Chapter 1
“I, Ophelia Parker, take you, Vincent Liam, to be my lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do us part.”
Ophelia said with smiles on her lips at the man who stood beside her, dressed in a tuxedo, his brown hair styled backward, his lips curled up into the brightest smile she had ever seen, stared intensely at her as he put the ring on her finger.
“You may now kiss the bride.” The Officiant said.
Ophelia squeezed her eyes shut as Vincent placed his warm palm on her cheek, and slowly leaned in for a kiss.
“Ophelia!”
She heard her name just before the kiss, but refused to open her eyes, she poked her lips out to reach Vincent’s.
“Ophelia, wake up!”
She heard her name again, this time she scowled and opened her eyes, almost blinded by the sunlight coming from the window.
She glanced around her bedroom and clenched her quilt. ‘It was only a dream’ she muttered, sluggishly sitting up.
Ophelia turned her gaze to her roommate, Janet, who walked into her room and had disrupted the most amazing dream she has had in days.
“What is so important that you couldn’t wait for an hour before calling out my name?” Ophelia asked, running her hand through her hair.
Janet pointed at the clock on the bedside table. “Its past eight, Ophelia, you said you have an interview and I should wake you up.”
Ophelia’s head shot sideway to the clock and her eyes dilated. “s**t! I’m late.” She jerked out of the bed, and she made it to the shared bathroom.
“Your alarm went off an hour ago, why didn’t you wake up?” Janet said, placing Ophelia’s towel by the door since she had forgotten to grab it on her way in.
“I was having the best dream ever!” Ophelia called out from the bathroom, turning on the shower faucet.
“Now I’m curious, what was it about?” Janet asked, leaning by the door with crossed arms.
Ophelia had a quick shower and grabbed the towel. She wrapped it over her body and stepped out. “I dreamt about my wedding, I was getting married to Vincent and we were about to kiss before you called out my name.” she pat her wet hair dry but paused when Janet was unreasonable quiet.
“It felt real, Janet, I have a feeling Vincent would propose to me soon.” Ophelia continued, taking the outfit she had prepared last night for the interview from her closet.
Janet smacked her lips. “Well, you have both been in a relationship for three years now, Ophelia, why dream about marriage when he haven’t told you anything about it?” she strolled to her desk.
Ophelia’s eyes narrowed. “That’s why it’s a good dream, Janet, this is a sign, it would happen soon, and you will be my chief bridesmaid.” She dressed up and stood by the full length mirror smiling at her reflection.
“The wedding dressed looked so good on me in my dreams,” she beamed. “And Vincent looked devastatingly handsome standing next to me in his tuxedo.” She placed her hand on chest to feel her racing heart. “I have a good feeling about it. Today will be a great day.” She chuckled.
Janet glanced at Ophelia. She let out a sharp sigh and stepped closer. “How about focusing on getting a job first Ophelia?” she said. “You’ve lost three jobs in less than two months.”
Ophelia let out an exasperating sigh. “It’s not like it’s my fault,” she faced Janet. “The companies were a sinking ship, and the last one went bankrupt.”
“Well, you should focus on getting this one, this is a renowned company, it won’t go bankrupt. Why don’t you put your focus on it, than a dream that might not come to reality?” Janet said, adjusting Ophelia’s blouse.
Ophelia’s brows creased. “Do you hate Vincent?”
“What?” Janet blinked, taken aback by the sudden question. “No.” She frowned. “Why would you say that?” she averted her gaze and walked toward the kitchen.
Ophelia shrugged. “I don’t know. It seems you don’t like hearing me talk about him.” she picked up her handbag and file.
“What are you saying?” Janet passed her a glass of coffee and toasted bread. “I can’t control who you fall in love with. Eat this and leave quickly, you’re already late.”
“Thanks.” Ophelia sipped some coffee and took a little bite from the bread before setting it down. “I’ll be back with some good news.” She winked at her.
“I wish you luck.” Janet called out as Ophelia left the apartment. “s**t!” Janet ran her hand through her hair and quickly reached for her phone. She immediately typed a message and hit send.
Ophelia rushed out of the taxi she had boarded to the company, they had been stuck in traffic for ten minutes, making her five minute late for the interview.
She hurried down the lobby toward the receptionist desk. “I’m Ophelia Parker, and I’m here for the interview.” She called out and the blonde lady behind the desk looked up.
“They will see you now in conference room 4. Take the elevator by the coffee bar to the fourth floor. Turn left…”
“Thank you.” Ophelia said and rushed off before the receptionist could finish.
Just as she took the left and round up the corridor close to the elevator, she bumped into something hard, taking whoever she bumped into with her as they crashed to the floor.
Ophelia eye’s fluttered open and her pupils dilated when she realized her lips were locked with the stranger’s lips she had just stumbled down with.
What the heck!
