Chapter 2: Rejecting His Mate

"No, no, no!" Nelly cried, her heart hurting as if she was going crazy.

Dan scowled, as he wondered who Nelly was and why she was causing a scene at his birthday party.

The guards rushed to escort Nelly out, to avoid disrupting Dan's birthday party, but Nelly pulled her hands away from their hold, as if it burned her.

She raised her head and looked directly at the stage, and cried out, "Mate!"

Everyone stood frozen. How dare Nelly cause a scene and also declare Dan as her mate.

Dan felt like he was in transition on the stage. As he stood frozen, his blue eyes darkened as he could not believe that Nelly was his mate - a plus-sized girl. No way.

"Dan, what's going on? Is she your mate?" Dan heard his mother ask him first, as she rushed to the stage to meet him.

Dan was holding Elena's hand. He looked at Nelly's face. He didn't know her, but for some odd reason, she resembled Elena, only that she was plus-sized.

"Dan, say something," his mother urged him to speak. And his father, Alpha Michael, came forward to understand what the commotion was all about.

Dan's two siblings, Remy and Rita, were also stunned as they were on the other side of the stage, preparing to watch their older brother cut his cake with his girlfriend, Elena.

Remy wore a black tailored suit, as he was a 21-year-old man, while Rita wore a cream dress as she was a 19-year-old girl who was mated to Leo.

"Dan, say something," his father ordered him to speak, knowing that it was against their pack rule for an alpha to reject his mate.

"Dan, is Nelly your mate?" Elena asked, as she was stunned when she heard Nelly scream out "mate!" And also try to steal everyone's attention.

Elena was aware that she had her father's love and attention more than Nelly, who was overlooked.

Dan's fist clenched as he breathed heavily. He slowly let go of Elena's hand and apologized, "I am sorry."

"No, Dan. You have to reject Nelly! She is an Omega. She cannot be our Luna. Dan, you promised to mark me as your Luna. You promised me. How can she be your mate," Elena cried out, grasping Dan's shirt as she refused to let go of him.

"Silence!" Alpha Michael thundered when the large banquet hall erupted in gossips and loud murmurings.

"Dan cannot reject his mate. This is against the Alpha's principles of the Blue Hills Pack. Young lady, come forward," Alpha Michael said, and everyone turned to look at Nelly.

"Nelly, you have to reject Daniel. You cannot be the Luna. You are an ordinary Omega, and your sister is better off than you," Simon Robinson said. He was Nelly's father, and he was stunned when he discovered that his overlooked daughter was going to be their future Luna.

"Nelly, you cannot be the Luna. Reject Alpha Dan and don't you dare to snatch your sister's boyfriend," Stella growled. She was Nelly's stepmother.

With tears in her eyes, Nelly looked away from her father and stepmother and dragged herself to walk upward on the stage.

Everyone looked at her with disgust.

"How can this fat, ugly, chubby girl become our future Luna? No way! You disgust us. Reject Alpha Daniel!" Everyone cursed at Nelly, and tears welled up in her blue eyes and streamed down her cheeks.

Nelly was aware that she could not disobey Alpha Michael. She wanted to run out of the banquet hall. She did not want to attend the birthday ceremony of Dan Hillary. Only that her father had said that Alpha Michael insisted that everyone should attend the ball, most especially the singles in the pack.

Simon Robinson was hoping that his second daughter, Elena would become the Luna, and he had less hope for Nelly. Who would have thought that Nelly would become the chosen one?

Nelly finally appeared on the stage. Her yellow dress was old-fashioned because her father refused to give her money to purchase new clothes. He overlooked her, if not that Alpha Michael insisted that everyone must attend the birthday celebration, most especially teen girls from age 14 and above.

As Nelly stood on the stage, she could feel the cold glare of Dan directed at her. She had always hoped and prayed that her mate would love her. If only she knew that her mate would reject her with his eyes, even when his lips refused to say the words. His look could kill her at the moment, and her hurt burned from the agony that flowed through her veins.

Dan was yet to cut his birthday cake. He could not believe that he was mated to Nelly. He also found it hard to believe that she was Mr. Simon's daughter. How did she end up looking so chubby? This was the first time Dan had ever seen her, and he had never seen her before, even when he visited Mr. Simon's house. Where did she come from? How could she be his mate? Dan wanted to reject Nelly at the moment, but he knew that he couldn't do that.

Alpha Michael cleared his throat and asked, "Dan, look at me and tell me the truth for the last time before I denounce you as my son. Is this young lady your mate?"
