Uhm…I think I should get going now” Alice said. She felt heavily embarrassed by the fact that she was almost caught kissing someone we barely knew.
“Right now?” Lucien asked
“Yes…they might be searching everywhere for me now”
“Okay….I should have my men escort you-”
“No! It’s fine”. Despite how shabby the packhouse was compared to what she was used to, she suddenly felt sad leaving the place.
“Thank you Alpha Lucien for your help, your kindness wouldn’t be forgotten” she said while standing up from the chair.
“Goodbye.” She waves her hands at him as she strides away.
As soon as she arrived at the Moonclaw pack, the first sight she met was Lucas at the entrance of the pack.
“What are you doing here?” She asked. She was getting irritated as he was the last person she wanted to see.
“Alice you got us all worried, we’ve been searching for you the entire night”
Alice laughed dryly “I wasn’t expecting you of all people to search for me. I thought you would be busy consoling my sister”
“Alice, I want to apologize for what happened. I wasn’t in the right state of mind. Stella seduced me and i just couldn’t resist, I still want to be with you.”
“You must be delusional and o think I would still proceed with the marriage after what I witnessed yesterday. You chose to cheat with my sister of all people,!”
“YOU ARE NOT GOING TO SPEAK TO ME THAT WAY! I AM YOUR ALPHA!” Lucas roared, and his nostrils flared. Alice was shocked by his outburst. She had never see him that way before, it was like he was a totally different person.
Lucas looked at her with his eyes wide in surprise. She didn’t give him a chance to say anything before walking to her room and banging the door. She just wanted to be alone.
Alice heard a knock and the door to her room slid open. Lily, her best friend, took a peek before stepping in.
Lily is an omega in the Moonclaw pack. Her parents were killed by wolf hunters when she was young and since then she’s been living with Alice. She is petite with dark brown hair and brown eyes.
“I heard what happened to the Alpha. I rushed down here immediately but when I got here you were nowhere to be found” Lily explains.
Without saying a word Alice pulled her into a tight hug. Tears rolled down her cheeks and she couldn’t hold her sobs. “I’m sorry,” Lily said.
“It’s fine, it's not your fault. It's those bloody rogues”. Alice sniffed. She finally felt calm as she was in the presence of someone who cared about her.
“So tell me, where did you run off to last night”
Alice took a deep breath before answering. “I felt horrible yesterday after I caught Beta Lucas in bed with Stella and then-“
“What! Lucas and your sister?! Isn’t he your mate?” Lily exclaimed in shock.
“And not only that, he rejected me and humiliated me in front of her. When I got back he apologized saying she seduced him”
“Your sister’s a b***h, I’m sorry, not sorry. And Lucas? I never thought he was like that” Lily knew how Alice’s sister treated her so she didn’t like stella.
“So back to what I asked, where did you go?”
“I was in the woods and almost got killed by wolf hunters but the Alpha of a small pack saved me”
“I’m so glad to hear that, although I doubt that they would have been able to do anything against you”
“Yeah, I thought the same except when I got injected with a lethal dose of wolfbane”.
Alice replied and pressed her lips into thin lines, her gaze fixed on her reflection in a long-standing mirror. Lily could tell something was wrong and immediately slid next to her.
“What is going on Alice, it looks like you have a lot on your mind”
“I wouldn’t call it a lot, just a person”
“Is it about what transpired between Beta Lucas and Stella?” Lily asked
“No! I have moved past that. It's about that Alpha who saved me, my thoughts are so occupied with him and I don’t know what to do about it”
“And this Alpha, what does he look like?
“He is tall, has broad shoulders, his hair is so shiny and I can’t even begin to describe his face”
Alice had turned all flutter red as she went on describing Lucien’s features to Lily.
“My friend you are in a hot mess because you just fell in love with him”
“What are you saying, that is impossible! Lucas was my mate and you of all people know how much I adored him until this happened. It's just the effect from the heartbreak nothing else”
“If you say so” Lily shrugged. “I have some work to do, I will see you tomorrow when you come for the training”
“Okay, bye” Lily walked out of the room and closed the door.
Alice realized she hadn’t spoken to her mother, Luna athena since the day of the rogue attack. She decided to go see her. She knocked on the door and when she opened she was met with the sight of her mother sitting by the window and staring outside, deep in thought.
“Mom?” She called her. Her mother turned to look at her and the look on her face broke her heart into tiny pieces. She felt tears threatening to fall but she had to stay strong.
Luna Athena, the strongest luna she had ever known. Her eyes were sunken like she had been crying for days.
“Sweetie, where have you been?”
“I needed to clear my head, but I’m back now” Alice responded.
Her mother beckoned for her to take a seat opposite her. “My life was so centered around being the perfect Luna, that I lost the meaning of being a mother,” Alice’s mother said.
“What do you mean Mom? You are a great mother”.
“No, I’m not, whenever I look at you I get reminded of what I did, the curse I laid upon you”
“What do you mean?” Alice furrowed her brows.
“I have a confession to make, Alice. I’m the reason you were born without a wolf” she confessed.
