Chapter 7Marcus’ pov I was excited to see Maddie tonight. Jaylah couldn’t stop talking about her. I didn’t give Jaylah a nap in hopes she would crash early tonight so that Maddie and I could be alone. I have thought a lot about moving on, and I think it’s time. I want to be with a wonderful woman like Maddie. I know she would cherish Jaylah as well as myself. I decided to make my home made Cavatelli which was Jaylah’s favorite. I wanted to show Maddie I was a good cook. I wanted to showcase all my qualities. I know that she is single because as long as I have known her, I have never seen her with anyone. I wondered what her type was. I was deep in thought on whether I was her type or not when the doorbell went off. I went to quickly answer it, but Jaylah beat me to it. She screamed in excitement when she noticed it was Maddie. I smiled at my daughter. I knew Jaylah loved Maddie, and it made me want to be with Maddie even more. I smiled at Maddie and told her to come in. She followed me into the kitchen and Jaylah started to talk her ear off. I pulled the Cavatelli out of the oven, and let it cool off as I got the salad ready. I didn’t even hear her come up behind me. “Do you need any help?” “No, you go relax I’ve got this. Would you like something to drink?” “Water is fine.” I poured her a glass of water then went to finish everything. Once everything was done, I made everyone’s plate then sat down beside Maddie. She just looked up at me and smiled. I could get used to this. Her smile was breath taking. “Everything looks so good Marcus.” “Thank you I hope you enjoy it. It’s Jaylah’s favorite.” She smiled over at Jaylah. Jaylah already had sauce all over her face from chowing down. My daughter didn’t play around when it came to her pasta. She didn’t even stopped to take a breath or wait for us to start eating. I couldn’t help but laugh. “Well if it’s her favorite then I’m sure it will be my favorite as well.” We ate and talked. It felt as of this was meant to be. We felt like a family. This should have scared me, but it didn’t. Instead I embraced this welcome change into my life. This was just what we needed in ours lives. In a way it felt as if Maddie completed us. After we ate Jaylah begged us to watch a movie, and of course we couldn’t say no. Half way through the movie Jaylah crashed. I told Maddie I would be back once I put Jaylah to bed. I was a little nervous now that we would be alone, I didn’t want to mess anything up. Once I got back to Maddie, I asked her if she would like a glass of wine and she said sure. We sat down and at first there was nothing but silence. This was getting really awkward. “Jaylah was really happy to see you. She’s missed you a lot.” “I have missed her as well. Was she the only one that missed me?” I almost chocked on my wine when she asked the question. Was she flirting with me? It’s been so long that I wasn’t sure. I am so out of my league here. “I missed having you around as well.” We both put our glass down and moved closer together. It was now or never. I leaned down and kissed her. Her lips tasted amazing. I felt something I haven’t felt in so long. I felt alive for the first time in years. I wanted Maddie but as I pulled back from our kiss the look on her face didn’t tell me if she wanted me or not.
