Chapter 1; A beautiful dream
………Charlotte…….
My ankles hurt as I walked through the flower gardens of the different colors of the roses. It was a rare beautiful garden I could say.
My lips slightly grinned but stopped halfway as my eyebrows frowned. Why were my ankles hurting? For the first time in three years, I was happy but my dream had begun shattering.
The warm weather was now turning into a cloudy one with a strong wind that made my body shiver. I quickly sat up from the cold floor, it was now that I had realized it was a dream. I had fallen asleep on the cold floor further away from my bedding in the corner of the dark room. I had moved further away from the chains that were tied on the pole near my bedding, that is why my feet hurt so badly even after I woke up.
I moved to the other side where the torn bedding had been laid and covered up myself with another blanket to catch some warmth even though it wasn't that much. I don't know how long it had been while I was in here but all I could recall is that it had already been three years since I was locked up in this basement. That was when I stopped counting.
A tray was suddenly pushed under the metal door on the tray and I hurriedly moved to where it was grabbing the bowl of food and a glass of water from it.
At first, when I had just been brought in, I had refused to eat but I nearly died from starvation. No one cared. Not even my mate Kyle Moxom. How could he even care after locking me up for all these years so he couldn't weaken as he continued to enjoy his married life?
Like I said I didn't know how long it had been since Kyle locked me up in this hell hole, but it was more than three years as far as I could recall. I had been the star of New York, a renowned artist. Everyone knew me in all the corners of the world.
No one knew my secret by though, I was a wolf, and since humanity had taken over a lot of parts of the world. I could only remain discreet, only me and my family knew about me.
When I got my wolf, I never expected to find my mate but a man approached me one day and I quickly picked up his scent. He was my mate Kyle. Not only was he the successful owner of the Moxom group but he was also handsome.
He seemed to have been happy to see me and we started the mating process. I thought we were going to get legally married but he asked me to give him some time.
That is when I found out that he was married already to the state minister's daughter Jenna. I confronted him but the next thing I knew I was locked up in one of the rooms for days in their villa and when I tried to escape. That's when I was thrown into the basement.
Whenever Kyle and Jenna made out, my wolf howled in pain. Each day and night I could hear sounds from upstairs of their moans as their bedroom was above me. The pain went on and on and it reached a time when my body was tired, my soul exhausted and my wolf hid from me. My once-thick body was now thin and numb to the pain.
Finishing up all the food and drinking the remaining drops of water from the glass, I pushed the tray aside. I could tell it was daytime now through the light rays that shone through the small ventilator, I could only think about how I was going to spend the next hours, singing or overthinking.
The necklace I was wearing shone brightly illuminating the dark basement. Whenever I was in pain, the necklace shone. I now recall how I got this necklace. Even after all these years, it had not faded a bit.
One time after my performance at the Calibre Foundation in New York, a young boy hurriedly ran to me and handed me a small red box then pointed where it had come from. I could tell it was a man that had gifted me but I could only see his back because he was leaving.
I normally didn't accept random gifts but the boy that handed it to me was so cute. Back at home when I opened the box, it had a note in it.
......Whenever you are in trouble, press on the necklace, and I will come to find you Charlotte!....
I smiled as I threw away the note.
“How could he save me?” I giggled.
Now that I looked at the necklace illuminating, I held onto it with my hand and heard a click. I had pressed it. Why didn't I think about this after all these years? I had thought the note was a joke.
Was someone going to save me? I didn't want to get my hopes up only to be disappointed later. I had to wait and see.
I drifted off to sleep while staring at the metal door for anyone who would show up to save me only to wake up in disappointment. There was no sign of anyone.
Tears rolled down my eyes once again regretting why I had put my hopes up.
“Ahhh!!” I screamed as I stood off the bedding.
Why was I the unlucky one? I wondered if anyone ever came looking for me when I disappeared. My family was middle class and they couldn't manage Kyle Moxom.
I plucked the necklace away from my neck breathlessly and threw it to the wall. It was shiny glass but it never broke.
Now that I had been here for too long, I might have started hallucinating thinking that a necklace could save me.
“How could I have been so stupid?” I giggled at myself sillyly.
Food was brought to the door but this time around I was fed up. I wanted to get out of here. I quickly ran towards the door hitting it.
“Get me out of here!” I shouted. It had taken time since I last shouted. I had obediently just sat there and waited to be cleaned up whenever Kyle wanted to mate with me so he couldn't weaken but I was fed up this time around.
I threw the plate of food they had just handed me to the ground while screaming.
“Get me out of here!”
I had used a lot of strength and I just lay on the ground for the next few minutes as no one came to my rescue. Three days in a row, they brought in food but I would just stare at it. I had given up. Why did I have to leave like this?
The maids walked in on the third day only to find me lying on the ground. Whenever I saw them, I knew that it was time to mate with Kyle Moxom and they were here to clean me up.
The basement had two sides, the one I spent the night on and the other cleaner one with a bed. I could only go to the other side when Kyle came.
I was carried from the ground as I had no strength to move anymore.
“Are you giving up?” Olivia one of the maids that had been friendly to me asked but I had no strength to reply and she could only look at me with pity.
In this state that I was in if Kyle dared mate with me, I don't think I could survive. But what was I saving my life for, him? I would rather die.
After being cleaned up, Oliver walked me to the other room and I patiently waited laying on the bed. Today was my last day on earth I could tell as I didn't have even the slightest energy to sit up.
The door opened after a few minutes and the tall figure appeared in the doorway. I quickly turned away my trembling body in pain.
My whole body was wasted and only had a little meat to my bones. I wonder where he got the moral from to mate me when I looked like this. No other man would dare, I looked like I was suffering from a chronic disease.
Whenever he was done f**king me, it took me days before I could speak again.
His scent hit me but I could now tell that it wasn't Kyle who had just walked in. I turned around to check who it was.
I couldn't recognize him from the distance but his face got more clearer as he moved closer to me. It was Kyle's royal dog, Trinity.
He hadn't changed a bit and was as cold as he used to be. Whatever reason he was here for, it had to be important. I had last him the day he, Kyle, and Jenna dragged me inside this hell hole.
He moved closer to where I was with an envelope in his hands but I moved further on the other side of the bed. I didn't know for some reason why I trembled and was so afraid of him even though it was clear he wasn't going to touch me.
He halted in his steps seeing how uncomfortable he had made me.
"Wha..what brings you here?" I spoke almost in a whisper. My stomach was already burning up from not having any meals.
“Mrs. Charlotte! I have some good news for you," Trinity spoke, he paused but with my sharp gaze, he quickly continued. "Mr. Maxom wants to let you go. But only on one condition.”
What? let me go! My mind questioned. Was my mind playing games on me again or was Trinity playing a joke on me? Kyle would never let me go. I looked at Trinity astonished as he pulled out some documents from an envelope he had just walked in with.
That is when it hit me, it wasn't a joke. I wondered what the condition was. It must have been a big one to let his mate go.
