Avalynn's POV
Since I discovered that Steven would marry someone like Veronica, I couldn't stop getting disgusted that I even kissed him the last time I saw him. Maybe, Steven said those words to me so he could play and sleep with me as long as he wanted. s**t! The more I think about Steven, the more I feel agitated.
I was hoping that a man named Steven wasn't the father of my children. And I don't have any plans to see this man again– no, I wished our paths wouldn't be crossed again! I don't know what I should do if I meet him again unintentionally.
“Mom, what are you thinking? I noticed that you kept frowning as if you were thinking some ugly things in your mind.” I blinked my eyes when Annabelle asked me and held my hand. I didn't know that Adam and Annabelle were checking on me.
I glanced at Adam and Annabelle, and I saw them looking at me with worry in their eyes. My heart fluttered when I saw how concerned they were about me.
My breath was heavy when I held Adam and Annabelle in their hands. I pulled them into the living room and told them to sit on the couch.
“I'm wondering if you two really wanted to find your father. I mean, it's fine if you two will be honest with me.” After I spoke those words, I saw Adam and Annabelle looking at each other. It looked like they were talking using their eyes.
Are they afraid that I will be affected by whatever they might answer me? Do they think their answers might affect me and make me sad?
“Mom, it doesn't matter if we want to know or not if he's our father, right? If Steven is our biological father, is it terrible that he will marry Veronica more than you? If he married her, she would be our stepmother, and I didn't like the idea of making her my stepmother.” Adam answered, which made my heart feel terrible. I held Adam and Annabelle's hands again.
“Adam, Annabelle, I will not stop you two if you really want to find your biological father. But as you can see, Steven is your true father, and he is getting married now. We have no right to stop him from marrying Veronica.” I softly explained to them.
“It was an accident that I gave birth to you, but you two are the blessings I have ever received. We don't even know Steven's character. I remember that the Muller family is a big wealthy family, but there are strict. If you two are the children of Steven and his family, I found out about it. They will take you away from me, and there's a big chance that I may never see you two again.” After I spoke those words, I saw Adam and Annabelle's face turn pale.
“N..No! Mom, I don't want to leave you. If Steven is my father, and they will take us away from you, then I do not don't want to have a father anymore.” I was stunned when Annabelle screamed and rushed to hug me. Annabelle cried so hard while she was giving me a tight embrace. My tears formed in my eyes, and when I glimpsed at Adam, he looked like he was depressed.
Adam was watching Annabelle crying before he said, “I think I can't do anything now, Mom. You're the one who is important to us, but is it okay if I still want to know if Steven is our father? We both have the same face, and I promised I only wanted to know.” Adam mumbled, which made me nod to him. Adam was always self-reliant. In fact, I want to know, too, if Steven was related to them.
I nodded to Adam while I was caressing Annabelle's head. He was right.
“Adam, you are such a great hacker, and with your skills, I think you can contact Joseph secretly without leaving a trace so that he can locate you. I don't want him to know whoever you are. You should ask for his hair or saliva for a paternity test.” After I told Adam those words, Adam's faces enlightened, and his eyes sparkled.
“Mommy, I already have an idea!” Adam exclaimed, which made Annabelle look at Adam with curiosity. I know that Annabelle was brilliant, and she didn't need to ask many questions, and Adam had a lot of ways.
Narrator's POV
In the Muller Hospital, Steven was sitting inside the room of a woman who was in her fifties. Layla, Steven's mother, was lying next to him in the hospital bed. She was a thing, and there was no color of her skin.
Steven was looking for his mother, and he was watching her like a hawk, for he was so afraid that something terrible might happen if he looked away.
Since Steven's father divorced her mother and left the Muller family, Layla became depressed and wild for over ten years.
In the past two years, Steven found out that her mother had something wrong in her heart. Steven always knew that Layla was suffering silently. And it looked like Layla didn't have a chance to heal too fast.
“Steven, stop worrying me. The doctor said to me that as long as Klaus will do the operation, Auntie Layla will heal slowly.” Jacob let out and stood beside Steven. Jacob wanted to comfort Steven so he would be stopped stressing himself.
Steven smiled faintly. His eyes were dull when he looked at Jacob.
“I already know about that, but I can't stop myself from feeling agony for my mother because she has always been unhappy because of my father's affair. She may be thinking that there's no chance for her, and that's why she is too bitter in her life.” Steven explained and hardly breathed when he glanced at Layla again.
Jacob sighed because he couldn't stop himself from worrying about Steven. What happened to Steven's parents was a foolish arrangement.
“I think Auntie will be fine after the heart operation. She will finally be happy and forget about your father.” Jacob commented as he tapped Steven's shoulder.
However, Steven's phone vibrated, and a text message was in the inbox. Steven peeked at Jacob, who was still standing beside him.
“Let's go to the living room. So you can have some rest, too.” Steven went to the living room part of the hospital's room and sat on the couch. Jacob followed him and did the same.
Steven finally opened the strange message to read the statement. His forehead slowly creased when he read the news.
‘Steven, I'm five years old. We looked like each other, and I think I relate to you. Can I ask you a favor to do the paternity test?’
Steven couldn't believe what he had read and looked at the number who had texted him. Instead of getting angry, he laughed so hard. He was amused that someone had dared to ask for a paternity test on him. He was sure that whoever messaged him was a simple liar.
“You looked so happy. Why are you laughing? Wait, did your fiancé send you some naughty or sweet message? I saw the news that your wedding is so near this morning.” Jacob chuckled jokingly, wildly when Steven shook his head as if he denied that he was happy because of Veronica.
When Steven heard the news, he couldn't believe that Veronica would agree to marry him. He wondered if Veronica had been forced by her parents to marry him.
But even though Veronica decided to stop the upcoming wedding, he would do anything not to let her go.
What happened between them was merely an accident. Still, after Steven sees Veronica for the second time, Steven finally feels that he would do everything to marry Veronica and live with her under one roof.
“It wasn't Veronica who messaged me. It looks like someone is trying to deceive me with their lies.” Steven informed Jacob, but after he said those words, he received another message. It was a picture, and it was the five-year-old who claimed that they were related.
The picture was downloaded automatically from his phone storage, and Steven looked at the image to see what it was. Steven's mouth hung open when he saw the little boy's face.
The boy who had been messaging him was too similar to his face. He was almost identical to his childhood photos.
Steven felt surprised and didn't know what he was about to say!
