Chapter 12 — The Company Party
Friday night arrived with Beaumont Enterprises’ annual company celebration.
The ballroom looked stunning.
Crystal lights reflected across black-and-gold decorations while live music echoed softly through the massive room.
Employees dressed elegantly while businessmen and investors filled the space.
When Clara entered wearing a dark emerald dress, conversations noticeably quieted for a second.
Lily grabbed her dramatically. “You look illegal.”
Clara laughed softly. “You’re ridiculous.”
“No seriously. Half the room just forgot how breathing works.”
Unfortunately…
she wasn’t wrong.
Men stared openly.
Women whispered quietly.
And across the ballroom—
Jace Beaumont froze completely.
His eyes locked onto Clara instantly.
The look on his face made her heartbeat stumble.
Pure distraction.
Pure desire.
Pure possession.
Lily noticed immediately. “Oh my God,” she whispered excitedly. “He looks ready to murder every man staring at you.”
Pierce approached moments later wearing an expensive black suit.
“You clean up nicely,” he murmured to Clara.
Before she could answer, Jace suddenly appeared beside them.
The tension between the brothers became immediate.
Pierce smirked slightly. “Relax, brother. I was complimenting her dress, not proposing marriage.”
Jace ignored him completely.
His gaze remained fixed on Clara.
“You’re late.”
Clara blinked. “You sound like an angry husband.”
For the first time all night—
Jace laughed softly.
And somehow that was even more dangerous.
