Prologue
Mallory stumbled out of the club. The colorful lights blurred together as she tried not to bump into the dancing crowd. Something felt wrong inside her.
She tried to remember the drink she had earlier. It was just a few sips of a fruity cocktail. It shouldn’t have made her feel like this. But now her head was spinning, and her body tingled in a strange, unfamiliar way.
On her way home, she tried to calm her racing heart. A worrying thought kept whispering that her small act of rebellion was a bad idea.
Her sixteenth birthday was coming soon, and she had wanted to feel wild and free for once. So she sneaked out of the house after her aunty, Grace, left for work at the brothel.
Two days earlier, Mallory had overheard a neighbor talking about the party. After thinking it over carefully, she decided to go. The strip club was only a few blocks from her house, making it easy to slip in and out without being noticed.
She'd faked her age and ID, smiling with excitement as she lied her way past the bouncers. She hadn’t also told Lucien because he could be too protective sometimes and would probably talk her out of it.
But now, with this strange heat between her thighs and her skin feeling hot and sensitive, she realized her decision might not have been the best one.
The urge to touch herself grew stronger, but she resisted. She had never done anything like that before.
She glanced back, unable to shake the feeling that someone was following her.
Mallory quickened her pace, almost jogging even though her legs felt heavy. She kept looking over her shoulder and breathing deeply, hoping it would clear her head. At least it helped her heart keep beating fast.
“I have to get home before Grace returns,” she reminded herself. “Or I’ll be in bigger trouble.” More than that, she needed to get home safely.
As her fear grew and the sound of footsteps behind her got louder, a sudden idea came to her.
She pulled out her phone to call Lucien. Maybe hearing his voice would make her feel safer. Even if it also made her feel hornier. She pushed that thought away.
Mallory had barely started dialing when she crashed into something hard — a man’s chest. The impact sent her stumbling backward. Because of the heels she was wearing, she fell hard to the ground, and her phone flew out of her hand.
She gasped when she looked up and locked eyes with a pair of dangerous eyes staring down at her.
Scrambling backward on her hands and butt, she tried to create some distance.
“Who are you?” Mallory asked, her voice shaking. Her heart pounded even more loudly.
The bright orange glow of the stranger’s cigarette lit up his hard, menacing face with every puff.
“A beautiful girl like you, alone in the dark. That’s brave,” the man said. He bent down and blew cigarette smoke directly into her face.
Mallory choked and coughed.
A cruel smirk spread across his lips as hungry, evil eyes looked her over.
He took a slow step closer, watching her like a cat ready to pounce on a mouse.
Mallory wanted to look away but couldn’t. Fear kept her frozen. She forced herself to stand up, but then she saw two other men behind her.
That was when she realized — she was completely surrounded.
“Who are you guys? Please leave me alone. I don’t want any trouble,” she begged. She tried to sound brave, but her voice gave away her fear.
The big man with the cigarette laughed. “Don’t worry, pretty. We’ll make it quick.”
“And you’ll enjoy every bit of it like a good girl,” another man added from behind her.
Their words sent chills crawling all over her body.
Somehow, her legs started moving. She slipped past them and ran like her life depended on it. But her high heels and the fact that her vision was blurry slowed her down. She didn’t get far before a powerful slap knocked her to the ground.
She saw stars.
A heavy body pressed down on her, pinning her to the floor as she struggled wildly.
“Get off me! Get off me!” she screamed, kicking with all her strength. Two other men grabbed her arms while the one on top tried to unbutton his pants.
She tried to scream again, but a hand covered her mouth.
Pure horror filled her mind at the thought of what was about to happen.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” an angry, icy voice said from the darkness.
The men immediately released Mallory and turned to face the newcomer.
---
“You’re safe now, mi sol. Don’t be afraid.”
Lucien’s voice was soft and soothing as he carried Mallory into his room and gently placed her on the bed. He sat beside her and pulled her into a tight hug, whispering comforting words.
But even with him there, she was far from okay. Her heart still raced, haunted by the terrifying thoughts of what could have happened if Lucien hadn’t shown up in time.
She had been too busy fighting her attacker to see how Lucien took down the other two men. She only remembered the big guy falling unconscious after Lucien hit him with a wooden plank.
Lucien was only eighteen, but he was much stronger than most boys his age. His heart had been filled with dread when he answered her call and heard strange voices in the background. He had tracked her down immediately.
He couldn’t even bring himself to say what they had almost done to her. He was just grateful she always listened to him and kept her location on. He had left the attackers badly hurt, but he needed to take care of Mallory first. Her endless tears felt like needles in his heart.
Now he wished he could go back and finish them off — slowly and painfully.
As the adrenaline faded, the strange tingling between Mallory’s legs grew stronger again. The danger had distracted her for a while, but now the feeling was taking over.
She leaned in and pressed her lips to Lucien’s neck, kissing along his jawline.
Lucien’s eyes widened in shock. “Are you okay, Mi cariño?” His voice came out low and husky.
Mallory had always loved when he called her that, and now it was like fuel to her sinful desires.
Lucien's body tensed as Mallory pressed herself harder against him. He could feel his body reacting to her, awakening feelings he'd always tried to bury.
“I want you, Lucien,” Mallory whispered, suddenly straddling him. Those words tested every bit of his self-control.
Mallory could feel his hardness growing beneath her. And that realization that Lucien wanted her even though he was trying really hard not to show it, made her mad with need.
“I don’t know what they put in my drink, but please… I need you.” She cupped his face and began grinding herself against him.
“Mallory… wait,” Lucien said, painfully, gripping her hips to stop her. “I think your drink was spiked with an aphrodisiac.”
The words barely made any difference to Mallory. She stared at the hunger in his beautiful amber eyes. It was different from the evil look the other men had given her. This hunger made her heart race for a completely different reason.
Mallory lifted herself and moved on top of him again. Lucien’s eyes closed for a moment before he forced them open again.
“We can try other ways,” he suggested, his voice strained. “A cold bath, or I could use my fingers. You're not in your right mind, Mal. I can't let you do something you'll regret after."
Something he'd regret.
“No, I don’t want a bath. I want you to take all of me, Lucien,” she whispered slowly, nibbling on his earlobe. "Please, don't say no."
Fuck—
Lucien shuddered, his fist clenching. He wanted her badly too—always have—but this moment felt wrong. Just as refusing her.
But if she came to look at him differently by morning, it would kill him.
This wasn’t the real Mallory. She would never throw herself at anyone like this.
He had to stop—
Mallory leaned in and claimed his lips in a fierce kiss that instantly wiped his thoughts and made him forget every forbidden line he'd sworn never to cross.
