CHAPTER 3

Alice woke up, but she couldn’t fathom where she was. She looked around the average-sized room with a luxurious painting of wolves on the wall. A few moments later, the door clicked open, and she charged forward towards whoever was coming in, and a male voice roared so loudly that his voice echoed through the room. His eyes instantly turned golden brown, but his gaze was dark and intense as she felt a shiver run down her spine. Alice was enchanted by the man before her. He was huge, with a masculine body and chiselled chest. His eyes returned to their natural, expressive sky blue colour that could pull any woman off her feet. Her eyes were still locked with his; she was drawn to him. It felt like she had known him all her life, yet she was so sure she had never seen that face before. Slowly, she drifted backwards and shrieked to a corner. He was not her Alpha, but Alice felt strange that his voice had the same authority as that of her Alpha. “How dare you be so violent to the same people who saved your life?” He roared at her. “What?” “You were attacked by the wolf hunters; do you remember? His gaze pinned her. “Yes, I do... . You murdered those hunters?” “Yes, you were badly injured. One of the wolves also injected you with wolfsbane. Our nurse here was able to treat your wounds and neutralise the poison. We are not the enemy, so calm down.” Alice knew he could hear her heartbeat slowly getting calmer as his eyes rested on her. The nurse and another man came into the room. He was also huge, with a broad and chiselled chest, his eyes dark and piercing at her. “How are you feeling?” She nodded in response, trying to adapt to their piercing gaze on her. “I am Alpha Lucien; this is Beta Kai. What pack are you from?” Lucien asked. Alice was hesitant to reveal the name of her pack because the Moonclaw Pack has a lot of enemies. She had only one option in mind- to lie. She paused for a moment before answering, “Bay moon pack." “I am Lucy; what is your name?” “I am Alice. Thank you for your help, Lucy.” “It is my job; why were you in the woods dressed like this?” Their eyes drifted to her dress. Alice totally forgot she still had her ceremony dress on when she flew off. “Today was our mating ceremony at the Baymoon Pack when I decided to come get some air, and that was when I was attacked.” She began to recall the image of her mate on top of her sister, and her chest tightened. “You can freshen up; some neat clothes will be sent over to you while Raven prepares something for you to eat.” Alpha Lucien expressed it coldly while avoiding her gaze. She nodded her head in response, and they slowly departed from the room. Kai and Lucien stood outside the room. “It seems like she is already mated to someone. What are you going to do about it?” Kai asked. “I guess that is my fate—to live without a mate for the rest of my life.” Lucien said. “If she is married to someone, then that means she has already accepted him and she loves him. I won’t stop her from getting happiness where she finds it.” Kai pats his shoulder as a form of consolation, but he groans, and his eyes darken as usual. “Kai! Regarding the attack tomorrow, we will wait and see what happens. Send some men to go count the territory and figure out if there is anything unusual that goes on there.” "Yes, Alpha, I do believe that is a better plan.” Once Alice freshened up and had a change of clothes, she was directed to the dining room by Lucy, where Lucien was waiting for her. “Have a seat”. He ordered, although his voice was calm, it was filled with authority. Alice complies, taking a seat opposite him. A plate of steak and mashed potatoes were presented before her. “If you don’t like the food, I can ask the kitchen to prepare something else for you.” “No, it's fine.” She replied calmly; both of their eyes jammed together, and they maintained eye contact. Alice could feel the tingling sensation in her heart, so drawn to the stranger she could not fathom why. “So you are the Alpha here?” He nodded in reply, his eyes still pinned to her. “Thanks for saving me; I was unusually careless tonight. But trust me, this doesn’t happen often.” “You are Beautiful”. He let the word slip out of his mouth and out of the blue she began choking. “I am sorry, have some water, did I startle you?” “Yes you did. I have a mate already so can you stop flirting with me?” Lucas may have cheated on her but she still loves him. Maybe she was delusional to think he will take her back after the death of her father. A chuckly immediately slipped out of his mouth. “What’s funny?” “If he was your mate then why do you feel this?” His hands slowly trail to hers. Her heart began racing faster than usual, almost startled at the sensation she felt. She drew closer to him, feeling out of breath. His scent filled with cedar and spine. Alice wasn’t sure why she felt like she wanted to kiss him. All her life she thought Lucas was her only love, but she felt strong attraction for the man before her. He also drifted closer to her, his hands slowly cupping her smooth tender face and just then the door clicked open with raven storming in. “Alpha!” She called out “Raven what is it?” His voice was low and dark, clearly annoyed by the interaction. “I was searching for you everywhere, turns out you were here. Was I interrupting?” Raven slides forward towards the table. She turned her head towards Alice and gave her a glare, which was noticed by Alice. Alice suddenly felt unwelcome. “What do you need?” “I just needed to update you on the men on the boundary, it's urgent”.
