Chapter 3

723 Words
I slowly opened my eyes to adapt to the bright light, how am I still alive? I thought I died back there. I felt something soft rubbing against my back, where am I? I heard the sound of the door opening, I turned to see who it was. “You’re awake” a masculine voice came from the entrance. “Who are you?” I asked as I tried to get up from the bed I was lying on. Ahhhh!!! My head hurts a lot “Knowing who I am won’t do you any good, you’re going to tell me what happened that day and everyone behind it” he said in a scary tone. I had never seen him before, what does he wants from me? “What are you talking about and what do you want with me?” I asked almost In fear. “Who’s behind my brother’s death?” He asked. Brother? What does he mean? Who’s brother could he be? “Don’t pretend like you don’t understand, the man you were supposed to get married to was murdered right in your kingdom” he explained. “We all know how you never wanted to get married to him In the first place but it’s not a good reason for you to plan his death” another strange voice came from another end of the room. I looked around me, it was only then I realized there were more others in the room with me. Prince Adrian died? How? This isn’t how the story was supposed to play. The only one who dies at the end of the story should be me. He was the one who was supposed to sacrifice me and not him dyeing, what’s going on? “Prince Adrian died, how?” I asked in surprise. “Don’t pretend you don’t know, I knew we could have killed her instead” a man in his early thirties said. “It’s obvious she knows nothing” a scary voice came from behind me. I froze in fear, that voice seemed to send a shiver down my spine. I managed to summon the courage to turn back. There he was, the guy I had seen earlier at the wedding, seated on a chair as his fingers fiddle with a knife which seemed to be ancient. The whole room was now silent, from the looks on their face I could tell the kind of person he was. “He was your brother Akira, he was our brother, he’s death must be avenged, I wouldn’t let his killer roam this realm or even another freely” the first guy spoke. He seemed to be the youngest among them all, he should be in his earliest twenties same age grade with me. All eyes turned to him, from the look they had on their faces, he shouldn’t have spoken a word. Akira stood up from his chair with the knife in his hands and walked towards the center of the room. I could see the scared look on the youngest one’s face. He slowly walked towards the center and then stopped in front of me. He bent down, his face was in front of mine as we stared eye to eye. He slowly traced the knife down my throat to my chest and then stopped. He brought his face closer, his lips against my ears. “You run, you die” he whispered into my ears. A shiver ran down my spine. He brought his face back to stare into my eyes, his once blue eyes were as red as blood. “From now on, you’ll help me find my brother’s killer” he said. He then removed the knife from my chest and stood up. He walked out of the room without saying another word. The whole place remained quiet as they all began to leave one after the other, soon I was all alone in the room. I was so scared. For once in my life I got to live a life where I do not know what would happen next, where I will always live in suspense and fear for my life. Why do I feel like this wouldn’t be any different cause I’ll still end up dyeing here? I’ve never felt this scared in my entire life.
