As she turned to see Deon, she grinned and said, “You’re the first person not telling me how crappy I look today. Unless, of course, you didn’t get a good look at me before you said that.” He grinned at her, then bent down to kiss her cheek. “You look beautiful, no matter what, Lizzie,” he told her. She grinned up at him and felt her face warming. “Thanks,” she whispered. “Ready to start the day?” he asked, holding his arm out for her to take hold of. Slipping her arm through his, she nodded and said, “Lead the way.” He held out his other arm for Elle, who grinned as she slipped her arm through his, and they walked to homeroom together.
