Chapter 13

Celia GEOGRAPHY CLASS I got this strange feeling from Jamie today. His emotions seemed a bit off. He kept on trying to offer Ava some extra form of comfort, even when he saw she was calm about the whole situation. Yeah, I could blame it on how protective he is, but this is quite more comforting than protective. There has to be something going on, he is not telli... "Miss Celia woods! care to remind the class of what we are discussing?". Mr Banks asked cutting off my trail of thoughts. "Umm...if you are just discussing It, I don't think there's a need to remind you guys". I said with a sheepish smile while scratching the back of my neck. Ava was beside me stifling a laugh and so was the rest of the class. I know I might've pissed Mr Banks off, but being sent to the principal is way better than standing here in front of everyone. Surprisingly, Mr Banks also found what I said amusing as he too was smiling. This is weird, why is he smiling? I thought. "Good one Celia. I'll let it slide this time, but next time you might not be so lucky. I'm in a good mood today. I don't want to spoil it". He said and gestured for me to sit. Thank you Lord for his good mood. I said internally, then nodded and took a seat while muttering a "thank you". Ava was staring at me looking all red and suffocated from holding her laughs, but I looked away knowing that I'd either get mad at her or get in trouble cause of her. I'm avoiding all forms of trouble in this class. The bell rang and it was time for the next class. Ava and i went straight for the doors and towards our lockers. I silently thank God that I wasn't called back by Mr Banks. The road to the lockers were so annoying. Ava won't stop making fun of me no matter how I tried to stop her or how I ignored her. I got to the lockers, opened it and tried to get some books out. Then she asked, "What was even going on in that coily haired head of yours that got you called out?" "It might be weird, strange or even wrong but..." I paused and she closed her locker to put all concentration on me. "I think Jamie loves you as more than friends". She stared at me for a while before she bursts laughing drawing attention and irritated looks to the both of us. "That's silly. Is this because of that one time at the water park?" She asked, remnants of her laughter pouring out of her. I just rolled my eyes and replied, "No, at least not just that. It's something I have been noticing for a while now and I think I'm right". "Oh stop playing Cee-cee". She said laughter practically dangling her. I huffed, closed my locker and left her there. "Hey! Wait up! Don't be sour about It!". She yelled across the hall and i walked faster pretending I wasn't the one she just yelled to. Gosh! For some one so prim and proper, she can be so embarrassing sometimes. I thought and snickered. She decided to take it as a game and chased me. We chased ourselves down the hall and into our next class. Thank God the teacher wasn't there yet. As we burst in, other students looked at us. some scared, some confused and some disgusted and others amused. I didn't care and Ava didn't seem to care either cause once we got in she said, "Ha! I gotcha!" all the while giggling. "Yeah! Cause I let you, though you are fast. You know what, being a track star might be in your future right after being a smartie pants and a nerd". I chuckled at the end of the sentence and she faked being mad. We took the seats beside the windows and sat on in. She took the a seat two columns away from the front of the class, while I took the one behind her. We got out some snacks and began to munch. Hours later "Thank God school is over". I said stretching myself while walking towards the parking lot. "Yeah!" Ava sighed. "You think the boys are with coach?" "Nope!" A familiar voice replied. We both turned around to see the boys all walking towards us. "What's up girls?" Ivan asked. "How were classes today?" Nate asked. "It was cool, what about you guys?" Ava replied and before anyone else could answer, Jamie spoke. "It was cool too." "Yeah." Nate said. "Even Mr Burns class was cool...who knew!" Ivan added and Ava and I laughed. "So I guess it's time to head home. Let's get to the car." Nate said. "I call shotgun!" Ivan yelled and we all shook our heads. "You aren't a baby bro." Jamie said rolling his eyes while Nate watched with amusement. "Well I am a child of God, so I'm God's baby which then means that...I am a baby!" Ivan replied with a baby voice and a huge baby-ish grin on his face. "Amen to that brother!" I yelled out. "Glory be God!" Nate said all preacher like. "Hallelujah!" Ava shouted then we all laughed. Jamie couldn't even keep a straight face and let Ivan have the shotgun seat. We drove around town while throwing a concert. The vibes were so high and intoxicating, but I can bet that I saw Jamie looking at Ava longer than he should through the rear view mirror. I smiled for a while and hoped that what ever happens, works out for them. I brushed the thoughts away and fell into the vibes once more. I wanted to chill like this with my friends forever, but I knew that it won't remain like this for long, we will graduate soon. "Hey guys, you think we could hang out during the weekend like chill at the mall or get pizza or something?", I spoke up after a long while of singing. "Yeah!" They all chorused. "When do you think we should do it?" Nate asked and looked at me all sparkly eyed. "Wow! I guess the vibes have gotten to Nate. He's all excited for something we haven't even planned yet." I thought and giggled. "What about this weekend?" Ivan jumped in. "That's cool! Saturday or Sunday?" Ava was the one to ask this time. "I think Saturday." Jamie contributed. "Yeah, cause after church our parents might want to have family wind down time." I said while pulling up possible reasons and scenarios in my head. "Yeah." "True." "That's right." "Yep." They all murmured in agreement as I just stared at them, and was amazed at how they answered questions that they themselves asked me, then made a plan. "So you all aren't dumb, thank God." I muttered under my breath. "Huh?" They all asked and I panicked a bit. "Umm...it's all planned then. Saturday we hangout all day." I said with a little laugh. They looked a bit unconvinced for a while, but then started to yell happily. I let out a breath and turned to my left side only to catch Nate watching me, an amused smile on his lips before he turned to look out the window. "This boy is trying to put me on edge. Nate and his games. He is still as boyish as i met him." I thought to myself before smiling and singing.
