CHAPTER EIGHT Eva poked her head over Rick's shoulder hoping to see something magical. No such luck. Instead, she was led onto the ground floor of a very busy office. Two banks of desks, four deep, faced an enormous map of the world overlain with wind patterns and other meteorological data. In the middle of the desks was a large meeting desk, evidently hewn from a single piece of wood. To her right were banks of television screens showing satellite footage. Small windows in the opposite wall provided most of the lighting. The room reeked of unwashed bodies and office furniture.
