Pulling her hand away, Lizzie shook her head and said, “I’ve realized no such thing. Why do you continue to insist we belong together?” He looked puzzled and asked, “You mean you don’t feel anything when we’re near one another?” She frowned as she thought for a moment, then shook her head. “I don’t feel anything different around you than I feel when Deon’s around,” she told him. He frowned at this and looked down at the ground. “This isn’t how she told me it would go,” he muttered. “What was that?” Lizzie asked. “Who told you what?” Shaking his head, he looked at her with a troubled look and said, “Nothing. Never mind. I’m sorry I did this to you.” He turned to walk away, but Lizzie reached out and put her hand on his arm. “Luke, talk to me,” she said. “Tell me what’s going on.”
