Heather's pov
I released my breath as I saw Mr. Klein behind me smiled, "Mr. Klein, good morning, I hope I'm not late."
"No, Miss Morgan, you're right on time," he replied, leading the way to the conference room.
The room was big with a long table and chairs by the side. The chairs were occupied except for three.
I and Mr. Klein occupied the two seats, and one was left. A man started the meeting, showing a series of charts and pictures on the screen.
I listened rapidly, trying to catch up with the man's work. Even though it wasn't fully detailed, I understood each message he was trying to get across.
"Thank you, Mr. Chuks," I said, standing up. "I understand what you've shown us today, and I'd like to call another meeting to come up with a conclusion with the rest of the team."
I paused and looked at every face in the room. Their faces held curiosity, and I knew I had them right where I needed them.
I knew coming back was for good, so I asked the company I worked for to transfer me to New York. I watched as they all contributed to it, and looked at Mr. Klein to make the final decision.
"I would like to come to a final decision at our next meeting," he stood up and stretched his hand for a handshake. "It was nice meeting you, Miss Morgan."
I returned a smile and exchanged pleasantries with others before leaving. The fragrance I smelled in the elevator kept worrying me.
I thought he would be the last person to show up for the meeting, but he did show up. I was the one who got that fragrance for him. I got it on his last birthday with me...
I could remember the excitement I felt of gifting him, I was happy to start a fresh chapter of our lives, and I got the room decorated in red and white petals and prepared his favorite food with his best wine. I put in a lot of effort that night hoping for a fresh start with him.
I scoffed when I remembered how I was excited about and did everything to please him.
But I wasn't able to, I was called to the hospital that very night, the same night everything went down the hill.
I heard a loud horn and I jotted back to reality. I was walking in the middle of the road. I ran out of the road and walked fast ignoring the screams and curses thrown at me by the driver.
The perfume fragrance brought back the memory and I shut it out.
I got some food and went home to the boys
When I arrived home, my boys greeted me with excitement. "Mum!" they exclaimed, rushing to hug me. "How was your day, mummy?" Adrian asked, helping me with my bag. Alfred brought me a glass of juice, and I felt grateful for their kind gestures.
My heart melted at their kind gesture, I can't imagine my life without them.
"Why are you smiling, mum?" Adrain asked, looking at me curiously
"I love you so much" I caressed them and I heard a cough.
"You are welcome, Miss Morgan '' the middle-aged woman who offered to watch the boys stood by the door.
"I am sorry, I didn't notice you were still here" I apologized, I completely forgot about her, I thought she left already. "I couldn't leave the children like that, it was fun watching over them"
I looked at the boys and saw them smiling. That was unusual. The boys are mischievous, I thought the old woman would have gotten tired and left them.
"Thank you for taking care of them" she waved me off. "It was nice learning from the kids, I learned how to switch on a laptop and also how to say thank you in Spanish"
I looked at the kids. "Wow, that is so thoughtful of them"
I made sure they both learned French, Spanish, Italian, and Swedish. At first, I thought it was much for them at first but the kids surprised me. They are so smart and they are learning two new languages, Portuguese and German.
"When next you need to leave them, you can bring them over, I would love to have their company" she made me promise her before she left.
You two were good; that was unexpected," I said, removing my shoe. "She was nice, just like Mrs. Hook," Alfred said, and I kissed their heads.
Mrs. Hook was an old woman who babysat them while I worked. She was Swedish. That was how they learned Swedish. "I will make you dinner soon, let me freshen up"
I came down and made dinner, after which we talked about our day and went to bed.
As we got ready for bed, I told them about their new school in New York. "You'll love it there," I said, trying to contain my excitement. But they were hesitant, wanting to spend more time with their great-grandfather, Old Morgan.
"But, mum, we just got here," Alfred said, looking disappointed.
"I know, but you need to go to school and learn new things," I replied, helping them into bed. “It's not like we don't learn new things at home,” Adrain said under his breath and the boy's reaction made me smile.
“Well, I will be busy at work so I want you too to go to school to learn and have fun" I was excited about them going to a new school in New York.
The neighbors told me about a very nice school which I know my boys will love because of their choice of taste.
I tucked them in and kissed them good night.
The next morning, I woke them up early, and they grumbled about going to school. "Come on, boys, get up! You're going to be late," I said, trying to hurry them along.
“Should I take you into the bathroom myself?"
They got up and entered the bathroom. They learned how to bathe themselves. They are growing so fast. I kept their shoes out for them before leaving the room to make their breakfast.
They were done bathing when I returned. "You spend so much time in the bathroom" I helped them to dress and I was dumb stroke by their cuteness. "You look handsome. I messed with their hair and they both grunted.
I love it when they act that way. I find it so cute. I did their hair and took them to the dinning table to eat. I hurriedly did my business and dressed up.
"Drop your plates in the sink and let go," I said, putting on my wristwatch. "You haven't eaten anything yet" Adrain frowned.
"We are running late, I will get something on my way back to work" They went to get my plate and they pushed me on the chair.
"You told us that breakfast is the most important meal of the day unless we get sick" My heart warmed at their gesture and I ate my breakfast.
We were already late but I had no other option than to listen to them.
As we arrived at the school, I was impressed by its grandeur and luxury. "This is a nice school, boys. You'll make new friends here," I said, trying to reassure them.
After dropping them off, I received a call from George, my colleague. "Good morning, sir. I was going to tell you about yesterday's meeting," I said, trying to preempt his questions.
"How did it go?" George asked, his voice firm as always.
"The presentations were good, but I'd like to review everything with our team," I replied, trying to sound professional.
As I walked out of the school, a small body bumped into me, and I caught a little girl from falling, letting my phone fall from my hand.
“Hello dear, you can open your eyes now" Her hands were on her face afraid she was going to fall. "You are safe" I assured her and she removed her hands.
I checked if she had any scratches and she was fine. “Thank you," she said softly, and I smiled, feeling a sense of warmth.
"You are welcome" I trailed when I met her Big brown eyes, and I felt a jolt of recognition. "Those eyes..." I trailed off, feeling a sense of déjà vu.
