Alpha Dan's Mate

Chapter 3: His Rejection

Dan pressed his lips into a thin line. He looked downward, wanting to reject Nelly, but he knew the consequences of doing that.

If he dared to reject his mate, his Alpha wolf and strength would leave him. Dan would become weak, broken, and shattered. His eyes turned red, and anger coursed through his veins as silence fell in the large banquet hall.

"Dan..." Alpha Michael asked one last time.

Dan shut his eyes and mumbled, "Yes, father. She is my mate."

"No! You have to reject her!" Elena cried, but Alpha Michael rebuked her, "Silence! Who are you to speak in the presence of the Alpha king?"

Elena shivered in fear, and she pressed her lips together and lowered her head shamefully. She couldn't believe that her older sister, Nelly, whom she had bullied every day, was favored by Alpha Michael.

"Come forward, young lady. What's your name?" Alpha Michael asked Nelly once she approached him.

Everyone in the hall frowned. They had not expected Alpha Michael to accept Nelly as his daughter-in-law. She was plus-sized, even though she was tall. She was too chubby.

"My name is Nelly Robinson. I am sorry, Alpha Michael. I did not mean to cause any trouble. I will accept Alpha Dan's rejection if he doesn't want me," Nelly said, her voice quivering as she lowered her head.

Tears streamed down her cheeks. She never wanted to become mated to her half-sister's boyfriend.

Nelly knew that her father was rich, even though he was an Omega. He was very intelligent, which led him to become a wealthy man. But he was unfaithful to her mother, which led to their separation.

"Dan cannot reject you. If he rejects you, he will never become our Alpha King. He will lose the kingship to his younger brother, Remy. So the choice is his. Daniel, are you going to take Nelly Robinson as your mate?" Alpha Michael asked, as he held Nelly's left hand with care, ready to give her his blessings.

Alpha Michael Hilary was a 50-year-old man. He never looked down on the moon goddess's choices. He believed that the moon goddess didn't make a mistake when she blessed them with a mate bond to keep them stronger. Well, an ordinary werewolf can reject his or her mate, but an Alpha cannot do that.

"Dan, I hope you are aware of the consequences. Not only will you lose the chance to become the next Alpha King, but you will also lose the entire Blue Hills conglomerate to your brother Remy. So make your decision now?" Alpha Michael said, knowing that his first son was stubborn.

"Dad, I do not love her. I do not want a plus-sized woman as my mate," Dan shamelessly said, as he refused to let go of Elena's hand.

"Can I have Elena instead? I will not reject Nelly, but she cannot be my wife. I want Elena here. Please, Dad," Dan begged, as he held Elena to his chest.

Nelly's heart broke. She could not believe that Dan was ready to cause her so much pain and that he wanted to keep her sister by his side and make Elena the Luna of the Blue Hills Pack.

"No!" Alpha Michael rebuked. "I warned you not to be in any serious relationship and to wait until you find your mate. You cannot marry two women, and only your mate is allowed to become the Luna. If you do not want her, you can reject her now."

Dan gulped hard. His Adam's apple bobbed. Tears filled his blue eyes.

Dan didn't want a plus-sized local woman as his mate. His friends would laugh at him. How did he end up here?

"Dan, I will count to three. Do not forget that I am still the Alpha king of this pack. I will not sit back and allow you to destroy our pack and what our ancestors had suffered hard to build over the years. One, two..."

"Fine. Dad. I accept Nelly as my mate," Dan said at last. Anger coursed through him as he glared at Nelly.

"Good," Alpha Michael smiled, his gaze softened as he looked at Nelly. But Elena screamed out, "No!"

Unable to bear the shame, as Elena knew that she had bragged about becoming Alpha Dan's mate, she ran out of the hall, crying, as she ran away.

"Elena!" Dan called out for her, his heart shattered, but he knew that he couldn't go after her.

"Dan, you have to slice your 24th birthday cake with Nelly. She is your mate now, and you should treat her right. Go on and slice the cake together. Your wedding is coming up next week Saturday," Alpha Michael declared in the entire hall, and everyone looked stunned as they had not expected the turn of events.

While some werewolves were happy that there was going to be another party in the royal palace, some others were not pleased to have an Omega like Nelly as their Luna.

"Come on, go on, Nelly and slice Dan's birthday cake with him," Alpha Michael spoke to Nelly softly. He saw that she looked scared and that she was not treated well from whichever family she came from.

Nelly forced her feet to move to meet Dan where he stood on the stage. She knew that he despised her, but she could not disobey his father.

"Delta Conrad, you can continue with the birthday celebration," Alpha Michael returned the microphone to Conrad, who smiled stiffly as he was also shocked by the turn of events.

When Nelly finally approached Dan, she stood like a robot, unable to raise her head and meet his gaze. Even though she was tall and plus-sized, she was still beautiful with lengthy blonde hair and a round face.

Dan grumbled in a low voice, but he did not take Nelly's hand. He did not bother to look at her face as he lowered his head.

"Congratulations, Alpha Daniel Hillary, for finding your mate. You can cut your birthday cake now and make a wish," Conrad said stiffly as he held the microphone firmly.

Dan sliced the cake and made a wish. "I wish to find happiness in this trial period." He turned and walked away from the stage, going back to the Alpha's mansion.
