A Decision Made In A Haste
"I have told you Ms Davis, you need to come up with the money real quick to save your father. There is nothing I can do." The doctor said while taking his file from the counter and heading outside.
Harper stood there as she stared at her father lying helpless on the hospital bed. She didn't know what else to do. The Davis company owned by her father was really in a huge loss and no one to turn to.
Meanwhile her step mother Charlotte Davis was really making life a living hell for Harper. Harper just has to find the money as soon as possible. She picked up her bag from the bed and left the hospital room then took her cell phone to call her boyfriend, Mason, because she feels that he is going to help her. After all, he is really doing well for himself.
However, Mason's familiar ringtone blared from a room so close to Harper's dad's room and she was surprised because Mason didn't tell her that he would be in hospital that same day.
Harper was still doubting herself when she heard her sister's voice, "Won't you pick up your call? Harper has been calling you. What if something is urgent."
"Who cares about that b***h, you shouldn't be talking about her now that you are carrying my child. She has never for once allowed me to touch her, she keeps telling me that she is not ready. I can't keep waiting for her until she eventually gets ready which I'm sure she won't but you Aria, Oh..my.. I just can't get you off my mind. Just six months we started dating and now you are pregnant for me."
"You are so bad, Mason."
Harper felt like the ground should open and swallow her after hearing all that. She felt heart broken and didn't know when tears began to fall from her eyes. Her head was turning and whatever hope she had concerning her father's illness, scattered immediately.
Her boyfriend who always adorns her and tells her how much he loves her ends up cheating on her with her own sister.
Harper's phone rang immediately and she picked it thinking it was the doctor calling only to her the voice of Charlotte Davis shouting over the phone, "I can see that you have decided to do nothing concerning your father's treatment, as for me I'm no longer going to be treating him with my own money. So I think him dying is the best thing for everyone." She said and immediately hung up the call.
Instead of wallowing in tears, Harper decided to take up Grandma Judy's offer. Harper had saved her months back in a supermarket and came to know that she was trying to marry off her grandson, Caleb Wilson who doesn't care about relationships but instead drowns himself in work.
Harper picked up the card that Grandma Judy had given her and then called her.
Forty minutes later Harper came down from the bus and heard a familiar voice behind her.
"Harper,"
She turned and saw Grandma Judy.
"Grandma Judy,"
She quickly ran and engulfed her in a big hug but got to know that she wasn't standing alone. Harper was met with a tall stranger standing next to her which eventually would be Caleb Wilson, her husband to be.
At a closer distance, Harper couldn't help but kept staring at Caleb Wilson. She had heard that he had a mean face but from what she's seeing he doesn't have any at all.
According to Grandma Judy, Caleb is her eldest grandson and he only works himself out without having a life on his own. Harper knows that Caleb has his own business and his cousins also help out in supporting the business.
Now that she has met him, she got to know that he is very attractive but gives this 'I don't know care' attitude. Harper is very sure that Caleb agrees to this just because he was forced to by his Nana.
Harper looks behind them and notices a red MPV, from the logo it was really giving a normal lifestyle, she sees that the difference between Caleb and her is not much. According to Grandma Judy, she assured Harper that her grandson will assist in her father's treatment.
"Harper, right here with me is my first grandson Caleb. He is thirty two years old and can't even get a wife to settle down with. You have saved me two months ago and ever since then I have developed a liking for you. So you don't need to worry because I won't recommend a bad person to you."
Taking in his Nana's description, Caleb looked at Harper from head to toe, feeling irritated by the whole arrangement, but kept quiet without saying a word.
Grandma Judy has five grandsons without a single granddaughter and she has single handedly given out two of her grandsons in marriage to different noble families and now Caleb can't be left behind.
Harper looked up at Caleb and smiled, as she stretched her hands towards him, "Hello, Mr Wilson, I'm Harper Davis. It's so nice to see you."
Caleb stared at Harper's hand, refusing to shake her. He was immediately hit a little by his Nana and he quickly returned the hand shake with an icy tone, "I'm Caleb."
After the handshake, Caleb received a call immediately, after the phone call he turned to Harper saying, "I have a meeting in the next thirty minutes, let's get this done with immediately. I do not want to be late for my meeting."
Harper just nodded in silence, not knowing what else to say.
Grandma Judy leaned into Harper's ear, "I'm so happy you are finally going to be my daughter in-law." Harper couldn't help but smiled at what she said and Caleb rolled his eyes, not wanting to be interested in their conversation.
"Nana, come on let me get you into the car, the weather is not good for your body."
Caleb said as he helped his Grandma into the car.
Harper realized that Caleb would do anything for his Nana and that's why he is going ahead with this right now. Grandma Judy had made it clear to Harper that she would leave her house and move in with them to avoid getting ill treatment from her step mother.
"Shall we," Caleb said as he returned to Harper's side and started walking ahead of her.
He didn't even bother giving her a chance to respond.
They arrived at the registry and Caleb turned to face Harper, "Ms Davis, you are aware that no one is forcing you into this and you are free to actually change your mind. My Nana must have talked you into this but this is your chance to do what you want now. You might think I am calm but I'm not. Marriage is a huge commitment and just so you know I don't like children."
Caleb thinks that Harper had second thoughts and if she doesn't she would want to cancel the whole arrangement just hearing that he doesn't want children. But he was wrong.
"I want this, Mr Wilson.”
