~ELIZABETH
For the next course of days, I spent it feeling more alive.
I sat in my room, brushing through my red hair before the mirror. My deep blue eyes stared back at me and it relieved me to know that I did not have to wear cataracts to hide my vampire traits. I could control it better now.
Although, during the days, I had to face Jameson. I did not hate him and I was not falling out of love with him either. I still wanted him badly but I needed to keep my fangs away from him. I did not think that he would understand since he had a great problem with the vampires.
"I wonder what Darius will show me today," I muttered to myself as I dropped my brush.
I had started looking forward to the nights. It was the only time I felt free and complete. I had finally embraced my vampire side. Both sides were no longer in conflict.
Darius had taught me how to hypnotize people and bend them to my will. He had taught me how to vanish and speed walk. He even taught me how to shed my pale skin at night and look normal.
I smiled at the thought in the mirror. I felt my wolf stir with excitement. "Maybe he'll teach me a new trick. Something he learnt on his own," I hoped.
Spending time with the vampires made me realize that they were not as bad as Jameson had painted them. I even found myself getting more attracted to Darius each time we talked.
I laughed a lot when he was there and sometimes, we had intense moments where we got stuck in each other's gazes. We could both feel the attraction but we were denying it— I was denying it. Especially since I knew that I had a mate who could not stand vampires.
I sighed and got to my feet. The sun was still blazing in the center of the sky and I already felt exhausted from having to face Jameson.
As if on cue, the scent of lavender filled my nose. "Speaking of the devil," I muttered under my breath.
I turned just in time to see Jameson standing in the doorway. He was dressed in tracksuit, ready to hit the woods.
"Get ready Elizabeth. We're going running in ten minutes," he announced. "Like we always do," he added with a smile.
My heart sank into the pit of my stomach and I swallowed bile. If I made the mistake of accepting this offer then my secret would be out. While running, he would ask me to shift and once I did, he would see through my real nature. Half vampire, half wolf. I needed to find a way to put him off.
"Jameson. . .I— I can't run now. I— I have this pain in my legs," I lied.
He entered the room and stopped a few inches from me. His expression darkened as he lowered his head to my level.
"Get ready in ten minutes, no excuses. I want to run with you and as your Alpha, I demand that you fulfill my wish!" He stated firmly.
Both my wolf and vampire felt intimidated by him and this caused a disturbance in the balance that I had suffered to establish between them.
The racing of my heart accelerated and my breathing became heavier. "A— as your wish, my Alpha," I muttered before bowing to him.
Jameson gave me a triumphant smile before walking out of the room. In a flash, I grabbed my phone and dialed Darius' number.
Yet I could not reach him. I tried again, for maybe a million times but I could not get through.
"What is wrong with your phone, Darius?" I cried in frustration but that was not helping me.
I suddenly caught Jameson's scent again. I hurriedly ran to my wardrobe and pulled out clothes that were suitable enough to run in.
By the time he walked back in, I was already in my loose pants and just throwing on a t-shirt.
"Good, let's go," Jameson instructed.
I gulped hard as I threw my phone into my pants' pocket and followed him quietly out. On the way down the corridor, Jameson sighed heavily.
"I'm sorry if I sounded rude earlier. I know I overreacted. I just want to spend some time with you and since you've been pushing me away, I resulted to doing it this way," he explained.
That was when my racing heart reduced a bit but it was not enough. Jameson suddenly took my hand in his warm one unlike Darius' and it brought me some kind of comfort.
"If anything is bothering you, you know that you can always talk to me," he added.
For some reason, I wanted to believe him. If I could just tell him the truth about what I had become, then I would not have to sneak around and hide anymore. But it was too risky. I had a lot to lose in the process if he did not accept me.
I felt for my phone, hoping to get a call back from Darius but it never vibrated. I sighed and looked up at him.
"You would be the first person I'll meet," I lied.
We descended the stairs and saw some of our subjects. That was when I remembered my coronation was around the corner. Did I still have it in me to be Luna and fulfill my responsibilities to Crescent Moon Pack?
Jameson led me out of the building and we started with slow jogs. Again, I wondered why we were jogging under the sun. It felt strange but he had justified himself by wanting to spend time with me.
We jogged in silence until we entered the woods. "Finally, we can now embrace our wolves and unleashed them into the world!" Jameson exclaimed with enthusiasm.
That was when I felt my heart shatter into a thousand pieces. This was what I had been avoiding the entire time. If I were to transform, then it would be over.
"Let's have a break and sit under a tree to catch up," I made a lame suggestion.
Jameson barred his fangs at me. "Shift!" He roared menacingly.
