Luke POV:
It was strange to not hear from her. She had my number, but still, she hadn't called. My wolf was stirring uncomfortably within me, it was like I was losing control over him the more I was away from Adelaide. I sat up in bed, and brushed my calloused hands over my face. I needed to get out of here. I stood up and didn't even bother with a shirt, I just walked out of my room in my blue checkered pajama pants. I jogged down the stairs, restless to get out when I heard the clearing of a throat. I turned to see her sitting in the lounge, her legs crossed and her hair in a sleek bun. She stood up and walked towards me, in only a way a woman bred to be royalty could. "Audrey," I said, displeased, what brought my stepmother here, I could not understand. "Is the old man dying?" I asked, my voice cold and hard. I saw displeasure cross her face. "Luke, I can see you have not changed a bit, how refreshing." She stared at me with her cold grey eyes like she always did when I was growing up. "The alpha wishes to see you." I scoffed, "he knows he is not my alpha," I said and she snarled at me, "you dare disrespect your alpha, after your omega mother-" My hand reacted and immediately went to strike her across the face, but unfortunately, she caught my wrist. "I could have your head you stupid boy!" She growled, "but the alpha wouldn't let you, would he?" I smirked. She let go of my wrist and smoothed her clothes. "The alpha, has invited you for dinner." She said in a cold voice. I scoffed, "nice. Well, you can relay my answer to him and let yourself out." I turned and left, slamming the door behind me. I shifted into my white wolf and started running. I needed a release. I needed her.
I kept running, my paws barely touching the leaves scattered on the earth. I stopped hard at the river. Across the river was a different territory. I paced by the river, trying to clear my head, but my wolf was restless. It took everything in me to stop him from howling. We both wanted her, but I couldn't force the situation. She wasn't like me. She was raised human, a hunter. The Moon Goddess was funny like that, first she has my father mate with an omega, me being the product of that sordid affair, and then gives me alpha authority over his true borns. The irony of that is almost comical. I shook my head and dug my paws into the dirt. I needed her. I was going crazy without her. I had an idea, but it was dangerous. Life risking dangerous. I was going to find her. I headed back to the house and shifted back into my human form. I was covered in dirt, but it was nothing a shower couldn't fix.
I walked on foot the rest of the way, I needed to appear human if I wanted to find her, and humans were dirty and sweaty, and if that is what I needed to be then so be it. I would stop momentarily, pretending to be out of breath and sticking my thumb out to cars that passed, unfortunately there were none dumb enough to stop. I continued walking, dragging my legs not out of fatigue but rather anxiety. I wish I could just run in and grab her and that would be the end of it, except that would be the end of me. Finally, a car flashed its brights at me, and I wiped the sticky sweat off my forehead to really sell it.
"You're a long way out," said the woman as I got in. I smiled, "I'm writing a book on the less explored places on our continent." She smiled at me, however I had this nagging feeling that she was dangerous. "You should be careful hitchhiking around these areas," she said as she turned into the town, "why? Are there local psychopaths and serial killers worth noting down?" I joked, and she laughed dryly, "Worse, we have wolves." I furrowed my eye brows in fake confusion, "like a protected reserve?" I asked, and I could see her holding an eye roll back, "yes, something like that. Anyway, here you are, you can find accomodation around here, there are a few lodges for tourists, not that we get many." I flashed her a smile, "Thank you miss." I got out, and started walking away. My hands sweaty from the people looking at me, her car didn't move. Instead, I heard her step out of her car. I was done for, I may need to fight my way out of this, and I even knew that it was a losing battle. "Hey!" She shouted, and I turned around, the eyes piercing through my every move, anticipating and waiting. "You forgot your bag," she said and tossed my backpack at me, I caught it clumsily because of my nerves, but she seemed satisified. "See you around." Her eyes never left me, I smiled and waved and then slung my back pack over my shoulders.
