Chapter Seventeen

1249 Words
Katherine looked pathetically at the girl. She felt sorry for ever mistreating after all she has gone through. Just two weeks ago she hated Cecile’s guts, but now she came to understand that her assumptions were wrong.   The first time she met Cecile, Katherine tagged her as one of the girls seeking her younger brother’s attention. And she was more pissed with the fact that she successfully had a spot in the mansion and to make matters worse she holds a book that once belonged to her mother.   Katherine had no other choice than to hate her with so much cruelty and match her up with Lady Evelyn as a two faced b***h.   The w***e, Evelyn, was someone she could not forget. She could still remember like it was yesterday when Evelyn first arrived at the mansion as a slave. A poverty stricken vampire, who was pitied by her mother and was taken in by her mother to work in the mansion as a slave to take care of her family.   Unknown to her mother Evelyn had better plans. Before anyone could find out, Evelyn became a head slave by seducing and sleeping with her father and the next thing she was his first concubine.   And that hit the nail. After that my mom and father always argued every day, she accused him of trying to replace her with a maid and not caring about her feelings a bit. Her mother cried to sleep every night and slept beside her and her brother almost every day.   A few years later her mother died by a stake in the heart. Her mother’s funeral was huge and word spread around of her death but her father never attended the ceremony and he didn’t bother investigating her death.   Instead he started to spread lies that her mother was suicidal ever since she gave birth to Haden and I.   And now she could see Cecile in a new light, she lost her mother at birth and never knew her father till he died and her adopted parents kept these secrets from her and pretended to be her biological parent.   Katherine wiped a tear from her spotless skin. She looked at the time and back at Cecile and sighed. Haden and the others would be here soon. She thought in silence and looked at Cecile again, watching for any sign she has regained her consciousness.   Nothing changed and she prepared to leave the room to wait for the others outside. But as she got to the door she paused, and went back to Cecile’s bed. For a second she thought she was going insane, but then again she noticed Cecile was glowing.   The sunlight peeked from the windows beside the bed and created an eerie glow on her figure. Katherine gasped, it was only vampires that could glow like that and she had totally forgotten Cecile was supposed to be human and not a vampire.   Immediately, Katherine rushed out of the room and ran down to her room to pick up her cell phone to call Haden and tell him the news. But instead of  him to pick at the first call his phone kept ringing until it cut off and she tried it again four times but it kept ringing and she growled in frustration.   She wondered what she could do and went back to Cecile’s room to wait for the idiots to return.   Three hours later, two cars drove in and parked in front of the cabin with Athan and Asher stepping out of the grey SUV and Haden stepped out of a deep blue challenger with a short pot-bellied man behind him.   I rushed to meet them and spat at them in anger for refusing to pick my calls, accusing them that I could have been in danger and needed their help. But instead they replied with a scoff, saying that I could protect myself just fine without their help.  I almost smirked in pride but I slapped them at the back of the head instead.    “Anyways, I was calling you idiots because Cecile was glowing in her unconscious state. And from common knowledge its only vampires who could glow in sunlight like that.” I looked at the yet man behind Haden and smiled.   “Doc. Stukkins. It’s been long!” I walked up to the man who smiled warmly and adjusted his glasses to shake my hands.   He was one of the few humans who knew of our existence and he was willing to help us anytime we needed it after we helped his sick son.    “It’s nice to see you again Miss Katherine- oh I’m sorry I just heard you’re married from Haden on our way.” He blushed in embarrassment and I smiled warmly at the man.   “Let’s check up on Cecile inside.” She turned to lead the men inside.     *****   I woke up with my whole body aching painfully, and I groaned as my bones protested against my movements. Sweat still dripped from my skin and I gasped uncomfortably at the sudden heat.   With so much strength I pushed the thick duvet off me and sat up on the bed, looking around me for any sign that someone is in the cabin.   But all I could hear was the faint sound of voices outside and I sighed in relief. For a second I thought they had abandoned me here alone, and that would have been a nightmare.   I tried standing up to meet them outside but my legs refused to cooperate and I groaned instead when I landed on my rear end. Just as luck would have it the door to my room twisted open and Katherine’s figure walked in through the door, with Athan, Haden, Asher and a man with glasses following behind.   Everyone gasped except Katherine, when they saw me sitting on the floor. I flushed with embarrassment when they stared at me with disbelief and Katherine rolled her eyes and helped me up when the men were still staring at me.   “That’s impossible; she must have eaten something somewhere to make her glow like that!” Asher whispered in shock.   The short man walked closer to me and inspected my face like I was an expensive piece of ancient artifact. He tilted my head left and right, humming and nodding his head when he made a discovery unknown to us.   He dropped his briefcase that I didn’t notice and opened the box revealing some medical kit. With a stethoscope in his hands he checked my heart beat, and opened my eyes and blinded me with a small flash light for a few seconds, flicking them every second.  After a little bit of medical checks, he drew out my blood with a syringe and kept it in his briefcase.   “According to my checks I’ve noticed she’s in her first stage of conversion. Although it unusual to convert without a vampire bite in which I did not see, so I’ve decided to take a sample of her blood to run some scans on them as soon as I get back to the hospital, Because I am very sure that she has been injected with vampire venom, and that is the cause of her seizures.”
