Chapter1
I lay on the hospital bed. “Mrs. Parker, you are not fit to give more blood in this state, you need care and attention now,” The doctor said, checking my pulse. "What do you mean?" I asked, my voice shaking. "You are pregnant, and if you keep giving Miss Cassandra your blood, you might lose your child," he explained. I placed my hands on my stomach, feeling a surge of love and protection for my unborn child. "Thank you, doctor," I said, trying to process the news. I stood up and went to Cassandra's room, determined to confront her and Liam. When I entered the room, I saw Liam holding Cassandra's hand, and my heart twisted with anger and hurt. "Michelle, thank you," Cassandra's voice took me out of my thoughts. I went closer to both of them, my eyes fixed on Liam's expression. "Liam, I am not giving my blood to her," I said firmly. "What do you mean you're not giving her your blood?" he clenched his fist, his eyes flashing with anger. "The doctor said I am not fit to give out more blood to Cassandra," I explained, trying to reason with him. But Liam wasn't having it. "The only life at risk is Cassandra's life," he yelled, his voice echoing in the room. "My life is at stake, Liam, a life is at stake, and you can get her a donor, but I won't give her my blood," I tried to explain, but he wasn't listening. He pushed me against the wall, his hand gripping my arm tightly. "You will give Cassandra the blood she needs, or you forget being my wife," he growled, his eyes blazing with fury. “I was surprised, but I expected it. “Because I refuse to give Cassandra my blood? It is my blood, Liam, I choose who I give it to.” “Cassandra needs your blood, and you will give it to her now” he growled. I felt unmoved by him, my heart hardened by his cruelty. "Alright, let's get the divorce," I said, my voice firm. "What?" Cassandra gasped, her eyes wide with shock. “I said I wanted the divorce”, I repeated and Liam left my arm. He put a distance between us and I left the room. I left the room, took a cab, and went back to the house. I stripped off my clothes and went into the shower, crying my eyes out. I have sacrificed three years of my life for Liam. Am I ready to throw it all away for the baby in my womb? I didn't know how many hours I spent in the bathroom until I heard a loud slam on the door. I wrapped a towel around myself and went to check what it was. Liam came in, looking deranged and drunk. "Woman," he stormed to me and held my neck. "Liam," I cried out in pain. "You came into my life and changed everything. You forced yourself on me." Tears flooded my eyes as I shook my head. "Liam, please." He let out a menacing laugh and started clapping. I massaged my neck and moved further from him. He stopped and looked at me with something in his eyes. "Are you trying to seduce me again like you did the last time?" My eyes widened in shock. Did he remember that night? He was drunk and wasn't in his mind. "No, I-I was in the shower." He kept taking predatory steps towards me until he had me on the wall. "You disgust me." I tried to push him away, but he was strong. "You want the divorce, right? Here I have it." He threw the papers at me and stepped back from me. I looked at the papers on the floor. "Sign them and get out of my life." He stormed upstairs. With shaking hands, I held the papers and cried. No, this can't be happening. I have sacrificed a lot for this. The divorce papers stared at me, hitting me hard. I have tried to make him love me. I have tried everything, even seduced him. I cried my eyes out until I couldn't anymore. I am not giving up easily. He was about to develop feelings for me until Cassandra came and ruined everything. When I returned to the room, he was asleep. I left the room to go to the guest room to sleep for the night. The next morning, I heard Liam talking on the phone and by his response I knew it was Cassandra on the phone. "She doesn't have the mind to leave me. She will give you her blood today,” Liam said. I stopped and left the door handle. "Cassandra, don't worry. I will do anything for you, even if it means forcing Michelle." I went to the kitchen to make breakfast. "Have you signed the divorce papers?" Liam was dressed for work already. I shook my head. "I made breakfast." I pointed to the dining table. "Where are the papers?" He demanded. "Why do you hate me so much? Am I not beautiful for you?" "You want to know?" I nodded my head. "You disgust me. You are an ugly duckling who forced herself on me." Tears rolled down my eyes. "Why? Why can you see that Cassandra is also pretending?" I shouted after him as he was about to leave the door. "She saved my life, and I am indebted to her for life." I saved your life, Liam, I was there that night, I was the one who rescued you. I wanted to shout after him, but who was I kidding? He would never believe anything I said. My phone went off, and Cassandra's name flashed on my screen. "Michelle dear, how are you doing?" she asked when I picked up her call. "Drop the act, Cassandra. I'm sure you didn't call to ask about me," I snapped at her. "Why are you so harsh this morning? Did you argue with Liam this morning?" She said in a concerned voice. That would mean something if Liam was with her. The thought of that made my heart sink, and tears welled up behind my eyes. "What do you want, Cassandra?" I asked, blinking back the tears. "Liam told me you're going to give me your blood, and I want to—" a new voice interrupted hers. "Where is your bag?" "Check the bathroom," Cassandra replied. "Uhh, sorry about that. Liam came to the—" I ended the call and let out the tears I was trying to control. I tried, I tried, but Cassandra won. She won. I dressed and took a cab to the hospital. "Michelle, you're here?" I ignored and asked, "Where is Liam?" "Have you come to tell me you've changed your mind?" He came out of the bathroom. I looked at both of them, and her smile was one of victory. "I came to tell you my decision." I stretched the file I was holding to him. He took it, and his eyes widened as he read the contents. "You can't do this, Michelle," he said, his voice shaking with anger. "I can, and I will," I replied, my voice firm. "You'll regret this," he spat, but I just turned and walked away, leaving him and Cassandra behind. As I walked out of the hospital, I felt a sense of freedom wash over me. I had finally taken control of my life, and I was ready to move on from the toxic relationship that had consumed me for so long. I was ready to focus on my baby and my own happiness, and I knew that I would never let anyone bring me down again.
