Chapter 16Tia’s pov
After Skylar left, I waited for the nurse to show up, so I could get ready, and leave to meet up with Layla. Once the nurse got there, she went over and started to play with Deacon. He really liked her, and so did I. I hurried upstairs to finish getting dressed so Layla wouldn’t be alone waiting for me.
I had a bad dream last night that her ex got to her, so I wasn’t going to take any chances. I gave Deacon a kiss and got in my car. Once I was in town, I called Layla letting her know I would be there soon.
I pulled up to the restaurant and looked around. There wasn’t a lot of people out and about which was good. I could keep my eyes open for anyone that looked suspicious. I walked up to the front of the restaurant and saw Layla there waiting for me. We squealed like teenagers and hugged.
“Oh, Layla it is so good to see you. I feel like it’s been forever.”
“It’s been way too long. How is my favorite little man?” Layla asked.
“He’s doing great and getting so big. The doctors are amazed by how well he is doing.”
“He’s a fighter just like his mama was, and his amazing aunt.”
I smiled at her. Whenever I was with Layla, I felt closer to my sister. I remembered all the crazy times we had together. We walked in and the hostess asked us if we would like to sit on the patio. We said yes so, she took us to our table.
We chatted a bit more before placing our order. I kept looking around. I had this weird feeling that we were being watched yet no one was around us. I didn’t want to worry Layla, so I just let it go.
“So, Layla how are things with Derek?”
“They are well they are great. I was so wrong about him.”
“Yea he seems really nice, and Skylar seems to like working with him on this project.”
“Speaking of Skylar how is that going?”
“Well he told me he loves me, and um Deacon called him dada which freaked me out. But Skylar totally handled it and made me love him even more.”
“He sounds great Tia. I am so happy for you. You deserve an amazing guy.”
“We both do.”
We ate our lunch then decided instead of driving that we would walk around to the stores to shop since it was a beautiful day out. We laughed and talked about our men. I should have followed my gut and kept looking around. I stopped so I wouldn’t make Layla feel uncomfortable. If I just kept looking, we wouldn’t have fallen into a trap. A man walked up to us and I could see Layla freak out a bit.
“Hello ladies I’m Niko I was sent by Derek to keep a watch over you. I work for Oliver at the security company.”
“Okay why are you telling us. Shouldn’t you quietly follow us around?” I asked.
Something about this guy just seemed off. He gave me a bad vibe. I wanted him to get away from us. I wanted to call Skylar and Derek and have them come here because I was starting to worry.
“Well I was, but I need to take you guys in my truck to Derek and Skylar right away.”
“Why what’s wrong?” Layla asked.
“There’s been an accident at the worksite, and I need you both to come with me.”
Had we both been in our right mind we never would have left with him. When he said the men, we loved were hurt we stopped asking questions, and just left with him.
Of course, there was no accident. Our men were just fine, but we didn’t know that. We got in his truck and took off. That was our first mistake. One that I hope didn’t cost us our life.
