Chapter 1
Amelia's POV: Amelia! Amelia! Amelia! People started calling my name as I waved at them. I did it! I won the pageant. In addition, I won the Prettiest Girl Award. "Congratulations Amelia!" I turn to see Quiel, holding a bouquet of flowers. "These flowers are for you." He said. Oh My Gosh! Is this for real? Ezequiel Adams is giving me flowers? "Thank you," I said as I get the flowers. "You look so beautiful." Quiel smiled. OMG! His smile is everything and his voice makes my knees so weak and the way he stares at me really send me chills down to my spine. "Thank you!" I smiled back. Quiel suddenly grab my hands and kneel down “Will you be my girlfriend?" He asked. "Oh my gosh!" I gasped. "I - I - I" I didn't get the chance to finish my sentence because I fainted. "Amelia, wake up! Amelia, wake up!" That was the only thing I heard before everything went pitch black. "AMELIA, WAKE UP! AMELIA, WAKE UP!" I heard someone calling me. "AMELIA, WAKE UP! AMELIA, WAKE UP!" Gosh! So, everything was just a dream? I hate my life. "AMELIA, WAKE UP! AMELIA, WAKE UP!" It sounded like my grandma. Wait? Grandma? I quickly got up and looked at my clock. s**t! I'm late for school. Amelia Royale is the name by the way. I’m just a simple girl who is living a simple life. You can classify me as the normal or not so popular girl as I don't belong in the "it-girl" group. I know that I'm not pretty like the other girls. I know that I'm also a nerd. You can definitely tell by the glasses. But, I’m proud of what I am. I don't know why but physical appearance is such a big deal for everybody. I mean, people don't care if you are smart but it's a big deal if you are ugly. So, as I was saying, since I'm a nerdy girl, I don't belong to the "It-Girl" group. I belong to the nerdy geek group if you know what I mean. Wouldn't it be nice if there are no groups? Like anyone could join and could fit it. But on the other hand, I've always wanted to be part of the "It-girl group." "Well, this is unusual?" My grandma said as I sat down. My grandma has been there for me. From the moment I was born and up till now. "What?" I asked as I took a bite from my toast. "Getting late for school?" she asked in a duh tone. "Well, there is always a first time in everything." I joked. "Besides, it’s Friday! Our generations called it last day syndrome." "Last day syndrome?" grandma asked confused. "You know, getting lazy because it's the day and the next is Saturday." I laughed. Granny laughed along with me but she knew that I hate being late and neither do I but like I've said, there is a first time in everything. "Your mother called," Grandma said. "She said that she and your dad miss you so much." It’s nothing new. "What should I tell them?" My grandma asked. "Ask them if they still remember me and their promises," I said with no emotions. I don't hate my parents. I just don't like the idea that we are far from each other. My parents are both OFWs so they are not always around. Christmas, new years and even birthdays, I celebrate it with my grandma. You name it. "Amelia Royale!" My grandma said in a high tone. "What did I tell about your parents and their job?" Granny doesn't like if I question about my parent's job. I mean, that I know that it's not their fault that they have to be away for years but I just missed them so much. So much that it made me so angry because they don't have time for me anymore. It's hard if you don't have a parent to support you. I know that I have a Granny but she is really old and I couldn't just tell her kinds of stuff about schools, crushes and many more. I just don't think that she'll understand our generations. "I'm sorry granny, it's just that I miss them so much and they promise me before that they'll be here to celebrate Christmas," I explained. "To be honest, I can't remember the last time we've celebrated or any occasion that we are complete. My granny sighed as she sat down. "I know how you feel sweetheart but all I'm asking is for you to understand them and get through your thick skull head that they working abroad for your future." Yes! I get it. They are doing it for my future. But do they even know the feeling without parents to look after you? To attend every activity you have and to support you in our achievements? Besides, did they even ask me what would I want for my future? No, they didn't! They left me years ago and just send money to us. But, just like my granny always says, understand their situation. That's what I did! I focused on my studies and got a scholarship. My tuition is free plus I had an allowance. So, I cannot understand the fact that they have to go to other countries. "If you are upset then I'll just tell them and ask them if they can find a way to be here at Christmas?" My granny said, interrupting my thoughts. I gave a smile and hugged her. "Thanks, granny. You're the best and I'm sorry about earlier!" "I know how you felt so I'm not blaming you but never say bad stuff about your parents." She said and I nodded. For your information, you must never ever bad mouth in front of your granny. I mean it. If you want to cuss, say it in your mind or when your granny is not around. On the other hand, she is the best granny that I ever had. Well, she is the only one I had. But I love her to death. I sigh as I looked at my watch. Five minutes till school starts, better get going I guess.
