them wondering what exactly to believe, who to believe. “I don’t know what to believe anymore.” I said and ran out of the kitchen. Grandma turned to Elise and Lucy. “Good Job in making Your niece feel bad about herself and possibly bring down herself esteem before she is even able to meet her boyfriend’s families.” Grandma said and then she left the kitchen too. Elise and Lucy turned to look at each other.
