AUSTIN'S POV
I was scared at first, thinking something bad had happened but I braved myself and I looked around me to see why she was so scared only to see a man smooching a lady behind me and I frowned.
"I know we are free to do whatever we want with our life but isn't this improper?" I asked myself inwardly and shook my head.
But then... Why did Lucy freeze?
Ah! Is the man her... Oh, No!
I was about to open my mouth to talk when Lucy grabbed my hand and pulled me to a corner. "What's this?" I asked, not feeling too impressed by her sudden change of action.
"That... That punk out there is Jeanette's past lover who left her on her wedding day!" She explained, gritting her teeth.
I furrowed my brows. I looked back to see the man who continued to kiss the lady as if his life depended on the kiss and I frowned deeply. "You mean that low-life scum bag is the man that ran away? The coward who couldn't finish what he started?" I asked, feeling very annoyed.
Looking at him, I realized Jeanette was the one who made a mistake. I saw nothing attractive about the guy at all and it made me wonder what a pretty, endowed, and well-mannered lady like Jeanette was doing with someone like him!
Heck! He wasn't supposed to be able to even speak to her at all!
That was how far away he was from the high Jeanette but he still misused that opportunity.
"I can't believe he has the gut to bring a lady here just a few days after he ran away from his wedding and when he knows I'm here? He is intentionally doing this to hurt Jeanette and it makes me want to pop his brain!" Lucy mumbled, pretty angry.
It was obvious her blood was boiling hard!
I calmed myself and cleared my throat "Can you tell me where I can meet her? I need to talk to her." I pleaded with her and she finally had my time again.
"I can't tell you where she lives nor can I give you her number but I can tell you where she works. You might be lucky enough to meet her there today." She replied.
I agreed with her and she told me her working place which I immediately drove down to.
Luckily for me, she was right in front of the company when I reached there and I parked in front of her. I alighted from my car and walked over to her. "Hey, lady! Do you recognize this pretty face?" I asked cheerfully, attracting her attention.
She looked at me and frowned. "You..."
No, Don't tell me she forgot about me.
"Austin, right?" She asked and I rejoiced inwardly!
It would have been bad for my weak heart if she had forgotten about me when I still remembered her vividly!
But... Sincerely, she looked even prettier in an official dress... I couldn't take my eyes off her for seconds.
She walked closer to me and smiled. "You ain't so easy to forget, you know that, right?" She asked coyly and I chuckled.
"Of course! These good looks of mine can never be underrated!" I replied, intentionally being narcissistic.
She rolled her eyes and giggled. "Yeah, right." She replied.
"Come inside the car. I've got something interesting to tell you." I proposed and she frowned.
"Don't tell me our meeting isn't a coincidence..." She was quite confused.
"Ah... Yeah... I was looking for you and I was lucky enough to find you. Does that explain enough?" I asked and she sighed.
"Let's hear you out then."
We both entered the car and I drove away from her company to avoid any unfavorable rumor about us and I could see the pleased smile on her face which pleased me too.
"So, get to the point. I've got to meet my mum soon." She said immediately I stopped the car.
I nodded. Thinking about the plan was easy but bringing myself to tell her seemed to be the hardest thing of my life. My heart started racing and I was hesitating.
"The thing is... Remember I told you about my dad threatening me to bring home a wife to claim the company..." I mumbled and she nodded her head.
"So, I've thought about it and I came to this conclusion," I added.
"What's the conclusion and what has it got to do with me?" She asked, still confused.
I cleared my throat again and braved myself~ "I was thinking that... I mean, Can you enter a contractual marriage with me? I promise we will both gain..."
"Shut up! Shut that trap up!" Jeanette yelled as her eyes darkened.
She looked at me like I was the biggest fool ever and hissed loudly. "And here I am, thinking you're a wise and responsible person not knowing you're just a complete nitwit." She muttered and opened the car door. "If you ever look for me again, I will make sure to get you arrested! You lunatic!" She cussed before walking out on me.
I tried calling her back but it was all futile ~ "Argh! I knew this won't be so easy!" I groaned with frustration.
$$$$$$$$
I continued to pester her every chance I got for the complete two weeks. She would insult me, report me to her company's security, she even threatened me but I was persistent.
I had the feeling she was the only one that could do the job well and for some reason, her refusal made me anxious.
Although I knew it might be impossible to convince her, I still wanted to give it my best~
"Jeanette, I've been pleading with you for the past week... Why are you doing this? Don't you think it's the right time you give me a positive reply?" I asked, trying to blackmail her emotionally.
She looked at me and sighed. "A contractual marriage huh? How about we give it a try?"
The Heck?!
