Chapter nineteen - It's my fault

Lizzy's POV:

Dad is in trouble, thanks to me. All I wanted was to help him. My intentions were good. I thought I was careful. It looks like this wasn't enough. Devan knows someone looked through his things. It's about time for him to find out it was me. I can't believe it. I don't know what will happen now. The worst thing is that he knows me. We have met before through Adam. He still doesn't talk to me. I try every day in school. I have no idea what else I have to do. His dad is a criminal. There are so many evidences. Dad told me to talk to him after everything was done. I don't know when this will happen. I got a lower grade on my last test. Mom thought something was going on. We fixed our relations, but not completely. She wasn't happy about my grades. I have so many things in my head that school is the last thing I need. I can't escape from it. I have to study as well. I wish someone could do my work instead of me. When I was doing it with Adam, things seemed easy. Now, we don't talk to each other. It's my fault. I shouldn't have told him this. I mean, even if it's the truth. He might forgive me, but I won't hear it. No, this won't happen. I won't let his dad destroy my life. Somehow, I will find a way to save my dad. I hope that when I do that, it won't be too late.

I woke up in a weird mood. It's like something will happen today. I texted my dad when I woke up. He said everything was fine. This might not be about him. I made a mistake, and I have to take the consequences of it. I wish we could get over this. I have no idea what is happening. Devan is after us. I'm sure about this. The question is if he knows that I know. I can ask Adam, but he has no idea what is happening. I don't know how to make him stay away from his dad.

I'm in the hall. My class finished ten minutes ago. Adam is over there. He doesn't want to talk to me. I have to do it, but it won't be easy. Sadly, he is like me. Both of us are stubborn. Everyone was around the table. My parents were talking. I hope that Adam will play his part well. I don't want to risk his life.

Adam texted me. His dad doesn't have time for him. I expected this to happen. Here is one more reason for my friend to move from there. Devan came home early today. We will check on him later. I don't know what else to do. Not many options have been left to me. I will think about a strategy. Before that, I should talk with my dad. He can tell me what to do. For now, it's better if I don't involve Adam in anything else. I don't want to risk his life because of me. It's enough that my dad and I are in trouble. I can't involve anyone else.
