Prologue Pt. 1
I can remember the first time I began to think I was more than just a human among a pack of werewolves. I was eight years old and living with my aunt and uncle in their pack. They are both delta-ranked and had taken me in when my mother died. My aunt was not actually my aunt, she had been one of my mother's best friends but my mother never told her who my father was so she took me in as her niece and my uncle simply accepted it. Two weeks before my ninth birthday there was a demonic attack on the village, and I had run with the other children to the teachers to be safe. However, the demons had gotten to us a lot faster than anyone had expected and instead of defending us all one of the teachers had grabbed me and literally threw me back towards the demons. “You will slow those vile creatures down so we may have a chance.” She had shouted as she did, so the venom dripped from her words. I began crying, absolutely terrified of the demons, so I closed my eyes and waited for the attack but before they could our warriors had managed to get to us. Once I saw them, I took off running but this time I ran to the trees hoping I could climb to safety but before I could even start climbing, I was snatched by my collar and thrown to the ground. Looking up I saw a demon hissing at me. I remember screaming stay back, leave me alone but the creature kept advancing on me.
I remember closing my eyes and then suddenly I was pinned to the ground but as fast as the weight hit me it was gone, and I felt a warmth I never had before engulfing my body. I opened my eyes, and the demon was gone, nothing but ash was left. I then heard my name being called but before I could answer as though my body was exhausted and the last conscience thought I had before I passed out was my aunt was going to save me as I had seen her running towards me. After that day when I woke up in my room, I was never treated the same except by my aunt and uncle. The pack for the most part ignored my existence, at least the older pack members did the younger ones though they began taking immense pleasure in tormenting me whenever they could. Eventually, I was a shell of the happy child I had been and four years later I was given the worst news possible. I was to become the offering to the infamous Archduke. The only Archduke of our lands who was said to be a dark and cruel demon, especially to humans.
