A searing heat wrapping around her ankles and wrists in a tight vice woke Charlie from a deep sleep. Her body felt stiff, every muscle and bone creaking as she flinched awake, reluctant to move. Whether it was her instinct or a coincidence, staying still was a good choice that she realised as voices began reaching her through the fog of her mind. They were hushed but forced in a quiet argument between who she presumed were her captors, but she didn’t want to peak to check and risk being seen as awake.
