Chapter 6: Hospitals are quiet places

Kiera Pov “Where is Kymbre?” I asked the nurse at the front desk. “I know her room, remember?” Argus teased before grabbing my shoulder and dragging me behind him. “Hey, Wait Alpha,” The nurse yelled leaning over the counter. “She was moved to room 125. We also need some paperwork filled out for her when someone gets a chance.” Argus told her to send the paperwork to his office and we took off to see my sister. It took longer since I was with the Alpha and the patients wanted to show their respect. I understood why they did that and why Argus showed his respect by paying attention to all of them but all I wanted to do was shove him into the closest closet and lock him in before heading toward my sister. Instead, I just nodded at them all and made sure to walk a bit faster so the guys had to keep up with me. 'She said she needed us. Leave them behind.' My wolf yelled in my head. 'She's in a hospital where she is meant to be safe. She will want to see Argus.' I argued second guessing myself all the way. "…You are a lying b***h….My mate would never touch something as ugly…” was what I heard before we turned down the hallway where my sisters room was. “What is going on?” Alpha Argus asked a panicked nurse standing and watching my sister’s room. “I told her not to go in there. I told her that room was off limits.” She looked between us and the room before running off. I was going to have to talk to her later about a backbone and patient rights. Argus started to ask her something else but I had a feeling who it was. No one else was that outspoken or stupid. No one else would think my sister would willingly touch Bert's slimey ass. “Pl…p..l..ease…” was all I heard before I knew it was my sister and I took on a full on run to her room. Standing at the doorway fighting to get my sisters door open was Bert’s mate, Helga. She was screaming at my sister calling her a w***e, a liar, and all sorts of things I would gladly rip her tongue out for. “Get the hell way from my sister you busted up piece of trash!” I ran into her throwing her onto the floor with a loud thump. “You get near her again or even mention her name and I will rip your pathetic ass to pieces.” I growled lowly and knew how close I was to shifting. She scrambled back up using the handrail on the wall. “Back up, Kiera. I am here for your lying w***e of a sister. My mate would never touch her let alone think of her in that way. How pathetic she needs to lie to get attention.” Her eyes told me she believed Bert and every lying word he must of told her before going in the cell. We should have blocked their link. THWACK. I slapped her hard enough, her head twisted sideways almost causing her to fall. The handrail saved her nasty ass yet again. They were going to have to sanitize the heck out of that thing later. Argus and Trey had caught up with me staying a few feet behind me and made sure to stay out of it. They knew my patience was gone and they were lucky I hadn’t ripped her or Bert to pieces yet. I could hear my sister crying in the room whispering something to herself. She hated violence but I hated seeing someone make her cry even more. “You’re just going to let her hit me like that?” Helga yelled at Argus. He just shrugged his shoulders, which made her even angrier. “My mate has done all the training here for years and no one has beaten him in a fight. You need him more than you need these two pathetic sisters. They couldn’t even keep their parents around to love them.” She threw her hair back over her shoulder and laughed like a hyena causing all of us to cringe. “Leave.” I said my tone ice cold and unlike I had ever heard myself before. “If you don’t I will slit your throat in this very hall way with a smile on my face. You and your mate have hurt my sister for the last time.” “Bullshit.” Her tone lacked conviction. “I will count to three and if you haven’t turned around to leave I will kill you. Last chance.” I felt calm and collected as I issued my warning. It wasn’t even a threat, it was a promise. She gasped looking back at Argus then Trey. “You wouldn’t let…” “One...” I took a step toward her watching her eyes get even bigger and the smell of fear wafted off of her. I was dead f*****g serious, and my wolf was ready to go. “No..NO…She is..” She gulped searching between Argus and Trey thinking they were going to save her. “Two...” Another step. She turned and ran down the hallway yelling some of the most immature things I have ever heard but none of them registered as I did my best to pull back my blood thirsty wolf. We had both wanted her blood spewing all over while watching the light leave her trailer trash eyes but she finally used her last two brain cells to do something smart. I felt a hand on my shoulder and growled falling into a fighting position. Argus walked around to put his face to mine keeping his hand on my shoulder. He pushed his alpha power toward me pushing my wolf into the back of my mind clearing up the red fog I had felt. It took him a bit and some sweat to do so which made the submission easier. “Calm down and then we will go to your sister. She needs you.” He ordered before stepping back. It was like someone had dumped ice cold water on me bringing me back to the reality of what just happened. Helga had started in on my sister and made her feel like her fears were real. No. No.. Where was security when they were supposed to be staying close by. I took a deep breath before putting my hand on the door. I knew she was probably sitting against it or by it and I didn’t want to smash her when I entered. “Kymbre, she is gone. Let us in. I want to help. I need you.” She didn’t reply but she did open the door a crack before retreating to the hospital bed pulling the covers up to her chin and crying harder. I rushed to her and shoved her over so I could lay beside her. I pulled her to me and hugged her as tight as I could. I whispered to her that I loved her and she was the most amazing woman I had ever met. I told her how strong she was, how smart she was, and she deserved so much better. She pulled back from having her head in my throat and smiled sadly up at me. “Kiera, I love you and I love this pack but I need to leave for a bit. I need to get my head on straight and find myself again.” She looked ashamed for even asking. I looked over at Argus and he looked pained. “Can we find another pack for her to visit for a bit? Maybe one with an amazing chef so she can keep learning?” I asked, putting my feelings aside. Mine didn’t matter right now. Hold back the tears, dang it. “I will call around. I am sorry this happened to you, Kymbre.” There was a hitch in the Alphas tone. “I see you girls like my own after my mate passed and everything with your father. I am ashamed I didn’t save you sooner.” Kymbre untangled herself from me and flung herself at him. Thank gosh he had the build of a linebacker, or he would of went down. For a guy pushing 46 he was super strong, fast, and still had a full head of black hair. She had latched onto him like a koala bear, and it made him smile. He really had stepped in like a father for us and I hadn’t thanked him. Without another thought I ran over and hugged him from behind squeezing both of them to me. “Thank you for taking care of us even after our dad went bat s**t crazy,” I whimpered as I remembered the pain from my bones breaking. “You put up with two needy teenagers when you didn’t have to. And you sure as hell didn’t have to take us in and defend us to a few other packs for not being alphas.” “I wouldn’t change a thing except maybe how hard Kiera hugs.” He teased lightening the mood. He pretended to struggle trying to get away from me causing us to loosen our arms while cracking up. “Hey, what about me?” Trey asked in mock anger. “Treating me like I am chopped liver over here.” I looked around the Alpha at Kymbre before we both ran at Trey and tackled him to the couch. Kymbre and I kissed all over his face with him acting like he was disgusted. We saw him like our uncle and he knew it. He just needed attention. “Get off me, Wierdos. I don’t need any girl cooties on me!” He ordered pushing us onto the floor. He wiped his face off with his sleeve before glaring at us. “Who licked me?” Kymbre looked shocked and looked over at me. I couldn’t even hide that I did it. I just busted out laughing and everyone joined in. The smile on Kymbre’s face was worth Trey beating my ass at training tomorrow. “I am going to miss this. Thank you, guys, for making my heart happy again,” Kymbre stammered as she climbed back onto her bed. “I will miss all of you. I hope a pack takes me in, Argus, but if not I will head to the human world for a bit.” "f**k that!" I growled my wolf knowing if they went to the human world it would hurt her physically and mentally. "If no one lets you join we will start our own pack taking in strong, independent women like us." "Of course you would." Trey groaned shaking his head. Argus stood beside her and smiled down at her. “Any pack would love to have you. Do you just want to visit for some time or switch packs? I would hate to lose such a great pack member and a family member, but you need to do what is best for you.” She looked at me with concern before I even realized I had tears going down my face. I looked away from her and wiped my face. Quit being selfish, Kiera. How ever your sister heals is the path you need to trust. “Kiera?” She sounded worried. I turned back around with a big smile and a nod. “You do whatever you need to do to heal. I would hate for you to be gone forever but no matter where you go Ill be with you in spirit and love. Eventually, maybe even physically. Just focus on getting back to a healthy you.” My wolf was whining but there was nothing I could do to keep the hurt away. She smiled but I knew it was fake. She pulled her knees to her chest and let out a whimper. I sat down in the seat beside the bed even though my wolf was fighting to get to her. She needed to make up her mind without feeling like we were pressuring her. “I…I…just for a bit for now. I don’t know how long and if it will even help but I need to be somewhere new that isn’t tainted…bbb..” She gulped before finishing. “By Bert and his wife. I want to go soon but not before I see his punishment. I need to see that.” “Gladly...” I growled out squeezing the arms of the chair hard enough I felt splinters digging into my hands. Trey snorted before covering his mouth. Argus glared at him before me. His face turned back to a smile when he looked at my sister. “We will be finishing up the decision of his punishment this evening and in two days’ time it will be done. I will head to my office and call some of the packs I trust with you. A few have amazing chefs and you would learn so much from them.” She smiled and hugged him before he turned and left. Trey followed suit with a huge hug and a joke before following Argus out. Now it was just her and I, which was normal but I felt awkward. I didn’t know what to do or say when all I wanted to do was lock her in her room for the rest of her life. “Quit it and come cuddle. I bet we could find a show on tv to make fun of,” Kymbre commanded patting the empty space beside her. Well, since she said so.
