Chapter 20 The Trail Ends Tony and Talon climbed out of the canyon at their first opportunity. Tony changed Talon’s course a little and headed more west. The day held the promise of a good ride. They held to the ridge for a few miles and then dropped into another valley. This one was wide and had a lot of other little canyons that fed into it. It was timbered and once they started down into it all that could be seen were the trees and underbrush. The trails Tony used were game trails that came and went. Small springs with green grass seemed to develop out of nowhere and were gone just as fast. There were less rocks and more sagebrush. The canopy of the pines overhead kept the sun from finding most of the forest floor and allowed for mushrooms and ferns to take root. Talon had never see
