“I’m sorry please, please don’t kill me I’m sorry I didn’t mean to please forgive me. I don’t want to die I’m sorry.” I was crying hysterically praying that I would be spared. “Please I will do......” My words were cut off by a fierce growl and me being pulled into a hard chest and held there and then I felt a vibration against my cheek and realized it was rumbling that was coming from the chest I was held too. Strangely enough I began to calm down but I was still crying. “Shhh my child shhh it is alright you are safe, no one is going to hurt you I promise.” The Archduke said to me as he continued to hold me to him. “Take Cassandra away I will deal with her later.” Archduke added and then I was suddenly picked up and still cradled against his chest he said “Wrap your arms around my neck small one.” And I did as told still scared I was going to die.“Your Grace I recommend letting me examine her, that reaction has me concerned.” I heard a voice say. The Archduke did not reply verbally but I did feel him give a brief nod.

“Kehlani.” I heard the Archduke call out and I hoped she wasn’t disappointed in me. I never removed my head from the Archduke neck as I was scared to see the eyes of hate and coldness reflected in them at me and only hoped that I would not be punished to bad for upsetting the Archduke’s mate. ‘However with the fact that someone asked to examine her they must think I have done something to her to make her act like that. So there is a good chance that even with proof that I did nothing to her they won’t believe me after all I am just a lowly human while she is the mate and love of the Archduke.’ I thought to myself just as I heard a door close behind us. I was still crying but I wasn’t out right sobbing in fact the tears just rolled down my cheeks at this point. I was sat down on a soft surface but I barely noticed it let alone the room I was in. “Check her.” I heard the words but I barely registered them as I felt someone touch my forehead very lightly. I blinked and refocused on the man that was in front of me. “Mira.” I didn’t move my head but my eyes trailed to the Archduke and all I say was cold hatred there and I could see his aura pulsing in rage. ‘I’m going to die.’ It was the last thought I had before blacking out.

“What the hell are you telling me Acheron?” I was slowly coming back awake and heard an angry voice ask. “The bruises are very old, but I am sure that they are from prolonged physical abuse or in this case excessive punishment considering how she reacted earlier.” The other voice answered. “She was examined two months ago, and no bruises were seen then so explain that to me.” “While on the outside the bruises have healed it is very apparent that, her body is still recovering. My bet would be that she was beaten for a prolonged period and then when it was decided that she would come to you they stopped hitting her about two months before the examination so that the bruises would be healed but kept up the verbal and emotional abuse. The only reason she isn’t in worse condition is because....” “Ugh.” I groaned as I moved to try to sit up and felt a pain in my side. “Mira.” The Archduke said as he pulled the curtain that was blocking my view out of the way. I saw him and the man from before standing there. “You must not move child you are badly injured and need your rest.” The other man suddenly sitting beside me. I blinked confused I knew I was hurt but I had dealt with it a long time plus, I knew I needed to apologize.

“I am very sorry for upsetting the Archduchess your grace I promise I will stay out of her way.” I said, bowing my head low. “Mira raise your head.” The Archduke spoke in such a soft strained voice that I looked up immediately and found him beside me and then he was kneeling before me. “Your grace!” I exclaimed in surprise. “Acheron leave us a moment I need to speak with her alone.” He said to the other man who apparently did as told as I heard the door open and close before the Archduke moved to sit on the bed with me. “Mira, I want you to listen to everything I am about to tell you and listen closely and completely before you ask any questions, once I am done, I will let you ask any and all questions alright?” I blinked confused but still nodded my head in agreement. “I had a mate at least she was supposed to be my mate but before I could ask her to be my mate, I was called away to battle. I told her I would be back for her and asked her to wait for me until then. I wasn’t supposed to be gone long but it did not matter because a few minor lords in my territory decided that they would lie to her and while she was not sure what to believe she waited for me so they decided to attack her causing her to flee for her life what I did not know was that she was pregnant but they did and knew that they had to kill her and the child. She ran as far as she could for as long as she could until she was able to reach out to a friend for aid.
